Lessons from an Antagonist with Chosen Actor Brandon Potter

Lessons from an Antagonist with Chosen Actor Brandon Potter

On this episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager sits down with actor Brandon Potter to discuss the lessons he's learned playing the antagonist character Quintus in the hit TV series "The Chosen". The conversation delves into how viewers can relate to the character and the importance of being a part of something bigger than oneself. They explore the power of the show in bringing people together and the message of gathering with others to achieve growth through shared experiences. Tune in to learn how an unlikely teacher can offer unexpected perspectives.

Brandon Potter is an actor best known for his role as Quintus in the popular show The Chosen. A Texas native and lifelong storyteller, his voice can be heard in hundreds of cartoons, video games, audiobooks, podcasts, and commercials. On-screen credits include the feature film Little Woods, starring Tessa Thompson, a guest role in Special (Netflix Series), and commercial work for brands like State Farm, American Airlines, and more. He got his acting chops as a company member of the Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center where he starred as President LBJ in All the Way, and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol among many others. Current projects include producing the SAG feature film Final Dress, a teen slasher set in a summer theater camp, which addresses sexual assault in the live theater world.

In an interview with Flourish-Meant, Potter shares his insights on playing the antagonist to Jesus, and how he approaches empathizing with his character rather than judging him. He also talks about the importance of being a part of something bigger than oneself and the value of seeing people come together for a common cause. Brandon hopes that viewers of The Chosen will take away the message of gathering together with others to share and be a part of something open and inclusive.

A Love Letter to Associations | Ep #26

A Love Letter to Associations | Ep #26

This episode is a love letter to associations and the work they do on behalf of members on a daily basis.

As I work with association professionals who are making tough decisions and pivoting daily, what I see is that members are grateful for leadership and guidance. Once members look to you for advice and support in difficult times, they will look to you again. The result is that even as you navigate these rough waters internally, you have the opportunity to enhance your value proposition for your members externally.

In addition to hearing about what associations are doing for members, I’m also hearing wonderful things about the staff members who are pivoting, innovating, and scrambling. Your work is not going unnoticed.

Flipping America 349, Next Steps for Real Estate Investing During a Pandemic, Pt 1

Flipping America 349, Next Steps for Real Estate Investing During a Pandemic, Pt 1

It’s hard to find an opportunity to talk about anything OTHER than the pandemic right now. This week we begin mentally taking control of our destinies by making a conscious choice to move forward while taking every precaution recommended by local state and federal authorities. We will make progress mentally, virtually, and this will translate soon to real life.

Thursday night we did a second call in our series on real estate investing during a pandemic. Our guest panel was Jeff Holst, Darlene Coquerel, and Michael Green, three prolific investors and mentors with a high volume of flips and rental properties between them. We discussed a number of questions facing landlords and house flippers and dug in to find ways we can continue to make a living in real estate during these challenging times.

Your Questions: Send emails to questions@rogerblankenship.com

    • Wanda, Villages of Ocala, FL “Our rentals have been doing very well but we are concerned that during the pandemic our income may completely dry up. How are you handling this in your business? What can we do?”
    • Martin, Alexandria, VA, “Our fixing and flipping business has been running on all cylinders this year and we really haven’t seen any slowing yet, but I’m growing concerned about the short-term future. I have six properties with hard money loans right now and if I can’t get the work done on them, I’ll be out of business. I’d appreciate your thoughts.”
    • Fabriana, PIttsburg, PA “I’m struggling to get crews to show up and city inspectors to come to the job site. Everyone is overwhelmed, but so am I. If I can’t finish my two properties I will lose everything.”
    • Carissa, Milwaukee, WI “I’ve been on the phone with my tenants and although I have a friendly relationship with all of them, a couple of them have said some pretty rough things to me. Accusing me of greed, exploitation, one even called me a corrupt b---. I don’t want to get into arguments with them - that seems pointless, but I also don’t want to just take it. How do you handle this?”

    Motivational Thoughts for the day

Episode 47: Getting Involved in Local Government with Susan Sandberg

Episode 47: Getting Involved in Local Government with Susan Sandberg
Are you like Deb and get your political aspirations from the movie, "Legally Blonde?" Don't judge! That movie is chock full of sound advice. From animal rights to Elle Woods telling Congress to "Speak up! Use your voice!" This is YOUR community. There's a difference between being a part of the community and just living in it. This episode of At Home in Bloomington encourages you to be an active part and a voice of the community, rather than just a bystander. Everyone can be involved. And everyone's voice deserves to be heard. (Elle Woods said so!) In this episode, we talk with Susan Sandberg, who has served our community as an at-large council member on the Bloomington City Council since 2007. Did you know our city council relies on active, passionate people to let them know what’s important to them? Everything they vote on has a public comment so you can let your voice be heard. And there are tons of vacancies on boards and commissions, just looking for citizens to lend their voice. Learn more about getting involved in local government, whether it's just attending city council meetings or serving on an advisory committee, on episode 47 of At Home in Bloomington, because, as Elle Woods says, "If we lose our voice...well then this country is in for a really bad haircut."

Also, we throw back to At Home in Bloomington Episode 15, the Monroe County Extension office. An important resource for making your life better in Monroe County. One of the resources they offer is an educational program called Citizens' Academy where Monroe County residents can get a behind the scenes look at county government. And it's free! And in our REAL-List segment, Deb talks about what to expect from your realtor when your home is listed for sale and how the seller plays a vital role in a successful sale.
