Episode 232 - Here I Raise My Ebenezer - A Rock Solid Foundation Part 9

Ever wonder what the hymn writer meant when he wrote, "Here I raise my ebenezer' here by Thy great help I've come. This is not just a song lyric. It's one of the foundational truths we find in Genesis chapters 22 - 23.  Join us for this episode as we delve into this truth as well as the foundational truths that we obey God because God is God,  Faith without obedience isn’t faith,  God can be trusted even when He cannot be understood, Our logical assumptions don’t discount our faith, they accompany it, and Our committment to Christ brings responsibilities and duties.

Seeking Humility and Obedience in a Divided Catholic Church - w/ Fr David Nix

Seeking Humility and Obedience in a Divided Catholic Church - w/ Fr David Nix

Imagine witnessing a shocking incident during a Sunday Mass that leaves you questioning the responsibilities of priests in emergency situations. That's exactly what happened to one of us recently, and in this episode, Father Dave Nix and us explore this event, the importance of sacraments like confession and extreme unction, and the challenges faced by the Catholic Church today.

Our conversation takes us through the crisis in the Catholic Church, discussing the authority of priests to grant the Apostolic Pardon and how to balance truth and obedience. We also touch on the concept of Catholic unity and the need for authority and truth to reunite to end the crisis. Throughout our talk, we emphasize the importance of humility, detachment, and obedience in one's spiritual journey.

Finally, we delve into the beauty of the Camino pilgrimage and the fraternal experience of walking and talking together. We share some personal stories of spiritual direction and growth, and look forward to some upcoming guests on the podcast. Join us for this thought-provoking episode as we seek a deeper understanding of our faith and the challenges faced by the Catholic Church today.

Avoiding Babylon was started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During these difficult and dark days, when most of us were isolated from family, friends, our parishes, and even the Sacraments themselves, this channel was started as a statement of standing against the tyrannical mandates that many of us were living under. Since those early days, this channel has morphed into an amazing community of friends…no…more than friends…Christian brothers and sisters…who have grown in joy and charity.

Avoiding Babylon does not criticize the hierarchy or institutional Church, especially Pope Francis. We recognize there is an unprecedented crisis in the Church, but we feel that there are other shows that address these issues that are more qualified than us. Instead, we try to remind ourselves and those who enjoy the channel that being Catholic is a joyful and exciting experience. We seek true Catholic fraternity and eutrapelia with other Catholics who, like us, are doing their best to live out their vocation with the help of God’s Grace. Above all, we try to bring humor and joy to the craziness of this fallen world, for as Hillaire Belloc has famously said:

“Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine,
There’s always laughter and good red wine.
At least I’ve always found it so.
    Benedicamus Domino!”

The Humble Will Prosper - Part 2

The Humble Will Prosper - Part 2

Everyone wants to connect with the ones they love the most, but connection takes humility. And humility isn't easy, is it? Regardless of the ease, God created YOU to be connected to Him and to other people. Therefore, God created you to be able to be humble. And true, eternal connection with God and others through Jesus Christ begins with that mindset. In the second part of this NEW episode, we finish the story of King Nebuchadnezzar's path from great prosperity to great humility. You'll see that God uses humility NOT to simply smite but to connect someone to Himself. At the end of this podcast, you'll hear three challenges that will help you to know how to re-connect with God wherever you are on your journey.
