an american tail: one tiny mouse lost in the big apple

We're celebrating the holidays this year starting with Hanukkah as we watch (for the first time) and dissect An American Tail, a Don Bluth & Steven Spielberg collaboration about a little Jewish mouse lost in the big apple that ironically brought the house of mouse back into a renaissance, even though the film itself was made in opposition to Disney...strap in because this one has a bit of everything.

Episode 74: All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) // You Can't Keep a Good Dog Down!

Sorry for the late upload...long holiday weekend.

Don Bluth films have already been covered on this show before (The Land Before Time) but his work is so good we had to do another one.  This time its All Dogs Go to Heaven.  Featuring a star studded cast that includes Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise, this film hits all the right notes.  It has great music, animal abuse and a touching story.  Take a listen as we go over all the dog gone craziness...heh.  Plus much more!!

    Lost Princesses

In this special Showdown episode, Conor and Caroline are continuing their non-Disney cycle with two princess films that dodged a Disney coronation: The Swan Princess and Anastasia. Did the Disney defectors manage to create a film that can compete with the films of the 90s Renaissance or is former animator Richard Rich's adaptation of Swan Lake the next tale as old as time? Let the sweet tones of Liz Callaway take you on a journey to the past to discover if the impact of these films lasts far longer than forever.

YNFA 030: An American Tail, or I’ll Have A Junior Exodus With Cheese

YNFA 030: An American Tail, or I’ll Have A Junior Exodus With Cheese

There are no cats in America! Except for like a dozen who can be easily pushed off a pier. But there are definitely no dogs! At least that’s what we know from Don Bluth’s An American Tail. Is this the biggest bummer of a kids’ movie ever made? Does anyone remember any details about it beyond crying over Somewhere Out There? How in the world does Fievel survive so many near-death experiences? And can you freaking believe they got Christopher Plummer to play a French pigeon?? One thing we do know is that learned a lot of actual historical facts about 19th-century New York during this viewing.
