Building Mental Strength with Joshua Brown | Ep: 312 Joshua Brown

Building Mental Strength with Joshua Brown | Ep: 312 Joshua Brown

Joshua Brown has been married for 25 years to Jennifer. He is a father of six, which includes three girls, and three boys. Joshua is the founder of a vocational ministry experience. He opened a side hustle and turned it into a national brand where ministers are invited to enter into the marketplace so they can create jobs, make disciples and serve the city.

What business problem do you solve?

In this episode, Joshua will guide us in cultivating mental resilience, emphasizing the importance of persevering through challenges, staying committed, and ultimately completing our life journey with faith and determination.

    Small Business Answer Man Shownotes:

    • Joshua starts by expressing the importance of navigating through life’s experiences with faith and perseverance.
    • He further opens up about his early life, marked by adversity and struggles.
    • He stresses the significance of facing challenges head-on and the resilience required to resist the temptation to give up.
    • Joshua challenges the conventional perception that ministry is confined to denominational or vocational roles.
    • He goes on by sharing his personal experiences of being labeled a “pressure-washing pastor” even outside traditional ministry settings.
    • He encourages a broader perspective, asserting that pastoral calling is not restricted to traditional roles.
    • Joshua draws parallels with the experiences of John Wesley, underscoring moments of uncertainty in his spiritual journey.
    •  He emphasizes that uncertainties in one’s relationship with God are both common and transitory. Joshua advocates for seeking God’s presence through prayer as a means to rejuvenate and strengthen spiritual connections.
    • Joshua stresses that entrepreneurs are stewards, not owners, of their businesses.
    • He underscores the importance of surrendering business to God to alleviate the burden of constant worry.
    • Lastly, Joshua offers guidance to entrepreneurs, suggesting that they recognize God’s responsibility for their businesses and prioritize the crucial aspect of rest.

Joshua Brown’s Best Small Business Tip:

Joshua recommends that small business owners prioritize self-care, emphasizing that effective leadership serves as the cornerstone for every aspect of business. He encourages them to assess their fitness, finances, faith, and family, identifying areas of strength and weakness. By doing so, entrepreneurs can strategically focus on enhancing their strengths and addressing areas that require improvement.

S6 Ep14: Minna Wood - Founder of Metawell on the gut-brain axis and the food-mood connection

S6 Ep14: Minna Wood - Founder of Metawell on the gut-brain axis and the food-mood connection

There I was thinking I knew quite a lot about nutrition, diet, the gut and how it all works... but turns out, I really have so much to learn!  So I was blessed to get to sit down with the wonderful nutrition consultant and founder of MetaWell, Minna Wood

She is a walking, talking advert for what she promotes... she is the epitome of health with beautiful glossy hair, bright eyes and incredible skin! I was so envious!

We discuss all things food and emotion. Minna explains how a high-sugar, high-additive, processed diet is addictive and can lead to low mood, anxiety and mental health issues. We also discuss foods that can improve moods, reduce anxiety and improve mental health conditions...and as always, so much more. Meet Minna!
    .
Minna Wood is a BANT registered nutrition and lifestyle medicine practitioner, a mindset coach, a bit of a gut health detective and a healthy foodie!

Her nutrition and coaching clinic MetaWell is based in Bracknell.

She helps clients with chronic symptoms, particularly gut symptoms, low mood, low energy, autoimmune conditions and menopausal symptoms. On top of her one-to-one clinic work and healthy cooking sessions, she also facilitates the Food and Mood course at Stepping Stones Bracknell and has ran Nutrition for Long Covid sessions with NHS long covid patients.

S6 Ep11: Jessie Asya Kanzer - Author of 'Don't Just Sit There, Do Nothing: Healing, Chilling & Living with the Tao Te Ching', on how perfecting the art of doing nothing can offer us wisdom, healing, and grounding – and possibly be the most productive thin

For years, Jessie Asya Kanzer felt like a failure, unable to “make it,” either as an actress or in the rat race. Her childhood as a Russian immigrant in post-Cold War America heightened her insecurity and threatened her identity, desperate as she was to fit into a culture that was alien at best and hostile at worst.

    .
This loss and eventual reclamation of her sense of self sent her on a more spiritual path during which she discovered the Tao Te Ching, which changed everything for her.

    .

The Tao taught her that there was power in stillness, and that all struggles come bearing gifts if you know how to recognize them.

    .

We cover so much from: how to tap into and trust your intuition; how the Tao can cure you of perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies; why it’s important to continue to embrace stillness, even amidst a push to return to “normal” following the pandemic; and so much more... reminding us that there’s power in slowing down.

    .

Her book "Don’t Just Sit There, Do Nothing" offers practical, actionable insights on incorporating its wisdom into your everyday life

S6 Ep7: Leonard Perlmutter - Founder of American Meditation Institute; Author of 'Your Conscience' & 'The Heart & Science of Yoga' on how to create immediate positive change in our lives by learning to rely on our conscience

Everytime I have a guest on the show I am blown away by their mind and the conversation we have and this one is no different and, genuinely, I think you'll agree that this is one of the most interesting rambles and one of the most fascinating humans.

Leonard Perlmutter is the founder of the American Meditation Institute and the originator of National Conscience Month. He is the author of 'The Heart and Science of Yoga' and his most recent book has just come out (and is on order!) called 'Your Conscience - The key to Unlock Limitless Wisdom and Creativity and Solve All of Life's Challenges'

His book is a simple, logical introduction to how your mind works, and the perfect entry point for anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling life simply by learning to depend on their conscience. And our chat covered so many different themes, not only included in the book but we went off on some wonderful, very inspiring tangents.

My guest today on Mindset Unfiltered podcast is Mark Billingham MBE - otherwise known as 'Billy'.

His life began as a tearaway kid on the streets of Walsall - a world that saw him face death twice before he was 16. He turned his life around when he joined the Parachute Regiment in 1983, before completing the gruelling selection process to join the SAS in 91 as a Mountain Troop specialist.
    .
This decorated war hero who spent 27 years in the armed forces, received an MBE for leading the mission in Iraq to rescue a Brit hostage. He also won the Queen's Commendation for Bravery after capturing an IRA sniper by using himself as bait. Mark was one of the highest ranks in the SAS - Warrant Officer Class 1.
    .
After his time in the SAS he became bodyguard to some of the most famous A-listers including Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise and has appeared in various films alongside the likes of Ray Winstone and Idris Elba

Doors opened in the most unlikely of ways and now Mark is the leading taskmaster on C4's gruelling show, SAS: Who Dares Wins.
    .
His two books: The Hard Way and Call To Kill have had huge success and his third is in creation
    .
Not only that but Mark is giving back. After the devastation of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti REBUILD globally was born. The charity, with Mark as ambassador, is embarking on a mission to provide a sustainable, entrepreneurial solutions for survivors. He tells us more about this in our chat and please do go to https://rebuildglobally.org/ to find out more

Give it a go, and even if you don’t get to your goal, you’ll definitely be in a better place than when you started that’s for sure

S5 Ep6: Martine Wright MBE - Paralympian and inspirational and motivational speaker, who lost both legs in the Circle line bombing during the 2005 terrorist attacks in London

S5 Ep6: Martine Wright MBE - Paralympian and inspirational and motivational speaker, who lost both legs in the Circle line bombing during the 2005 terrorist attacks in London

I remember the day of the 7/7 London bombings. Normally, I would have taken the tube across london to make my way to Liverpool street where I was working in events but we had put on an event ourselves the night before and had basically decided to take the day off to recover.

    .
In a parallel universe, Martine caught the Circle line tube to work and sat just three feet away from suicide bomber Shehzad Tanweer.

    .
The worst injured, and consequently last rescued survivor, Martine was trapped for over an hour having lost 80% of her blood supply as well as both legs above the knees.  What followed was a painful year of rehabilitation including learning to walk again on prosthetics.

    .
She considers herself a lucky woman with a whole new life of opportunities. Martine has since rebuilt her life, skydived, earned her pilot’s license, become a wife, become a mother, become captain of the British Paralympic Sitting volleyball team, charity ambassador, mentor to patients, inspirational and motivational speaker and author of ‘Unbroken’, where she recounts her inspirational journey - and for what, in 2018, she won Autobiography of the Year with.

    .
Since competing for Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympics, Martine has gone on to present high-profile sporting events on the BBC and Channel 4, including the Paralympics and Invictus Games, and was a roving reporter at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. She won BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012 and last year was awarded an MBE for her services to sport and work as a role model for amputee athletes.

    .
Now, while playing sport, Martine wears her lucky number 7 with pride, transforming what happened into a positive and a clear and meaningful sign of her rehabilitation, and also in memory of those who lost their lives.

    .
Please, take some time out, pause and listen to this truly incredible woman. Meet Martine Wright.

S4 E5 John Adams: an inspirational chat about how he deals with life despite being paralysed from the chest down

In this humbling and inspiring episode I chat to my dear pal John who woke up in hospital to discover he had experienced a tragic accident 6 weeks prior when riding his motorbike to work at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and was now paralysed from the T3 vertebra down - from the nipple line down. His total memory loss of the accident was somewhat of a blessing for him but tough, of course, on his loved ones around him.
    .
This is an emotional episode but one that is full of courage and hope. We cover Johns journey from wake up until now. The hurdles and successes along the way. The magnitude of impact such a life event has had on his life and his family and friends.  But where many would give up with irreversible injuries like this, John has fought with sheer, relentless determination to get his life back on the road. His mindset is undeterred and is hugely inspirational. What a man.
    .
I must mention 'Back Up' who are a great charity inspiring people affected by spinal cord injury to get the most out of life www.backuptrust.org.uk

Itching to start at 13 he finally was allowed to join the army from 16 and enjoyed a 32 year career in the army with the last 2 years being in defence - a career he is SO passionate about. His many life changing experiences range from being deployed to fight in the hardest battlefield situations in the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to receiving an OBE from the Queen and we discuss it all.

    .

Not only that, but can you believe that even HE - a man who you would imagine is the toughest of them all, the bravest - has also experienced his own mental health lows - and not from battlefield trauma, like you would first imagine (although he obviously knows clearly how this pain can affect and talks as an expert in this area) - but from a 'mental burnout' as he describes it in which he totally broke down and fell in to a tough period of depression

He opens up about this period and discusses his daily '1-10 Mantra' that he uses religiously that I URGE you to try for yourself. What a great idea and one of the best daily toolboxes for mental health I have ever heard.

Thanks again to Matt Keel for this intro - the best photographer ever - and yes Glenn agrees ;-)
