'Now What? Overcoming Obstacles in the Face of Adversity' with Laura Berman Fortgang & Co-host, Scott Chesney

Welcome to season 2, episode 14.

This week my special guest co-host is back! Scott Chesney is known as the 'Commander in Change', world-renowned motivational speaker and Coach. Visit www.scottchesney.com to learn more about Scott.

Together, we interview, Laura Berman Fortgang, Career Reinvention Catalyst, Founder of Now What?® Coaching, best-selling author, TEDx speaker.

Laura has 25+ years in the personal coaching field. She is a sought after speaker, tv personality. She has appeared on multiple morning shows, Oprah Winfrey Show, is a corporate spokesperson, Interfaith minister and performer. Her TEDx talk has over 1.6 million views. Her five books published in 13 languages. She has addressed public and corporate audiences in many parts of the world on topics such as Reinvention, Career Satisfaction, and Change. Clients range from homemakers to celebrities, Fortune 500 companies including NASA.

She’s best known for her unique career transition “Now What?®” methodology and is currently launching her legacy project,  The A-List Coach Business Mentoring Program to train coaches to get extraordinary results for their clients and leveraging them to business success.

At the age of 5 years old Laura moved from the U.S. to Venezuela where she lived until she was 12. She says although she is not Latina in her blood, she feels she is Latina in her heart and speaks fondly of her time in Venezuela.  When she came back from Venezuela, she found it a bit hard to get reacclimated in American culture. She says that she didn't even know who the Beatles were! In high school the stage became her home. She found a love for theater.

Although, her parents were not all for it, she decided to try and make a go of acting. The life of an actor is not easy and after about 8 years of trying to get to where she wanted to be, depression had set in. During the interview Laura explains the path she needed to take in order to get to a better place. After speaking with a mentor and doing some inner work, Laura decided to transform what she would perform from the stage.

From being an actor performing in a show, she instead decided to take the stage and help move people to transform. She was one of the first 16 students at Coach University and one of the first people to start the International Coaching Federation. We talk about how coaching is different than therapy, and how coaches are now being more sought after than ever.

Listen in to hear Laura's answer to what is the footprint you are creating now that you would like to leave behind?  To learn more about Laura go to laurabermanfortgang.com

Next week, I welcome my guest Nancy France-Vaz, a modern renaissance artist that uses allegorical symbolism to create visual stories on canvas. We talk about the path she had to take in order to do more of what she loves.

Nigel Bristow. A Conversion of logic.

Nigel Bristow. A Conversion of logic.

This interview was truly a unique pleasure of mine and I was honored to facilitate this conversation. Not only will you enjoy listening to this interview because of his beautiful accent, being from South Africa, but his story is captivating and fascinating.

Nigel shares about his childhood, experiencing his parents getting divorced and being raised by his mother that had very little financial support. Not long before his parents divorce they had joined the LDS church. Throughout Nigels life the LDS church had weved in and out. In his late teens, Nigel had experiences that felt like a logical conversion. Certain scriptures made sense to Nigel.

Serving in the military for two years, then serving and LDS mission, Nigel was a man who was determined to create a stable and solid life.

There were several events in his life where things spoken at General Conference, speaking negatively about the LGTBQ+ community, or more truths of the doctrine that were understood by Nigel that eventually created a knowing inside that this wasn't right.

It took some time for Nigel to come clean about how he was feeling and the hardest person to tell was his beautiful wife, Beverly. While she is still choosing to stay in the LDS faith Nigel has chosen out and they are supportive of each other. Although it did take some time to work through their emotions.

This is another beautiful story that you will want to listen to.

Wendi Jensen. Letting go with compassion, grace & ease.

As a mormon, Wendy was a superstar in her LDS culture. As she says, it fed her ego. So when she felt to leave, she collapsed. It was a slow burn coming out. Having a thriving  practice  while she was mormon she was very much trusted until she left. When she left her practice went with is.

Deconstructing and deprogramming is part of Wendy's world. It is what she now helps so many others do, especially with their faith transitions.

Wendy shares that having grace and compassion with yourself as you move through your transition is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

In her business now, she so beautifully assists others in their transitions using the dragonfly as a symbol to guide others in leaving. You will want to hear more about this!
