We kick things off as Doug sits down with two very special guests, author/speaker Sheela Subramanian (VP of Future Forum at Slack) and Kevin Griffin (lead singer of Better Than Ezra) - that's right, a rock star...but what does a best-selling author and  a rock star have in common at a workplace event? Simply put, they are experts in the art of connection and collaboration in the pursuit of something bigger than themselves.

Partitioning: Why its important to end on a high note

Partitioning: Why its important to end on a high note

In this episode, Maria talks about the concept of partitioning and why it’s important to leave every client meeting on a high note.

    ● Clients want something to be checked off after a meeting

    ● There are five stages:

    • Identify what they need
    • Gather information
    • Compare
    • Evaluate
    • Decide

    ● Completing something is 10 times more important than the process

    ● Creating partitions where something gets accomplished keeps the client happy!

To find some tools to help create partitions, use Design Appy to leave your client with a visual after the first meeting or Maria’s custom home design lists.

When do you need a Press Release

When do you need a Press Release

A press release is an official statement delivered to members of the news media for the purpose of providing information, an official statement, or making an announcement.

In this episode, Mirjam explains what a press release is and when you may need one.

    • A press release is an official statement delivered to members of the news media for the purpose of providing information, an official statement, or making an announcement.
    • Purpose is to announce something, for example:
      • Company launch
      • New products/services
      • New hires
      • Events
      • Awards
      • New clients/partnerships
      • Company growth
      • Exhibiting, speaking at event
      • New office location
      • Charitable activities
    • What goes in a press releases:
      • Ask: who cares?
      • Who, what, when, where, why
      • Boilerplate/backgrounder
      • Facts only - no fluff or salesy language
    • Hire a professional to write it!

You Have to Give to Get The Power of Reciprocity

You Have to Give to Get The Power of Reciprocity

In this episode, Maria walks us through the behavioral economics concepts of reciprocity.

    • You have to give something first before you can get or ask for anything.
    • Two prime examples from the world of marketing:
      • Doing PR is based on reciprocity: to get the press you want you have to first give the journalist what they need.
      • Your email newsletter should provide 80% valuable content and only 20% about you, so your reader is engaged and interested.
      • On social media, use a similar approach. Provide lots of entertaining and informative content before asking for anything.
      • On your website, offer people something special to build trust and likeability.
      • Client gifts are key during and after working on a project.
    • If you give freely, people are likely to reciprocate!

Loss Aversion: Why Do Renderings Work

Loss Aversion: Why Do Renderings Work

In this episode, Maria walks us through the two behavioral economics concepts that perfectly explain the reason why renderings work.

    • Loss aversion & perceived ownership - make your client see, feel and anticipate the experience, paint the picture of the end result
    • Once the client sees the rendering, they feel ownership before they buy and they don’t want to lose it.
    • Print media placements carry higher perceived value than online
