    Rudolph (1964) & Frosty (1969): A Rankin/Bass Celebration

    Rudolph (1964) & Frosty (1969): A Rankin/Bass Celebration

Ho ho ho and Merry Christmas Old Soul Movie Podcast Family! Today we are celebrating two beloved classics from Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment- a team that brought beloved holiday characters to life predominately throughout the 1960s-1980s. These films have been part of American families' celebration of the seasons for decades and we are excited to pay tribute to their legacy! First, we meet a young buck named Rudolph, whose "nonconformity" brings him on a journey from outcast to foggy-weathered hero. Next, we meet Frosty, a lively man made of snow who must get to the North Pole before he melts away! Pull up a cup of hot cocoa and tune into some holiday cheer as we curl up in nostalgia this Christmas <3

    63 | Vicious Mockery

    63 | Vicious Mockery

This episode we have the honor of being joined actor, playwright, and musician Michael Perrie Jr! Michael brings the boys a bushel of questions including: Is Frosty the snowman or the hat? In dungeons and dragons there are mechanics like Initiative, Action, and Bonus Action. What would some of those be for real life, for your own life, and why? And the very disturbing: 101 Dalmatians. There are 101 of them…how many of them are absolute bastards, how many of them are psychopaths, and how many of them would it actually take to make an adult woman’s coat?

Plus, he brings the boys a special gift segment to close things out!

    The Hill (Part 1)

    Episode 113: We're only halfway?
Geez, when will 2020 end? A lot of frustrations come pouring out in this episode. But we do talk about good things, I swear. Like the Mamba Forever Edition of NBA2k21. Or the Fact that Summer Game Fest is gonna have a week full of playable demos. Crash 4 wont, i repeat wont have micro transactions. We are getting publishing tie ins to the Mandalorian. Beavis and Butthead, and Clone High are coming back. Chicken Run 2 was announced. Micheal Keaton might be back as the Bat. Scott Pilgrim will live on! And much more. Come take a listen.

Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July

Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July

🎄 Rankin/Bass’s Avengers assemble in 1979’s Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July. The studio’s longest holiday special ever opens with the shine on Rudolph’s nose blipping out of existence, and what happens to Frosty and his whole family is worse.

    ****

    🎙 Guest:

Brandon Medley (@brandmed, Blessed Are the Geek, Star Weirdos).

    ****

    💬 Topics & Tangents:

    1. Frosty’s a dad! And Rudolph’s a fake uncle!

    2. King Winterbolt’s genie of the ice scepter, allegedly Thurl Ravenscroft, is the stuff of nightmares.

    3. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus may be the most metal Christmas special, but this is a contender.

    4. Rudolph’s entire story gets retconned into a long play to stop Winterbolt’s foggy Christmas Eve from grounding Santa.

    5. Ethel Merman on The Muppet Show.

    6. Scratcher is a great evil reindeer, but we’d like it better if he was Fireball.

    7. A couple of songs were cut for time from TV, including: Chicken Today, Feathers Tomorrow and I See Rainbows When I Look at You.

    8. Walt Disney World’s Candlelight Processional.

    Frosty the Snowman

    Frosty the Snowman

Happy birthday! Join us as we begin our salute to all holiday specials, but mostly the Christmas ones by attempting to answer questions no one asked about the 1969 Rankin/Bass TV special, Frosty the Snowman.

    ****

    🎙 Guest:

Brandon Medley (@brandmed, Blessed Are the Geek).

    ****

    💬 Topics & Tangents:

    1. How to easily escape a locked greenhouse.

    2. When does something you throw away stop legally being yours?

    3. Oatmeal is a perfectly adorable name for a snowman.

    4. Frosty Day in Armonk, New York.

    5. A closer look at the absurdly long and zigzagged train route to the North Pole.

    6. How long it would actually take to write, “I am very sorry for what I did to Frosty,” a million times.

    7. The stupidest places we’ve ever been dropped off.
