    The Explosion of Barbenheimer

    The Explosion of Barbenheimer

Halfway through the year and halfway through the baseball season, the Gents put too much into Randy Arozarena to win the Home Run Derby (1:50) only to come up short in the finale against Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who made history to win the event in Seattle. After salutations from EstoBro and TV, the latter shares his recent rewind of binging an MCU marathon and the collective recognizing the ripple effect of the franchise giant and what grasp it has on its audience (18:00). EstoBro recognizes that these comic book films have saturated the modern-day movie star, as the pair debate different movie stars and films that have been released recently are overshadowed by the burden of the superhero being more important than the individual playing them. The debate over movies transcends into the summer blockbusters that are about to take place between Barbie and Oppenheimer on July 21st of this year (41:45). A major film event that has put the internet into a frenzy, the Gents dissect the magnitude of both of these films and their major significance with their deep-rooted history in culture. The Gents round out the final moments of the show by discussing the latest addition in anime (58:10), with EstoBro finally catching up with Demon Slayer and TV getting hype for the newest season of Jujutsu Kaisen debuting not too long ago. The oversharing of the prior topic on film has the Gents considering having an episode dedicated to manga and anime...perhaps they will have some old friends on the panel to hold discussions on the topic

Vladdy Crowned MLB's Home Run King + Waiting on Willy

Vladdy Crowned MLB's Home Run King + Waiting on Willy

Good morning, grinders! Brent Gunning and Sam McKee kick off the show by discussing Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s victory at the Home Run Derby, William Nylander’s contract stalemate, how Alex DeBrincat’s new deal might impact Nylander’s negotiations, and why this current generation of Maple Leafs stars are reticent to take a hometown discount. Later, the guys sift through the text line to shout out some fellow grinders - the early birds that work hard and endure long hours (40:54).

Flag Does Not Freedom without Sports

Flag Does Not Freedom without Sports

The return of TV to the podcast prompts EstoBro to reward him for a fully tailored sports program, and it starts with the epic disaster that featured Zion Williamson and his mistress that was former adult film star Moriah Mills (2:00). The hilarity of the basketball drama spills over post the cold opening that indeed TV is ok after watching his Miami Heat lose in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets (12:45). A well-deserved first franchise title to Mile High only means that the subsequent two events occur for the NBA: the draft and free agency, where the Gents break down the events that have carried on so far. With July rolling in, we are halfway through the regular baseball season in the MLB (30:15), and EstoBro has a full report on why you should be watching. The details include possible Shoehei Ohtani rumors of testing free agency, what Tampa Bay Rays made the All-Star (post the release of this episode, Wander Franco was selected as an injury replacement for the American League), and who is leading each division respectively as the hosts pick favorites for the playoffs. Enough time has passed and the Gents also wanted to shed light on the merger between the PGA and LIV Golf Tour (57:45). As much as this is controversial to the American golf fan, this opens up the opportunity for golf to become a more respected game internationally rather than an elitist club reserved for the rich. Sports episodes are certainly better than having smaller segments for each episode. If this works out, we might be dropping a monthly sports segment rather than discussing what is going on in the sporting world. We're fans too, ya know? Like, listen, subscribe, and share the show with fellow sports fans, especially the one's that like to talk about everything we discuss on the program!

    Synagogue of Baseball

    Synagogue of Baseball

We agree with Fernando Tatis, Jr. when he says, “who doesn’t love Ha-Seong Kim?” Max Muncy flexes his dad power. Pottymouth’s weekly Kiké mention is really about the ceremonial first pitch of his model cousin Sofía Jirau. Last Friday’s Hammers vs Os game, with Max Fried vs. Dean Kremer, was the 5th time in MLB history with two Jewish starting pitchers. The High A Hillsboro Hops (with manager Ronnie Gajownik) vs. Vancouver Canadians (Ashley Stephenson position coach) series brought us women in uniform on both sides of the field. Our Police Blotter features a conversation of when is a flub really a flub as we discuss the suspension of Glen Kuiper, As broadcaster, for his on-air racial slur. We highlight the international asshattery of Trevor Bauer, and the multiple plunkings of Arozarena. Bryce Harper and Jose Altuve come back quickly, and Liam Hendriks shines in a rehab start. Justine Siegal piles on the impressive firsts by adding “first woman to coach in LMB.” Our pre-season predictions predictably stink.

We say, “It’s perfectly acceptable for Arozarena to do his pose at third WHEN HE HITS A TRIPLE,” “Dad to dad baton thing,” and “I bet *he* can rollerblade and not pull anything.” Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Tommy & Jimmy-  baseball jobs lost, offered & pizza

1:45  - Germain gives us a deep dive into the Tampa Bay Rays farm system & who is coming up

2:50 – MiLBy awards – Rays Winners, Taj Bradley –

3:22 Taj Bradley has strong mound presence
Bradley reminds Mat of Shane Baz
xFIP explained - (Fielding Independent Pitching)

5:25 – Colby White ascends the Rays farm ladder through 4 levels in 2021. Could make a strong difference with the Rays pitching in next year.

6:04 – Depth of the Farm system reduces dependence on paying top dollar to experienced players.

6:45 – Most teams need a plethora of pitchers. Rays were strong with their pitcher depth compared to other teams. Not overtaxing the arms.

8:22 – Shane McClanahan – big ask to perform again so quickly in postseason

9:20 – Durham Bulls – MiLB Team of the Year. Mat takes on Baseball America staff on value of the Durham Bulls.

10:40 – Braves, their GM was courageous

11:00 – Arizona Fall League (AFL) – Scorpions – great games but not available to be seen. Why not?“  . . . a 6 team All-Star League”

12:00 - Curtis Mead, very close to being a major league hitter. Will the Rays trade him?

13:00 – Matt Dyer & Rich Hill trades with the Mets.

13:30 – TB Rays, Carlos Garcia – made AFL All-Star game

14:15 – How to break into the Rays Pen

14:45 – Joey Wendle – will the Rays keep this high quality and versatile player?
Other options – Keep Taylor Walls & possibly trade Vidal Brujan.
Joey Wendle brings the work ethic and commitment to the job.
Kevin Kiermaier, shouldn’t he be awarded thee Golden Glove award this year. Was something slowing him down early last season.

18:00 – CBA status – Collective Bargaining Agreement expires soon. How is this impacting team ownership on their decisions to sign, extend or trade this week. What are the Rays doing to the exterior of the Trop.

18:35 – Rays have taken down the images of the Rays on the outside of Tropicana Field. Dark dirge being played early?  Let’s avoid the 1994 & 1995

    20:00 – Truly – “Who’s on First?”
Where is First Base Coach Ozzie Timmons?
Third Base Coach Rodney Linaires is managing a Dominican League team that has Pujols as a team player.

22:00 – Rays need a seasoned veteran player leader with the team like Nelson Cruz, Albert Pujols, Rich Hill.

24:45 – Tampa Bay Rays Free Agents who should the front office bring back? Collin McHugh, Michael Wacha.
Loss of Charlie Morton cost the Rays money, wins and leadership for young arms.
Shane McClanahan – “I’m a Rookie”  - sounded like a need for help.

28:30 – Stu’s tight purse strings restricted Erik Neander from building a stronger team

29:50 – Mat’s Favorite GM’s – Alex Anthopoulos & Erik Neander – courage to change the face of the franchise to empower your team.

32:00 – Mark’s Rays team – who he wants back. Nate Eovaldi, Charlie Morton, Hunter Renfroe, d’Arnaud

34:25 – Mike Zunino – Rays rather smartly re-signed Zunino. He is the forgotten man when it comes to catchers across MLB. “Zunino behind the plate  . . he calls a great game” Will the Rays bring up Pinto this year to study under Zunino.

38:30 – Rookie of the Year, Randy Arozarena and Wander Franco are nominees. Franco is the best switch hitter since Chipper Jones.

Pottymouth Has Never Seen High School Musical

Pottymouth Has Never Seen High School Musical

The return of our baseball boyfriend segment leads to the discovery of an unfortunate vacuum in Pottymouth’s pop culture experience.  She’s never seen High School Musical, and it shows. “Hair guy” Cole Tucker, her choice for Pirates BF, is also Vanessa Hudgens choice for BF, and we are all in this together. Patti goes for Anthony Alford based heavily on his work with the Player’s Alliance and other social justice issues. Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Leody Taveras are our Ranger pics for the coming year.

Randy Arozarena is arrested for and subsequently released after allegedly trying to remove his daughter from her mother’s home, and assaulting his ex-father-in-law in the process. This leads to a what do we do with the T shirt conversation that we have way too often when players we absolutely fall in love with are accused of abuse but never investigated to a conclusion. For now, the Randy shirt is hanging with the Omar shirt in the bottom drawer until further notice. On a related note, LIDOM is conveniently concentrating such players all on one team, the Toros del Este, for your convenience.

The Player’s Alliance takes their work to the streets, partnering with Pull Up Neighbor to bring baseball equipment, fresh produce and shelf-stable food, and PPE to underserved neighborhoods across the country.

MLB continues to muck up the minor leagues by turning the NY-Penn league into a “Draft League” to showcase players who can afford to play for free, and converting the Pioneer League into an independent “Partner League” with a promise of some pathway to the majors, and maybe some start up money. Meanwhile, the Charlotte Knights continue to innovate to create some income, converting their suites into office space overlooking the field, for WFH people to rent by day or week to become Work From Homeplate people. Look elsewhere for your baseball -- the LBPRC is kicking off this week with four teams, including Roberto Alomar’s RA12 which has some unusual ideas.

Houston Astros #6 Prospect, Hunter Brown / Episode 29

Houston Astros #6 Prospect, Hunter Brown / Episode 29

Special thank you for 5,000 downloads!!!! We love and appreciate everybody who listens and has checked out this baseball podcast especially our guests, getting to know baseball talent and personal stories that mainstream media isn't covering is so intriguing.

    Intro:
Tommy Pham sues a strip club (during a global pandemic lmao)
Cubs give Kris Bryant a contract
     Universal DH debate!
     Randy Arozarena's charges dropped
     Tim Tebow finessed another contract

This episode's interview {21:15} features Houston Astros #6 Prospect, Hunter Brown! Hunter Brown is a starting pitcher with some serious heat! We begin by uncovering the misconceptions about being a DII player in college, and the key to finding success in that scenario. Hunter played at Wayne State, located outside of Detroit, Michigan, yet played his way into being a 5th round pick in the 2019 draft. "If you have talent, people will find you!" Hunter enlightens us when he realized he could throw hard, and talks about that "special feeling" when hitting 100 on the gun!
