A Sabbath Rest For An Anxious World

A Sabbath Rest For An Anxious World
Do you need a break? Are you feeling stressed, worn out and overwhelmed? Let’s face it... We’re living in a world filled with ever-increasing demands on our time and attention. Children need to be fed, clothes washed, and bills paid. Commuting is stressful. And there’s on-the-job pressure, deadlines, and conflict. Many are working harder than ever, only to find it more difficult to make ends meet. And when they try to unwind, escapism often leads to addictions, anxiety, and more conflict. Our relationships suffer. Our health suffers. Real solutions seem beyond our reach. If you’re suffering from the anxiety of living in the modern world, you’re not alone. According to the “Anxiety and Depression Association of America”, 18.1% of the population 18 or older suffers from some type of anxiety disorder every year. That’s 40 million adults. (“Facts and Statistics,” ADAA.org, accessed June 29, 2021). But it’s not just in America. According to the “Our World In Data” website, “Globally an estimated 284 million people experienced an anxiety disorder in 2017.” (“Mental Health,” OurWorldInData.org, April 2018). Clearly, many of us are feeling overwhelmed. Is this how our Creator designed our life to be? If we’re anxious and depressed, how can we get out of that discouraging and even dangerous cycle? There is an answer. And people around the world are discovering it. Would you like to know a secret that can turn your life around? There is a way to find peace in a troubled world. And today on Tomorrow’s World, we’re going to dive into that topic, to find the source of that peace. In a little while, I’m going to give you an opportunity to order our free literature, Which Day is the Christian Sabbath? It will open your eyes to the surprising truth about a key to peace and tranquility in an anxious world.

    Lord of the Sabbath

    Lord of the Sabbath

Part 3 in the series, "Entering God's Rest" (July 2019). In the final message on entering Gods' rest, we look at what Sabbath rest means for the Christian in light of their relationship with Jesus. When Jesus says, "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest," what does he mean? The answer comes from learning about Jesus' understanding of the Sabbath, his observance of the Sabbath, and his declaration that he is "Lord of the Sabbath." Christians have a unique opportunity to enter God's rest in a way that no one before the coming of the Messiah could enjoy. Rest in Christ promises a life empowered by his finished work: a life of love, grace. restoration, and fullness. But he must become Lord of our Sabbath before this rest can occur.

    Rest Areas

    Rest Areas

Part 2 of the series, "Entering God's Rest" (July 2019). As developed in Part 1 of this series, Christians aren't required to observe the Sabbath in the ways Israel was in the Old Testament, but Hebrews 4 does encourage us to strive to enter into God's rest. This message suggests practical ways we can do so. Like the relief we felt when our parents pulled off the interstate on summer vacations to stop and regroup at a rest area, there are many rest areas we can enjoy with God as well. These rest areas are accessed by first detaching from our own works (or the things that pull us away from focusing on God as our Creator and Provider), and then attaching to the things of the Spirit. Disciplining ourselves to regularly pull off to the side of the road in our daily lives to rest in God will give us strength and purpose for life's journey.

Gathering 162: “Advent Hope – Sabbath Rest”

Gathering 162: “Advent Hope – Sabbath Rest”

Rest. For you. For the earth. Shabbat reminds us of our rightful place to the rest of God's creation. Shabbat chastises us for forgetting that the land does not belong to us. We belong to each other. Therein lies our HOPE. Join us today as Pastor Tony reflects on restoring HOPE by accepting our own and nature’s limitations. Reflect on the wisdom of the ancients and discover how cutting back and downsizing your mental and physical activities can improve the quality of your life which in turn will restore a right relationship with the Earth. In such a time as this, rediscover your sense of HOPE to gift to others (and the Earth) now and into the new year.

    Finding real rest in God

    Finding real rest in God

How often do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with life, reacting to your life as it passes by rather than living it?  Do you ever wonder if you will make it?  We live in an age where pressure and stress are on the rise and we seem to be helpless to stop it.  In reality, as humans, we are largely helpless to put an end to the chaos of life.  There is good news however.  The Psalmist states:  "My soul, find rest in God alone".  These words give us hope that there is an answer to the pressures of life.  In this message we find that God has designed us for periods of rest but that rest may be different than we normally think.  Listen in to be encouraged that God has a plan for you to rest and make it over your whole life - living rather than reacting to all that life throws at you.
