Unveiling the Limitations and Controversies: Exploring the Dark Side of AI Technology

Unveiling the Limitations and Controversies: Exploring the Dark Side of AI Technology
Good morning from OWITH.ai: the podcast that gives you only what's important to hear in the AI and tech world. Today, we'll be discussing some of the limitations and flaws of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. One major issue with AI systems is the presence of biases. These biases often lead to false assumptions about certain groups and misidentification of people of color in facial recognition. It's important to note that these biases reflect the biases prevalent in society, as AI models are only as good as the data they are fed, and society's data is far from perfect.Another concerning aspect of AI technology is the proliferation of AI-powered sex chatbots. These chatbots, based on an open-source AI model called Llama 2, are being used to create text-based simulations of sexual exploitation of minors. The fact that the AI model is open source raises challenges regarding control and ethical concerns in the use of AI technology.Looking at some recent news, Apple's iPhone sales in China have fallen over 30% year over year during the first week of 2024. This has caused a downgrade in stock and loss of market value for Apple. Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson has also announced that he will step down as CEO. Additionally, Nvidia plans to produce a new AI chip specifically for China to comply with export rules. In other news, The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that millions of articles from the newspaper were used to train AI models, which now compete with The Times as a source of information. This case raises questions about the use of copyrighted content in AI models and their resulting outputs.Moving on, the annual disruption index by consulting firm AlixPartners has dropped from a peak of 79 in 2022 to 72 in 2024, according to a survey of global executives. CEOs remain concerned about disruption, with worries about executive teams lacking agility, employee resistance to change, and companies not adapting fast enough.Lastly, the field of robotics is advancing alongside generative AI. Google DeepMind has released papers on advanced robotics, showcasing robots that can make faster decisions and better understand their environments. Stanford's Mobile Aloha robot has also made impressive strides, demonstrating the potential for household robots at an affordable cost. The combination of generative AI and robotics holds promise for creating robots that can anticipate and fulfill human needs. That's all for today's episode. Stay tuned for more updates on AI and tech news.

Jimmy Yeary: The Impact of Authenticity and Vulnerability in Storytelling, Music, and Beyond

Storytelling is the all powerful tool for communication, persuasion, and inspiration.

It is a tried and true way of expressing our authentic selves and connecting with others on a deeper level.

In this episode, Jamie Hopkins, Managing Partner of Wealth Solutions, and Ana Trujillo Limón, Director, Coaching and Advisor Content, speak with Jimmy Yeary, Presenter, Songwriter, and Speaker.

They explore Jimmy's journey, the power of vulnerability in storytelling, and the importance of imperfections in connecting with others. They also touch on the magic of storytelling in creating connections and influencing perceptions and the freedom that comes with being authentic.

    Jimmy discusses:

    • His first money memory and how it influenced his passion for music
    • The importance of vulnerability in creating connections
    • The importance of sharing personal stories to create connections and inspire others
    • The significance of leaders being imperfect and vulnerable to create trust and connection with their team

    About our Guest:

Jimmy Yeary is the rarest of speakers. Because his content is filled with instantly recognizable moments, audiences are quickly taken to a high level of energy. For well over a decade, he has influenced millions of people--how they think and what they think about on a daily basis. Jimmy Yeary is not only a highly sought-after speaker, he is a hugely successful songwriter and his music is all around you.

Jimmy Yeary was writing songs long before becoming the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning supergroup SHENANDOAH. These were years that saw Jimmy performing #1 hits like Mama Knows, Somewhere In the Vicinity of the Heart, and Sunday in the South.

Today, in Nashville and Los Angeles, one of the most common calls in the music industry is from an artist's representative to Sony Publishing requesting availability on songs from Jimmy Yeary's catalog of music.

It's not surprising. Jimmy has written more than two thousand songs, many of which have been featured on albums selling millions of copies--Grammy winners, and gold and platinum awards among them. 14 of Jimmy's songs have been certified "Number 1" hits as singles by Billboard Magazine.

    Flaws And All

    Flaws And All

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 3:23

It's okay not to be perfect because no one is! Everyone has flaws . Don't strive for perfection to be loved by others. Strive for enhancement so you can be happy with yourself.

I’m so glad, as perfect as our Lord is he does not stray from using us despite our imperfections. Isn’t he wonderful? So, I often wonder why people run away from him when he is trying to use them. It’s really not what he desires and I will go into that and more in this episode. I know you will enjoy this one!

How do we know therapy is working?

How do we know therapy is working?

Sam, Joe and Ali reflect on our experiences in therapy. Sometimes the results seem clear – other times they’re hard to see. All agree it’s important to compare your progress to your past self, not some idealised perfect self.

We discuss people who don’t think they need therapy. Ali mentions people who “prefer to work things out themselves”.

Sam discusses the frustration of the session ending after 50 minutes – Joe says he wants an 8 hour MDMA therapy session – Sam wants to get on the ketamine.

Parents get a light going over. Sam discusses a breakthrough around his time in Hare Krishna boarding school. Things can’t be fully resolved, but they can be carried more lightly.

Does Bill Burr think therapy is bullshit, or does he do it? (We think so)

Ali discusses sharing her darkest secrets with Joe and the trust involved in the that.

We discuss psychiatrists vs psychologists and where bipolar comes from. Joe says he can intellectualise feelings but struggles to actually feel feelings.

Ali says three years is the sweet spot for how long therapy should take to work.

Sam reckons more like 10 years for him and talks about being exasperating.

We conclude with a discussion of the psychoanalytic method and why we always end up back in childhood.

    Her Story:
..the one that brought me to therapeutic work, began when I was in my mid-twenties and had my own first experience with a therapist.

At the time my love life wasn’t living up to my hopes and I wanted a better understanding of what was getting in the way.

Some thirty-odd years ago now, going to therapy was something I felt a lot of shame about. I felt flawed, broken, and didn’t want to share those parts of myself with someone else, but finding the courage to reach out to my therapist led to more sharing than I ever expected.

We met for traditional one-on-one therapy, but soon she was encouraging me to participate in group therapy. I’ll admit that I questioned group, but tried it because I trusted her, and through it found answers and a new path.

That experience with group therapy changed my life so significantly that not only did I meet and marry my husband during that time, I also made the decision to leave my career as a graphic designer and become a therapist myself, getting a Master’s in Social Work from NYU, and dedicating my life to helping others lead lives that they truly love.

During my nearly three decades as a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist and coach I have run hundreds of groups, and continue to find therapeutic groups to be an incredibly powerful way to foster emotional growth.

Although I have extensive experience in outpatient hospital mental health and private practice settings, it’s in the action-focused coaching work that I have seen the most lasting change. I have combined my two most powerful tools—group and coaching work—to create my transformational coaching program,  Activate.

My own life gets lit up by this work, as well as by my 30-year marriage, my two incredible daughters, my adorable dachshund, a crackling fire, a hike in the woods, hanging with friends, and a really good rom-com.
