The Gentlemen: conflict and a detour

The Gentlemen: conflict and a detour

Sometimes the best way to understand a concept is to have a simple, but clear, example. In this episode, Melanie explains why The Gentlemen is such a great example of conflict, especially external conflict. This film isn't such a great example of cast design though, so this week Valerie takes a detour and focuses instead on Narrative Device (which is not the same as Narrative Drive!).

Today Shanea shares really exciting news in the next chapter of her life! Here’s a hint - the gripe girls will be in the same timezone soon! Woo hoo! They also discuss a novel and show they’ve read and are now watching - the book “Lessons in Chemistry” written by Bonnie Garmus was adapted into a series and released this month on Apple TV and Shanea finally caught up so they were able to watch episodes 1 - 3. So, SPOILER ALERT - if you haven’t read or watched it but planned it, or care, you may want to stop listening after the 1st segment until you’re all caught up! Otherwise, press play and join in on the fun!

Bridget Jones's Diary: why we love her

Bridget Jones's Diary: why we love her

Because the novel is so funny and easy to read, and because the film is a romcom, it's easy to dismiss Bridget Jones's Diary as a simple story that Helen Fielding simply dashed off on a weekend. But nothing could be further from the truth. Even though it's a lighthearted story, Bridget is still a dimensional character and that's why we love her.

We're back on that Ivory train! The Merchant/Ivory Express! Since A ROOM WITH A VIEW, we've been destined to revisit James Ivory as a filmmaker of tremendous honesty and compassion when it comes to realistic cinematic depictions of full-frontal nudity.

In this "Clean-Up" Episode, we're covering MAURICE, another adaption from the E.M. Forster catalogue of tales and a memorable addition to the staple of gay cinema. It's a period film and one that Laura loved very much (even if it is a bit long).

Episode 72: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Episode 72: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Welcome to Screen Tea Podcast! We're back from our (unplanned, oops) hiatus with an episode featuring a special guest: our very own D&D DM (say that ten times fast (Lisha does))! This is fitting, since we're coming back to you with this year's adventure fantasy film, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves! Grab your luckiest D20 and roll along with us as Lisha gets a bit salty over a wasted bard, Jules squees over cHoNkY dRaGoN, our resident DM Myles is able to interject with some actual DnD insight, and all three of your hosts for the evening fall over the endearing, self-deprecating sorcerer brought to life by the amazing Justice Smith. We'd love you to join the party, so bring your warmest tea or your coldest tavern ale and give us a listen; we've missed you folks ❤
