Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

    Hour 1

The Broncos are releasing Russell Wilson and will need to start over at the quarterback position in the NFL draft. We talked about JJ McCarthy’s stock going up as we get closer to the draft. He’s been linked to the Giants. Rich Eisen said the Giants are done with Daniel Jones and have buyer’s remorse. Kirk Cousins has also been linked to the Falcons, as has Justin Fields. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds of Jason Kelce retiring. He got all choked up. Jerry went around the NBA and the NHL last night. Zack Wheeler met the media after signing a huge extension with the Phillies. In the final segment of the hour, what will Jason Kelce do in his retirement? Will he be a studio analyst during the NFL season? Maybe he would be good as a color analyst.

    Hour 2

Boomer watched the movie ‘Saltburn’ and found it really twisted and weird. The Mets will be debuting a dance team this year. When will the Mets highlight the dance team? Gio remembers a male member of the St. John’s dance team who was a little thick but all in. A caller wonders about the Rangers at the trade deadline. A caller wonders why Big Zoo wouldn’t try out for the Mets dance team. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco talking about Russell Wilson being released by the Broncos. Jerry has audio from Jason Kelce’s retirement press conference. He cried his way through it. Charles Barkley is not a fan of people wearing Donald Trump mugshot t-shirts. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders if the Giants should bring in Russell Wilson for cheap. A caller wonders what Boomer’s motivation is to keep getting up early for radio and giving up weekends during football season. Boomer said it’s a great platform for The Boomer Esiason Foundation which is very important to him.

    Hour 3

A moose attacked an iditarod team and the musher had to kill and gut the moose. We talked about how large Moose really are when you are up close and personal with them. Remember that time when Mike Francesa said he ‘met’ Secretariat? Jerry returns for an update and starts with Jason Kelce retiring and crying his way through his speech. Braylon Edwards saved an 80 year old man from getting beat up by a 25 year old in a YMCA locker room. Tommy Luguaer called Evan Roberts an ass for celebrating the Jalen Brunson injury in a group text. Chris Russo gave his Mt Rushmore of sports media people. In the final segment of the hour, Shinesty, the ball hammock underwear company, sent us some products. A caller wonders if Boomer could still beat up a 25 year old if he had to. We also talked about Evan dying his beard every day for the next 3 weeks.

    Hour 4

A caller just returned from Mets spring training and said if they don’t sign Pete Alonso, he might just root for the team he goes to. He also said he has a 7-foot son. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with audio of Jason Kelce’s speech from his retirement press conference. The Moment of The Day involves an ill-Boomer, the Rangers and Boomer’s take on Devils fans. In the final segment of the show, Gio contacted someone at the Mets about getting Big Zoo out to Citi-field to perform with the new Mets team. Callers continue to say Gio is not good at golf. Gio agrees, but he’s getting better every time he plays. Gio doesn’t brag about playing great. He just started golf about a year ago.

Moose Attacks Iditarod Team - Finds Out; More From Jason Kelce Retirement; Braylon Edwards The Hero; Evan Roberts Celebrates Injuries; Ball Hammock Delivery (Hour 3)

#212 - Frode Lein | Gobi, Yukon, Iditarod, Namibia, Kilimanjaro, Mustang Race, Antarktis

    190. Tanya McCreedy - Through The Storm

Welcome to The Building Men Podcast, where we explore stories of personal growth, resilience, and redemption. Today, I speak with Tanya McCready, a wonderful human being who works to inspire teams Is to overcome challenges and reach their goals through improved teamwork, leadership, and vision.  Tanya McCready along with her husband Hank DeBruin, fell in love with a husky puppy in a pet store almost 30 years ago. Adopting that puppy ended up changing the entire trajectory of their lives. After reading books and watching movies to better understand this pup, they decided to try dogsledding. A passion was found and their husky family quickly grew to 7.

In 1999 Tanya quit her job as an Environmental Engineer, gave up her plans to go to law school. Hank quit his job as a millwright, they rented out their house and moved to the wilderness of Haliburton, Ontario, to chase a dream of starting a business, a lifestyle and a family around their beloved dogs. Winterdance was born.

Winterdance now welcomes over 2000 guests from around the globe every winter to experience travelling through the Winterdance with their beloved huskies .

Hank and their huskies have had many adventures from Maine to Alaska including competing in six 1000-mile races in Alaska and the Yukon. The lessons and stories that have come from these races have created 2 best selling books. The latest Journey of 1000 Miles has become an international best seller.

    Snow Dogs

    Snow Dogs

Once again we do a sports movie podcast about a movie that doesn't reeeaaalllly have any sports in it, and not on purpose.  Here's a helpful tip, don't watch Snow Dogs, ever.  Sean and Brad talk about Cuba Gooding, Jr being James Coburn's biological son, blue cheese, and why isn't Nana a lead dog.  Listen to the podcast.  Don't watch the movie.

Next episode:  Some Kind of Wonderful (It's our 50th episode which also means it's an Out of Bounds episode!

Some Kind of Wonderful is streaming on HBO Max (maybe it's just called Max now, which is kinda dumb) or go borrow it from your local library.

Episode 68 - Safety to Nome

Episode 68 - Safety to Nome

This week the Erins explore the limits of human endurance in Safety to Nome, available to rent on Amazon. This doc really conveys the cold ass experience of competing in ultra marathon, the Iditarod Trail Invitational. Us lower 48 types might expect to find mushers and sweet doggos in this race, but alas, it is only for walkers, skiers, and bicyclers. Find out why some choose to pit themselves against mother nature in this race that can be up to 1000 miles!

Ep.94 Alaska’s Dog Races and Hot Cases

Ep.94 Alaska’s Dog Races and Hot Cases

We finish up the winter season by heading up north to Alaska! First, Lauren covers the eerie side of the Iditarod Dog Race. Telling us tales of the spooky trails! Then, Kenzie covers the life and crimes of Thomas Richard Bunday. A man known as the North Pole Serial Killer whose crimes were nowhere near jolly. So bundle up as we *race* through the Alaskan tundra!

Leading Winning Teams: 5 Leadership Lessons from Mushers

Leading Winning Teams: 5 Leadership Lessons from Mushers

On a recent sub-zero day on a frozen lake in central Minnesota, I got a chance to witness great team leadership in action.  It was a crash course in what leading winning teams is all about.  Here’s what the experience was like, and five key lessons from the leaders themselves that we can all use in leading our own teams.

    Notes and Resources:

    • Prefer to read?  Here’s the full post:Leading Winning Teams: 5 Leadership Lessons from Mushers
    • A great article posted on LinkedIn by Aaron Phillips goes even farther into detail with his conversations with several of the mushers featured in this podcast.
    • If you are interested in a deeper dive into the interface between mushing and leadership, an hour well-spent would be with the Always in Pursuit podcast interview with 5x Iditarod champion musher Dallas Seavey, hosted by Mike Burke, an exceptional leader in his own right.

    Quotable:

“I have to figure out how to make each dog reach its best potential.”
    - Libby Riddles, first woman to win the Iditarod

“They’re a great team because I eat beans and rice and they eat steak and eggs.
     -
    Iditarod musher Lance Mackay

“Good leaders do not secure their position by making others less confident.
     -
    Caroline Blair-Smith, Musher

“It is not what the challenge is, it’s how the team handles the challenge.”
    - Dallas Seavey, 5-Time Iditarod Champion

“My job is to make sure these dogs succeed.  The race portion will take care of itself.”
    - Dallas Seavey

It's never too late to have a happy childhood

The very last thing Yair Kellner said after this captivating conversation, and talking about more than 60 years of adventure, outdoors, camping, hiking, paddle-boarding, canoeing, climbing and bike-packing was this; It's never too late to have a happy childhood. Now in his mid-sixties, Yair is still loving his childhood, and all the adventures that go with it.

From the age of five he has had a passion for the great outdoors, the beauty of nature, and learning to adapt in environments much different to the one most of us are used to. The lessons he has picked up along the way are not just about how to survive when you fall through the ice in 30-50 degree below temperatures with an 80kg fully-laden bike. He has learned about perspective, humility, peace, mindfulness, determination and understanding the rules that each situation requires.

How he survived in Alaska, when all the odds were stacked against him, is a story you don't want to miss. I mean, when taking all your clothes off after getting out of the below zero river to avoid them encasing you in the 30 degree below outside air is your best option for survival, you know things are bad. This is a man with calm courage, life experience, amazing wisdom and powerful stories. This is a wonderful conversation you will want to enjoy.
