NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! Setting Achievable Goals

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU! Setting Achievable Goals

The journey of self-improvement is paved with the bricks of thoughtful goal setting, and we're laying out the blueprint for you. We share the impact of looking back to leap forward, setting meaningful objectives, and the importance of involving your partner in your fitness resolutions. From dissecting the fine art of balancing career ambitions with personal relationships to the practicalities of scheduling life's milestones, this episode is a treasure trove of insights on creating a life that resonates with your deepest desires.

And as a symbol of our shared commitment to growth, we're rolling out a bracelet giveaway that's set to make your 2024 intentions shine. Be one of the first five listeners to review us on Apple Podcasts and send us your chosen word for the year, and you'll receive a handcrafted bracelet, a daily reminder of your aspirations. So sync up with us, and let's ride this wave of personal transformation together.

(00:02) Traffic Etiquette and Road Rage

This chapter kicks off the new year with a lively discussion about unexpected events and societal norms, specifically focusing on a recent incident we experienced with a motorcyclist who aggressively closed my car mirror while we were driving in the carpool lane. We question the entitlement of motorcyclists who navigate traffic in ways that other vehicles can't, ponder the fairness of traffic laws that seem to favor them, and consider the broader implications of expecting others to always be aware of your presence. We also touch on the importance of responsible driving and the frustration that arises when someone disregards your space on the road. Join us as we share this personal story and unravel the nuances of road etiquette and safety.

(12:03) Obsession With Music and Crafty Gift-Giving

This chapter kicks off with a rave review of an unexpected piano rendition of Hall & Oates' "Maneater" by the actor who played in "Dear Evan Hansen," leading to an obsession with the song that's taken over our lives and playlists. We also tackle the post-holiday slump and the challenge of packing away decorations, which has been overshadowed by my latest crafting craze. I discuss how my creative spree started with making bracelets and keychains as thoughtful gifts, which quickly turned into a neighborhood-wide endeavor to spread love and joy. Each keychain was personalized to match the neighbor's home color and decor, accompanied by a heartfelt note to ring in the new year with a sense of community and appreciation for our unique neighborhood charm.

(22:18) Reflecting, Setting Goals for Previous Year

This chapter, we reflect on the power of looking back to inform our goals for the new year. I share my personal practice of scrolling through past memories, such as my camera roll, to remember the joys and accomplishments of the year, leading to intentional goal setting for the future. We consider the importance of acknowledging both expected and unexpected achievements, highlighting how reflection can reveal successes we may have overlooked. Additionally, we address the limitations of New Year's resolutions and the preference for setting time-bound goals, emphasizing that while some objectives continue from year to year, it's beneficial to tweak strategies based on past learnings. For instance, I discuss prioritizing fitness and the importance of meal planning to avoid self-sabotage, inspired by insights from a friend's e-book on dieting challenges.

    (32:31) Categories, Goals, and Relationships

This chapter focuses on the significance of categorizing life goals and the impact of goal setting on personal growth and relationships. We examine how health, business, and relationships can serve as distinct categories for setting objectives, and the importance of differentiating between them. The conversation also touches on the personal journey of getting in shape, dealing with external perceptions of weight loss, and the need for mental clarity through exercise. Furthermore, we discuss the role of time management and productivity in achieving goals, as well as the necessity of health and vitality as we age. I highlight the need for including one's partner in health and wellness plans and the small adjustments that can be made for continuous improvement. Finally, we stress the value of setting specific goals for nurturing relationships to prevent them from being neglected amidst personal ambitions.

(44:45) Create New Life, Set Goals

This chapter discusses the idea that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to setting and pursuing life goals. We touch on the differences between how individuals prioritize aspects of their lives, with some needing a multitude of categories to feel fulfilled, while others might focus on just a few. I share insights on how sometimes goals need to be parked for a while and that quitting certain objectives can be positive if it aligns with your current priorities, such as family. We emphasize the importance of intentionality in setting goals and how previous years' experiences inform and prepare us for future endeavors. Moreover, we highlight the practical side of planning, recommending that listeners schedule important personal events and commitments well in advance, ensuring they can create a balanced life where business objectives coexist harmoniously with family time and personal health, ultimately leading to a year one can look forward to with anticipation.

(48:11) The Importance of Setting Clear Goals

This chapter focuses on the significance of setting short-term goals to build the habit of achievement, especially at the start of a new year. I emphasize the importance of having a mission to avoid feelings of frustration and to achieve emotional and mental health. We explore the idea that humans are designed for pursuit and that without it, one might project dissatisfaction onto other areas of their life. Additionally, I discuss the power of clarity in setting goals and how it enables the universe to conspire in one's favor. By getting specific about what you want, whether in finances, relationships, or personal health, you create a pathway for action and change. I encourage listeners to visualize their desired outcomes and take proactive steps to realize them, reinforcing the notion that action shapes mindset and propels us towards our goals.

(55:36) Bracelet Giveaway for 2024 Goal Word

This chapter, we talk about the power of setting an intentional word for the upcoming year and the special giveaway to engage our listeners. I invite you to choose a word that embodies your purpose for 2024, write a quick review on Apple Podcasts, and then DM me your choice along with your address. As a token of appreciation, I'll handcraft a bracelet for the first five listeners who respond, infusing it with love and positive energy, with the hope that it might help make your dreams a reality. Remember to share your word and participate for a chance to receive this heartfelt gift, as we all gear up for a fantastic new year.

I even share my personal journey of dating someone with narcissistic tendencies, demonstrating how these traits can manifest in day-to-day situations.

In addition, we'll explore how their poor sense of humour and the intuitive feeling that something is off can be potential red flags. So, gear up for an enlightening chat that will empower you to navigate relationships with potential narcissists.

[STEP BY STEP] What is the Importance of Consolidating my Technology?

This season on Step by Step, we are asking what does “seamless” mean to my eCommerce business and how do I demystify that in a way that helps me select the right solutions and softwares that make a seamless experience come to life? Join us as we hear from Michael Chen, Director of eCommerce Operations at Sugarfina, to break down the term “single handshake” and look more closely at consolidation of operations in your eCommerce business. In this episode:

    • {0:08:20} - “From the backend side, there are a lot of softwares we have to use to eliminate all the friction points from the time {consumers} find the website and go on the website to check out and pay. That should be really, really smooth.” - Michael
    • {0:14:32} - “Right now everything is in Magento. We have Adobe Live Search, we have Product Recommendations, and everything is working in one place. So I don't have to go to different places, which save a lot of time and headache.” - Michael
    • {0:16:01} - “Saving money is an important thing, but I would look at it as is the software actually better. If you're going to consolidate, is it actually better for the business? There are a lot of factors, so I wouldn't say saving money is the most important thing. There's a lot of research you have to do.” - Michael
    • {0:18:32} - “To extract the most amount of value from any piece of software requires an intimate understanding and time spent in using the software, and the hard things become easy over time. So you grow into these capabilities. You don't just turn it on on day one.” - Phillip
    • {0:23:51} - “You have to be focused on forward progress and continual improvement because your competitors are, and if they're doing it, you have to be more efficient and more optimized.” - Michael
