    Public Failure

    Public Failure

Today's episode kicks off a new concept I will be doing this year - Themes of the Week. Each week, I will cover a specific theme in the three different media in which I communicate to you. On Mondays, I will talk here on the podcast about a quote or quotes dealing with that theme. On Wednesdays, I will do a video on that theme over on my SlamDunk Success YouTube Channel. And on Fridays, I will have a short blog post on that theme on my SlamDunk Success site.

This week is devoted to the theme of Failure, and more specifically, Public Failure. While that may seem like a bummer of a theme, it is a critical element of life for us to have to deal with because it is inevitable that we will have failure at various moments in our lives.

Today's quote comes to us from James Clear, the author of one of my favorite books ever, Atomic Habits. I highly recommend you check it out. I got the quote from James Clear's newsletter, which I also highly recommend you check out.

While the quote talks about public failure in sports, the lesson is applicable to all of us. However, since most of you listening to this are coaches, it is HIGHLY applicable to you and how you handle failure when dealing with your teams.

We continue the series around one thing you can do for your mental health - this episode centers around habits.

I give you some examples of "habit stacking", and how you can apply it to your daily routine.

    Beneath the Remains

    Beneath the Remains

There are wreckages in life, that can leave us angry, frustrated and bitter. Healing, often leaves us with more questions than answers. Before we know it, we are buried under the weight and desperate to exhume what’s left of ourselves. We need a path to get us out from Beneath the Remains.

Where do we start digging through the events, feelings and traumas that leave us feeling unable to get us looking for the shovel? We often need a catalyst to act as a detonator to blast open our hearts and minds. Much of the debris is left from childhood and patterns of behavior and pain. Our unconscious minds will often shut us down in times of severe trauma to shield us.

Beneath the Remains is where you may be right now. You don't have to stay there. One by one move the rocks, throw the dirt and build a brand new structure. It will take time, it will take strength, it will take moving forward. It will create light, it will create a new village.

This past Saturday was NIpperFest 2022. We met amazing people, had wonderful conversations and hopefully we made the world a little less dark and scary for some of you. We are so grateful to be fortunate enough to bring you this content every week.

Special thanks to Kevin Maloney. Kevin was in-studio when we recorded this episode. Kevin's incredible talent bookends every episode now. Kevin created our intro/outro music. Kevin also played guitar on Will's latest single, Memoir. Kevin's talent is immense and lives forever on recordings from his band Withstand and the Final Sleep.

Huge thanks and gratitude to Jim Gilbert, Laura D, Amy Klemme and everyone at Nippertown for their support and we couldn't be happier to be part of the team. Ralph Renna for his friendship, dedication to our scene and for getting AGP involved. Vegas Nacy and the Empire Live team for their security at NipperFest this past weekend. Last, but not least, everyone that came out, shared stories, took resources, and chose to not let stigma get in the way of coming over to our table. See you soon!

298: Jamie Winship on How Live Fearless in Your True Identity

This week on the podcast, our favorite guest (actually, our most popular guest of all time), Jamie Winship is back to talk about how to live fearless in your true identity. Of all the conversations we've had with Jamie, this one is the cornerstone. One of the main messages I want you to extrapolate from the conversation is understanding why we so easily lean toward behavior modification instead of heart transformation.

#85 - Are Morning Routines Necessary?

#85 - Are Morning Routines Necessary?

In this episode of the podcast we look at morning routines. With many top performers we often see them talking about their routines & habits. Consistent habits are key to success in any domain, yet many of us find it difficult to implement these on a daily basis.

We explore if morning routines are actually important, can they help us during the day or do they just contribute to a small part of the puzzle.

We also discuss different routines I implement myself and with clients to help get the most out of the morning and promote a positive attitude towards the day.

Getting Back Into a Regular Routine

Getting Back Into a Regular Routine

When thinking of a regular routine, some feel it’s boring, unimaginative and uninteresting. But I beg to differ. A regular routine can bring freedom and joy of productivity if you vary your regular routine and implement small changes. The boundaries and guidelines of a regular routine, along with flexibility has the power to change your output, your enjoyment of life and even relationships.

When routines are broken because of circumstances, whether health, disaster, relationship or other reason, it’s hard to get back on track. How many of you have missed even several days of working out then found it super-easy to go back to the gym? Most find this difficult. In the case of going through a pandemic, most were at least a year away from the gym. Maybe you don’t go to the gym…but I’ll bet there’s another routine that you have, whether walking, riding a bike or other sort of exercise.

The point to all this is that adding a regular habitual activity, even very small, has the power to change your life. Change your habits, change your life. Full Article: Regular Routine

E309 Bite Size Changes That Create Atomic Habits

E309 Bite Size Changes That Create Atomic Habits

In the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, a new process is spelt out on how we can actually stop focusing on our goals and make even more progress in the meantime.

He explains how a British cycling team went from being a team that nobody wanted to sponsor to being one of the leading teams in the world. This all stemmed from new management implementing small changes that soon resulted in massive wins for the team both as individuals and as a collective.
