Bridging The Gap Between Performing And Owning: A Comparison Of Athletes And Business Owners

Bridging The Gap Between Performing And Owning: A Comparison Of Athletes And Business Owners

Michael McGovern discusses the differences between being an employee, an athlete, a business owner, and a coach. Michael speaks from personal experience as he grew up playing hockey on a higher level. He explains how the time, effort, and hard work put into any of these positions is comparable. Michael believes that everything happens for a reason and that his hockey career didn’t work out as planned, leading him to his current career and success. He encourages listeners to keep going and to not give up, and to pay attention to the details. He also emphasizes the importance of having the “sauce” and how it’s necessary to be successful.
Michael discusses how the skills he gained from playing hockey carried over into business, but he notes that not everyone is cut out to be an owner of a business. They have to figure out what they're best at and then focus on that. He cautions that someone can be a great player but not an effective coach. He uses the example of a legendary hockey player going into coaching and having only mediocre success. He encourages people to try things and explore their passions in order to find out what they are truly capable of.
Michael begins by discussing the idea that a person can be a great athlete, but not a great leader. A key part of being a leader is being able to teach and explain things, as well as understanding what motivates people. It is not enough to be great at a skill, but to also be able to communicate and teach it. The discussion then moves to the idea that many athletes struggle to transition into coaching because they do not have the necessary skills and abilities to teach. This is also true for business owners, who may be great workers, but lack the skills and experience to run a business. It is important to remember that leadership is about leading people, not about showing off.
Starting a business can be a daunting task. It requires more than just knowledge of a trade, but also emotional intelligence and the ability to delegate. Business owners must be prepared to face hard days and the stress of having their pay delayed or not getting paid at all. They must also be mindful of their emotional reactions, as it can cause the entire team to lose faith in them if they show that they are unable to handle the pressure. It is essential that business owners remain composed and demonstrate their accountability if they wish to be successful.

Start A Business With No Money: Tips For Overcoming The Nine To Five Mindset

Start A Business With No Money: Tips For Overcoming The Nine To Five Mindset

Michael discusses the possibility of starting a business with no money. He talks about the various ideas people may have seen on social media, such as pyramid schemes or wholesaling real estate. Michael himself got his start in real estate by wholesaling and is thankful for the momentum it gave him. He encourages his listeners to explore different options for starting a business with no money, such as those they may have seen on social media. He hopes that his advice will help others make their dreams come true.
Michael explains that you cannot make money without spending money. Even if you invest sweat hours, you will still have to spend money on renting a space, buying materials, and other resources. Michael also warns against courses that promise to teach you how to make money with no money, as these courses require money to be purchased in the first place. In order to make money, you must invest money and time, as time is money. Without spending money, it is not possible to get into business and make money.
Michael is urging potential business owners to invest in something that could change their life, as knowledge and time are not free. People must have an ironclad mindset and be willing to put everything they have into their investment. If they are not willing to go bankrupt to start a business, they should quit. Money is necessary to invest in real estate and other investment vehicles, and the speaker suggests building relationships and learning how to leverage money in order to start a business without using one's own money. They must also be willing to learn the business and invest in education, as people won't invest in someone who has not failed at it themselves. Finally, they must be willing to put in time and energy into something that is not guaranteed, as that is the only way to reach the next level.

Performance Coach Turning Painful Experiences Into Proven Success: Interview With Tim Adams

Performance Coach Turning Painful Experiences Into Proven Success: Interview With Tim Adams

Michael McGovern and Tim Adams have a conversation about Tim's business and coaching experience. Tim has been a coach for over 30 years and has clocked in over 43,000 hours of one-on-one coaching with some of the best in the world. He is getting ready to launch his new program, Game Above the Game, and is excited to talk about it. Tim expresses how he has been a 'best kept secret' as a coach, and Michael is excited to have him on the Reckless CEO Podcast. They discuss how being a coach wasn't always 'cool' and how Tim's experience and knowledge is invaluable to those he works with.

Michael and Tim  discuss Tim's journey to becoming a performance coach. Tim began his career by playing football for the Air Force Academy, but he was cut from the team when he tore his knee. He then asked the strength coach if he could be a student coach and started his path to becoming a performance coach. He went on to get a Master's in exercise science, and traveled the world to study under the best coaches, physiologists, and researchers. He was in the Air Force for 13 years, and also coached at the academy.  Michael reflects on his own story of how he lost his identity when he stopped playing hockey and fell into the plant life. Both Michael and Tim reflect back in the conversation about finding themselves in the things that they lost.

Tim Adams was in the military for eight years before taking a job as a strength and conditioning coach at the Air Force Academy. He was also an adjunct business instructor and taught physical education courses such as unarmed combat, weightlifting, and tennis. He was approved to get a PhD while at the academy, but the military changed their mind and sent him to go buy missiles in La. He loved the university environment as it was like a time machine, where he could be around people the same age as him.

Tim Adams was initially working for the Air Force, but was soon offered a position in LA which he and his wife turned down. He then decided to start his own business and sent resumes to every NFL team without any success. He then realized he knew nothing about speed and learned from Ben Johnson's coach Charlie Francis. He then noticed Obadaily Thompson breaking the world record and wanted to learn from his coach Dan Path. After finally meeting Dan at an all comers track meet, he was invited to Houston to meet Tom Tlez and the rest is history.

Creating A Healthy Relationship With Business Metrics: Lessons From A CEO

Creating A Healthy Relationship With Business Metrics: Lessons From A CEO

In this podcast episode, Michael McGovern discusses the importance of setting goals in business. He explains that having a goal and plan to reach the goal is essential in achieving success. In order to set a goal, one must have an idea of what they are aiming for and have the data to support it. He also mentions the importance of having a healthy relationship with the goal and result. He emphasizes that it is important to create the goal and work backwards to achieve it. Michael reminds listeners that the end goal should be kept in mind while they are on their journey to success.

Michael discusses how pushing too hard for a goal in business can be detrimental. Michael talks about how his own addiction to success has caused him to lose relationships in the past. It is important to not just look at the goal, but also the decisions being made in order to reach it. The Reckless CEO advises to review the relationship with the metric, and to put pieces together in order to support it. He suggests also to make sure that the people, processes, and infrastructure of the business are able to support the goal, otherwise it may not be achievable or it may be broken in the process.

Michael explains why it is important to set realistic goals for a business. They should be just outside of reality so that the team is motivated and challenged but not overwhelmed. If the goal is too big, the team will be intimidated and won't be able to reach it. Michael then shares that he has noticed that their goals are usually only reached to about 80%, because they haven't stretched themselves enough. He then talks about the importance of setting the goal far enough away that it pushes the team and keeps them motivated. Finally, he talks about how to handle the situation when the team isn't on track to reach the goal, and how it can put the leader in an uncomfortable position.

Michael McGovern is a leader with a big personality who has to be careful not to overstep when empowering new leaders. Last week, Michael struggled to get the business to hit their numbers and realized that it was a collective effort from everyone to be on the same page. As the owner, Michael set the number to be achieved and it is now up to the departments and individuals to work together for the same goal. This requires everyone to be on the same page and working together to achieve the desired result.

Manifesting Success: Learning To Make Dreams Reality With Zeke O'Connell

Manifesting Success: Learning To Make Dreams Reality With Zeke O'Connell

Michael and Zeke are discussing the power of manifestation. Zeke has experienced a lot of change in the past three months, and he believes manifestation has played a big part in it. Manifestation is an easy concept to understand, but the power behind it is often unrecognized until one looks back and sees how much they have achieved. Michael and Zeke emphasize that nothing in life can come to fruition unless it is first conceived in the mind. They also discuss how each person has the power to manifest their own destiny, no matter how difficult the situation may be.

Michael focuses on the idea of ‘seeing it, believing it, feeling it, and achieving it’ as a way of achieving success. To illustrate this process, the conversation uses the example of wanting to own a Lamborghini. The speakers suggest that in order to achieve this goal, one must first ‘see’ it and start to believe in oneself. They suggest that one then puts oneself in the situation of having it, and start to ‘feel’ what it would be like to have it. By creating a memory of the future, one can tie an emotion to the goal and start to achieve it.

Michael talks about how believing in yourself and manifesting the things you want in life can help you to achieve them. They cite the example of a Lamborghini they saw, which the listener wanted to buy, to illustrate how the power of positive thinking can work. They also discuss how consuming positive and uplifting media can contribute to this, and how being in a negative mindset can lead to a reality of negativity. Ultimately, they emphasize the importance of believing in yourself and manifesting positive thoughts in order to create the reality you want.

Michael and Zeke shift their focus onto the idea that people often become aware of things when they become relevant to them or when they become threatened. They discuss how a man, for example, might become aware of a woman liking another man's pictures on social media and become jealous or threatened. This can lead to him bringing that person up in conversations and even manifesting them in his own life. They also discuss how this same phenomenon can happen with other things such as noticing more red cars after a family member buys one. This phenomenon is referred to as the activating system.

Entrepreneur Jacob Emery Talks Business, Fitness And Achieving The Impossible

Entrepreneur Jacob Emery Talks Business, Fitness And Achieving The Impossible

Michael McGovern welcomed Jacob Emery to the Reckless CEO podcast, where the two discussed business acumen and the journey of entrepreneurship. Jacob, a business owner and fitness fanatic based in Columbus, Ohio, shared his story of going straight to work out of high school, having been given a job opportunity by a close mentor. They discussed the relationship between business and fitness, and how they collaborate well together. Jacob had worked in the pipeline world and shared his story of success, inspiring and motivating listeners.

Jacob talked about his journey to buying a company by the time he was 30. He had been traveling the state of Ohio for 8 years and decided to try and buy the company. He credits his belief in himself and his mentor, Corey Gregory, for inspiring him to do it. He remembers the two of them talking in the gym one day, when Corey asked him what he was doing with his life. Jacob then decided to take on the challenge of buying the company and, sure enough, he achieved it.

Jacob talks about how his relationship with fitness began when a friend suggested he get into the fitness space. Jacob was unemployed and broke at the time, so his friend's suggestion inspired him to turn his life around and set a goal to buy a company by the time he was 30. He explains that buying a company is not as difficult as people may think, as long as you have financials to support an SBA loan and partners to help. With that motivation, Jacob was determined to make his goal a reality.

In the conversation, Jacob discusses the concept of the Art of the Deal and how it allowed them to purchase a business with a net worth of just $37,000. They discuss the concept of leverage and how it can create a win-win situation for both parties. They also discuss the importance of resilience and power through the difficult moments. Jacob then outlines what their company does, which is infrastructure work in the natural gas distribution world. They also do work in the waterline pipeline, underground electric world, and communication side such as fiber optics. Lastly, they discuss the importance of helping these old school industries evolve into the new age.

Michael Llausas is back and better than ever! The Reckless CEO, Michael McGovern, discusses the topic of "efficiency." How can you work less and make more? What kind of system and processes can you implement to slow the everyday grind? What is causing you to put in long hours but still make the same amount? Self Care

    Self Care

Self–care is what we deliberately do to take care of our physical, emotional, mental, and even spiritual, health.

What are your Self-care practices and how often do you practice them?  Have you heard of community care?  I came across this while doing more research on self-care, is this something that is already being practiced?  Could it be something new to incorporate?

Community care is an action or actions taken that are intended to help another person or group of people. This kind of care consists of interpersonal acts of kindness and compassion like reaching out to a friend to see how they are, sending gratitude messages to co-workers, or even larger scale acts like protesting to better the lives of others.
