    Double feature: Westerns!

In this week's episode, David picked two westerns that show similar themes, and follow the western cliches while also being a unique take in the genre. In the first half of the episode, the TML duo discusses the 1985 film Silverado, and how Hollywood flipped the "western myth" on its head. In the latter half of the episode, Izzi and David discuss the 2020  film News of the World, where they talk about how the western genre has changed and what it means in today's world.

Ken and Gar delve into the world of Victor Hugo's Paris this week when they watched Disney's adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). The brothers discuss how Disney strayed from the source material in their telling of this classic tale and the pitfalls of succumbing to ones urges. Eve Stewart: De-Lovely (2004)

    Eve Stewart: De-Lovely (2004)

Thank you for your patience! This week we're back to talk about De-Lovely, the next film in our Eve Stewart retrospective. It's about the musical icon Cole Porter, played with zest by Kevin Kline, as he re-lives the best and worst of his life at the behest of the angel Gabriel (Jonathan Pryce). The film features songs written by Cole Porter, all sung by popular modern musicians. But the question remains: is the film any good?

It's...charming, but never quite reaches "great." The real MVP of the film is Eve Stewart and her production design. It's breathtaking, and quickly overshadows everything else in the film. Join us, won't you?

Bad Romances: I Love You To Death

Bad Romances: I Love You To Death

“Kevin Kline as an Italian. What a different world 1990 was.”

I Love You to Death is a 1990 American black comedy film directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring an ensemble cast featuring Kevin Kline, Tracey Ullman, Joan Plowright, River Phoenix, William Hurt, and Keanu Reeves.

The screenplay by John Kostmayer is loosely based on an attempted murder that happened in 1983, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where Frances Toto repeatedly tried to kill her husband, Anthony.  She spent four years in prison for attempted murder and was released in 1988.

Tracey Ulman is killing it in the movie; well, at least trying to kill her husband anyway.
Her husband runs a pizza joint and cheats on her with his side slices until she discovers the infidelity and plots a hit on him.

Dave mentions Tacoma F.D. and John hips you into V.F.W, in theaters now.

Bless me, listeners, for I have been away. It's been one week since my last podcast...
We had a great time in Tucson, so today is about our weekend mini-break and other catching up. I review Amanda Palmer's new album There Will Be No Intermission, and I'm talking a bit about tarot, messages from the universe, writer finances, and miscellaneous other thoughts about life.
That's my mom and my aunt in the photo, toasting my mom's birthday.
