#exorcism

After Jesus' Transfiguration, He comes down from the mountain to find His disciples arguing with teachers of the Law and others. When Jesus inquires about the cause of the argument, a man tells Jesus that the disciples were unable to exorcise a demon from his son. When the disciples ask Jesus why they couldn't cleanse the boy from the demon, Jesus' very puzzling answer is, "This kind of demon can only come out by prayer." Join us as we delve into this head-scratching passage!

In this episode we look at an odd event that is recounted in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Jesus comes across a demoniac (a man possessed by demons). In fact, he (and another man) are possessed by so many demons, the demons call themselves "Legion." Upon Jesus' arrival, the demons beg Jesus not to send them into the Abyss, but instead to let them go into a large herd of pigs nearby. Jesus gives them permission, and they immediately drown the pigs. The townspeople instead of rejoicing that the suffering man is not free from demon possession, or that they just witnessed a miracle, beg Jesus to leave their town.

Why does Jesus allow the demons to go into the pigs? Why do the demons kill the pigs? Why do the townspeople want Jesus to leave? Is demon possession possible today? Why is this passage in the Bible? Tune in for answers!
