(Rewind): When You’re Afraid Of Getting Too Invested Too Quickly…
What do you do if you fall for someone too fast? Or you find yourself waiting by the phone for their next text?

If this happens to you frequently, it can be a sign of bigger issues to do with (a) your confidence, or (b) your perception of someone you're attracted to.

In this clip, Matt and the team discuss how to avoid this trap and invest in a way that makes sure you protect yourself when you fall in love.

648: Why Winners Quit: The 5 Factors to Leaving a Soul-Sucking Job w/Pat Hiban and Tim Rhode

648: Why Winners Quit: The 5 Factors to Leaving a Soul-Sucking Job w/Pat Hiban and Tim Rhode
Quitting your job is a big decision and it doesn’t always lead to the perfect outcome—at least not immediately. Most people think that you have to be miserable or make very little money to want to quit a job, but even high earners still find themselves struggling to attend their nine-to-fives. Pat Hiban is the perfect example. He quit during his prime even as he was making a high income and after owning his own company. Regardless of all the respect, responsibility, and ability to make phenomenal income, it just wasn't enough for Pat. You may be feeling the same. Maybe you’re daydreaming about multifamily investing as you sit at work, or picturing the perfect vacation rental property on your commute. Whatever your reason, quitting might be the best move for you to make, but only if it’s the right time. Don’t worry if you’re struggling with decision fatigue, Pat and fellow quitter Tim Rhode just came out with their newest book, The Quitter’s Manifesto: Quit a Job You Hate for the Work You Love. In it, Pat and Tim give stories and tools that will help you on your path to building wealth while leaving a job that you hate. The resources you’ll find in this book are exactly what our very own David Greene used when deciding to quit his highly lucrative, but mentally draining job as a police officer. If you’ve been sitting on the fence, not knowing the next step to take in your career, this book may be exactly what you need. In This Episode We Cover: How to quit your job and start investing in real estate full-time The five factors of a soul-sucking job and how to evaluate whether or not it’s time to jump ship Finding the "quitter’s trapeze” that can help you transition from W-2 to self-employed worker Building your team of quitters who will hold you accountable and take you to the next level of your career What it looks like when you’re ready to quit and how to emotionally prepare for the impact And So Much More! If You Feel LOST, LAZY & UNMOTIVATED In Life, WATCH THIS! | David Goggins
When it comes to mental toughness, discipline, and being hardcore like no other, very few people can stand with absolute confidence. By now, you’ve realized how hard life is. Maybe your future didn’t work out the way you and your family expected. Maybe you’re convinced the world you grew up in is hostile, dark and heartless towards someone like you. Living with a victim mindset isn’t going to change your situation. Learning how to meet yourself where you are and stare at your inadequacies with total and radical honesty may be the most difficult thing you ever do, but perhaps it’s the only way out of the messed up life you’re living now. David Goggins, former Navy Seal, ultra marathon runner, athlete and total badass knows what it takes to build a level of mental toughness very few people truly know about. His radical approach to building himself from an overweight “nobody” to one of the toughest people alive makes many people uncomfortable, but inspires the heck out of many more. Stoicism 101 | Nancy Sherman

    Stoicism 101 | Nancy Sherman
You may have heard about stoicism, in the common parlance, as having a stiff upper lip, sucking it up, grinning and bearing it, suppressing your emotions, etcetera. Or you may have heard of Stoicism, the ancient Greco-Roman philosophy, that has become the de rigeur set of life hacks among millennial self-optimizers. In this episode, guest Nancy Sherman argues that Stoicism is way deeper than any of that. She will argue that, in fact, Stoicism is kind of the opposite of all the above. It’s a way to truly know your patterns of thought and emotion. Nancy is a Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University. She is an expert in ethics, the history of moral philosophy, moral psychology, military ethics, and emotions. Her most recent book is called Stoic Wisdom: Ancient Lessons for Modern Resilience. In this conversation we cover the basics of Stoicism, how and why capital “S” Stoicism is often misinterpreted, a meditation practice called “premeditation of evils” (which is far more practical than it may sound), and another practice designed to make you feel “at home in the world." Please note: This interview includes a brief reference to suicide.  Download the Ten Percent Happier app today: https://10percenthappier.app.link/install Full Shownotes: https://www.tenpercent.com/podcast-episode/nancy-sherman-382 See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Dr. Sandro Formica - Living Life on Your Own Terms

Dr. Sandro Formica - Living Life on Your Own Terms

Today's guest is my wonderful friend, Dr. Sandro Formica. Sandro and I met at the World Happiness Summit, and naturally we bonded over our shared mission of spreading and legitimizing the pursuit and study of happiness and fulfillment. Sandro has taken an unconventional path in academia and life, living every day in full commitment to his Life Purpose. He lives to get others to this point, increasing individual and organizational performance based on applied, scientific evidence. He teaches "The Science of Happiness and Personal Empowerment" at Florida International University.

As you'll hear in the conversation, Sandro radiates that easygoing, wise Italian vibe. His anecdotes about his mother are both heartwarming and hilarious. He is a joy to speak with and listen to, and his insights and wisdom will lead you to take a close look at whether or not you're living the life and doing the work that your needs, values, and purpose want you to do.

    Listen as we discuss:

    • How his first thought during quarantine was: "I wish I could hug mama."
    • How the COVID-19 pandemic affected his native Italy (which at the time of recording was a disastrous situation) vs. Miami, his home.
    • The realization that out of the roughly 20,000 hours we receive of fundamental education from preschool through high school, we can barely remember 10% of it.
    • How we can measure the intangible by gauging how much our needs are being fulfilled, and the firm truth that having our needs met will lead to a basic happiness.
    • The needs not being met by the pandemic: Safety, socializing, touch.
    • The question: Why is the feeling of having your needs met based on subjective perception? Some people have it all and feel unsafe, and yet others are as vulnerable as it gets and feel safe and secure.
    • A small mention of squirrels, again, because apparently everyone thinks they're awesome.
    • How Sandro would calm someone going through a lockdown induced panic
    • How it's crucial to align your work and life plan with your values, needs, and purpose, in that order.
    • How Sandro was living life and getting a PhD in a field he didn't really care about in order to gain his mother's approval, only to realize he didn't really know himself.
    • The timeless value and curative power of vulnerability.

Episode 19 -- Sin and Transgression

Episode 19 -- Sin and Transgression

In archery, sin refers to missing the mark, whereas transgression involves violation of a cultural boundary. But missing the mark or crossing a line can have positive effects as well as negative consequences.

    The dream:

I am outside, in the yard of an old, but well-maintained house. The house is off-white, but I couldn’t say if it was gray off-white or beige off-white. There are other people here but I don’t pay them much attention because I am looking at my left hand. It has been injured—the skin across my knuckles has been torn and crudely stitched up. The skin is buckled between stitches and several are infected. I think to myself, no wonder things are a mess!
