    Matt Graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.  Before Matt broke into Medical Sales, he worked on the West Coast Marketing Team for McDonalds. He got to help firsthand with their TV & Radio ads. Then, he started interning for a sales company called DriveTime. After that, he broke into Medical Sales!! He started out as an associate sales rep with little experience and almost a non-existent knowledge of the medical field. As an associate rep, Matt shattered his numbers and was promoted to a full line Medical Sales Representative in under 1 year. He now manages one of the largest territories in Arizona for shoulder arthroplasty.

    Trevor graduated from The University of Arizona with a General Studies degree focused on Sports & Psychology and played Tight End for the UofA football team.  After graduation, he went to the Great State of Texas to join the Texas A&M Aggie Football team for his final year of eligibility.  After that season with the Aggies, for a short time, he played in the NFL for  the Pittsburgh Steelers!

    Matt Perry first broke into medical sales in 2014 with Zimmer.  Shortly after he came on board, they became Zimmer Biomet.  He started out as an associate sales rep and within a year, he had worked his way up to a full line rep, covering the entire Zimmer Biomet bag .  Within 2 years, he was pulled up to take on Stanford Hospital as his account.  That position helped prepare him to take on a role as a Team Lead in the Scottsdale Market for Zimmer Biomet.  Matt was told by numerous recruiters to take a B2B sales position before trying to break into medical sales.  Matt knew what he wanted, so he ignored that advice, and through grit and determination, broke into the Medical Sales Industry without any previous formal sales experience.  During this episode we will dive into Robotic Surgery, Total Joints, what it is like to cover an academic institution, interview tips for people trying to break in to this industry, and more!

    Angelo Mastrio: Got his “MBA” in Medical Sale from Experience

    Won Presidents Club, the #1 rep 3 years in a row, and has 12 years of incremental revenue growth. He has been in the sales industry for just over 18 years and specifically in medical sales for 16 years. Some of his career highlights include:

    -Top 5 of Sales Reps in the Western Region at Cintas where he also earned Rookie of the Year and President’s Club

    -Having no previous medical experience, he broke into the med device industry with Stryker

    -After that he decided to cut his teeth in the distributor world. He was the #1 Vegas Sales Rep at Access Orthopedics in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and incrementally grew his territory by 20% in 2009 and 25% in 2010 

    -Angelo also began his own distributorship in 2007 where he: Grew his sales from $590,000 in 2007 to $3.5 million in 2019 – 12 straight years of incremental growth

    It doesn’t stop there – Angelo was a full line territory manager for both Men’s and Women’s Health at Boston Scientific. Angelo won President’s Club in 2012 and continued to move up the ranks being promoted 2 times. While in these roles Angelo was involved in many additional internal roles such as being a field sales trainer, a regional team leader, sat on the sales leadership council, was part of the peer mentor program all while consistently meeting and exceeding quota throughout this time. 

    Currently, Angelo is the Director of Sales and Distribution at Contura.  He shares with us his journey into this incredible field, his recommendations for taking a 1099 vs. W2 position when you are first starting out in Medical Sales, and the importance of learning about each and every aspect of the business.

    John has been with Orthoscan for over 11 years.  He started out as a sales specialist and worked his way up to the Director of Sales.  When he was a Regional Manager at Orthoscan, he won Region of the year in 2014, 2015, and 2016 by leading his team to the highest sales revenue in the country.  Capital medical sales is unlike anything else out there.  We have only had surgical orthopedic reps and managers on our podcast. John will give us a glimpse into the sales process and how it differs in the Medical Capital Equipment Sales World. We will also get a feel for how he organizes his territory and the difference between providing your solution to one end user versus multiple, with a high importance & emphasis on qualifying your leads.

    Mitch Doyle: The 2019 US Sports Med Rep of the Year

    Should always try to understand “why” a surgeon buys something.  During this episode we will be talking to Mitch Doyle.  Mitch was the 2019 US Sports Med Rep of the year for Smith & Nephew. He started out as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Arizona.  He then became the Director of Athletic training and Assistant professor at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Shortly after taking a role as a Sports Medicine Instructor at the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine, he started working at TOSA Medical, a Medical Sales Distributorship representing Orthofix, Exactech, Arthrosurface, etc.  Three years later, he moved to Arizona and worked at Arthrex in Orthopedic Surgical Sales for 4+ years.  Eventually after his non-compete was up, he transitioned to a role in Orthopedic Surgical Sales at Smith and Nephew in Arizona.  He has been there for 5+ years. For those currently in medical sales or right about to break in, this episode will be an incredible listen to start you out on the right foot! We discover the importance of using the "sniper" approach rather then the "shotgun" approach to find your first medical sales job.  This also translates to when you are targeting a surgeon in your territory.  We also learn about uncovering a surgeon's "why."  Throwing brochures with features and benefits at a surgeon is not enough in this arena.
