Ep 496: BFCM Part 1 - Is This The Last One?
This year has been challenging for many brands, but there's hope on the horizon. Unlocking here insights and expert tips on how you can tackle Black Friday Cyber Monday head-on and come out stronger than ever.
In this episode, Jordan West shares an exclusive series dedicated to preparing your brand for the holiday shopping season! He dives into the essential strategies to make the most out of this year's BFCM. He also shares a Viral Topic: Using an irresistible offer to attract customers. If you’re a DTC brand, be sure to never miss this one.
Listen and learn in this episode!
Key takeaways from this episode:
- Consider starting your promotions early and extending them into December to tap into the gift-giving season.
- Instead of offering better discounts as Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach, provide different promotions throughout the sales period.
- Avoid pricing strategies that may frustrate customers, such as increasing discounts as time goes on.
- You don't have to put your entire store on sale.
- Use data from Shopify reports to identify the products that are most likely to sell well during the BFCM promotion.
- Make sure to order products early to ensure availability from your suppliers.
- Rather than highlighting the percentage off, display the resulting slashed price.
- Consider the potential seasonal demand and forecast accordingly using Shopify reports.

Ep 054: Bills, Bills, Bills: What's going on in Canada and Ohio?
Following on from yesterday's Brazil focus, we're heading approximately 5,000 miles north today with Jessica Welman in the drivers seat, joined by Nick Ware of Canadian Gaming Business and Charlie Horner of SBC Americas to discuss two new bills in Canada, with the Senate to discuss national gambling advertising guidelines as well as a First Nations bill that would grant exclusive authority to license, conduct and manage gaming operations on reserves.
Additionally, Ohio passed their budget, which included a tax rate doubled from 10% to 20%, making it one of the most expensive states to operate in. What impact will this have, on both the biggest and smallest operators?

Ep 249: Secrets to Scaling Black Friday Part 2 With Jordan West
Holiday sales are just around the corner, and we all need to be prepared. One of the most common questions asked is how to structure sales and discounts, and what are the most effective strategies to crush it leading up to and during this Black Friday.
In this second episode of the Black Friday series, Jordan West talks about what kinds of discounts to give and how those discounts should be executed. This episode has massive value, so buckle up and listen intently.
KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE
- Tried and tested strategies should be implemented, whether it’s Black Friday or not.
- Apply the Rule of 100. If the average order value is under 100, promote your discounts as a percentage off. If the AOV is over 100, promote your discounts in dollar amounts.
- Don’t make your customers do extra work of remembering a code for their discount.
- Sitewide discounts always win versus the use of coupon codes, but combining these strategies works even better.
- Make sure your margins are set up to always be profitable while discounting.
- Bundling products results in a higher average order value (AOV) which equals higher profits.
- Give your VIPs something special like exclusive discounts or gated launches. Don’t do this by email. You can use SMS or announce it in the community.
- Gated launches are when you password-protect your site, and only allow VIPs the password to access the site.
- Your relationship with your customers should be balanced.

Where You Start is Only Part of the Journey
Welcome to episode 5 of Today is the Day Changemakers, 'Where You Start is Only Part of the Journey.'
In this episode, I interview Kristina Henderson, CEO, Henderson Promos and 2020 Mrs. New Jersey American. Henderson Promos is a certified women owned business. The concept for this business started with Bart, Kristina's husband, making t-shirts in their kitchen to help fund his college education. Kristina's journey did not start with her thinking that she would be a business owner leading an organization, but where you start is truly only part of your journey.
This interview is a great example of how following your heart and doing what you love can lead you down multiple paths until you come upon the one that really lights you up. It is what you learn along the way that helps to create who you are today. We are all evolving and as long as we stay open we are able to give ourselves permission to follow our truth.
Kristina started here career path as a flight attendant, went off to community college, went to Boston University for journalism, and found a love for giving back along the way. Now she is doing that through working with many not-for-profit organizations including Tigger House Foundation, Fulfill, Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, and the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation, amongst others. Her and her husband Bart, also founded the Giving Back Forum in 2019 bringing many non-profits together to share their missions and programming. Kristina and her husband Bart through Henderson Promos just donated 100,000 PPE masks. They are on a mission to distribute them to food banks and non-profits across five states
When listening to Kristina share the answer to 'if I knew then what I know now" you will hear a resounding theme. Truly all about confidence, believing in yourself, and not listening to the noise that sometimes surrounds us.
Thank you to Kristina for sharing her journey. We wish Kristina good luck as she heads to Las Vegas to compete for the Mrs. American National title!
On the next episode of Today is the Day Changemakers, I welcome Andrea Plaza, Founder & Chief Storyteller of Andrea Plaza, LLC. The title of the episode is Let Your Passion Drive Your Purpose. I am so excited to share this next episode as it also speaks to why people are put in our path.

Sucharita Tyagi is Not 'Just' A Film Critic
A great thing about this age of the internet is that we get to voice a point-of-view, as well as create content around it. But, can the point-of-view be expanded into larger pieces of content? A category of content creator that has seen it's ups and downs, from a period of being too diplomatic, where it became all about numbers and not about the piece of content being reviewed, to a more recent time, which has seen a crop of voices come up that do put a strong and engaging point-of-view across, is the movie critic.
One such critic, who Varun has been following for a while, is Sucharita Tyagi, the film critic and voice behind Film Companion's 'Not A Movie Review'.
On this episode, Varun tries to look into the mindset of a critic and how she creates content around it.
