    63. How Many Prep Resources are Too Many Prep Resources? [Mailbag]

It's easy to feel like more is better when it comes to preparing for your standardized test. More instructional videos. More practice problems. Another book. Another course.

But the reality is that more is not always better on high-stakes exams, as it can lead to uncertainty -- and therefore wrong answers -- during the time pressure of test day. Instead, we explain in this episode why it's important to have "one voice" as you're learning the underlying content and test-taking strategies in preparation for your exam. We also tell you how to find that voice and make recommendations for resources you can trust.

    61. Priorities if You're Short on Study Time [Mailbag]

It seems like there's never enough time to do all the things we want to in life. That can be especially true when it comes to preparing for your standardized test. You're busy: job, family, school, hobbies, etc. And yet, you need to carve out sufficient time to study effectively for your exam. But how?

That's exactly the concern submitted by one of our students, Madeline, who wrote: "I am concerned about having enough time to study. I work full time (most weeks, more than 40 hrs a week)...and the math is a lot to take in and relearn.”

    Sound familiar?

In this "mailbag" episode we address Madeline's hang-up and provide practical prep tips for students who fall into one of two categories:

    1. You don't have a lot of time to prepare for your standardized test because you're scheduled to take it in just a few weeks (or even days!);
    2. Your test date is still a ways off, but your days are super busy and you're not sure where you're going to find the time to fit in adequate studying.

In a perfect world, you'd be able to drop everything and devote 100% of your time over the next couple months preparing for your exam. But that's not realistic. Yet, it's still possible to get a great score even if you're limited on study time -- provided you prioritize the right things and structure your study sessions optimally. By the end of this episode, you'll know how.

TMJ 073: USMLE Step 3 - How To Keep Up With Your Study Schedule

How do you keep up with your USMLE Step 3 Schedule?

I am studying and preparing for Step 3 and a lot has changed since my first video and how I planned to tackle it. Hours and in my rotations and time in the hospital has forced me to make changes in my study schedule, number of questions reviewed for UWORLD per day, taking on a new resource and others.

Not everything is going to plan but others have and I want to show premeds and most especially med students and residents prepping for Step 3 that even as your initial study plan doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to adjust as test day approaches.

In this video, I give you an update on Step 3, what’s working and is not working, and what my new plan looks like.

What are you doing to prepare for the test!? Is there something you’d do differently!?

TMJ 070: How To Get Better Grades In Medical School Using Just One Tip

TMJ 070: How To Get Better Grades In Medical School Using Just One Tip

How do you get better grades in medical school with just one tip!?

Med students use many strategies to study, memorize and prepare for tests and rotations to up their grades. Some listen to lectures and take down notes, and call themselves prepared. Others use apps and other tools like Anki and flashcards to get them ready. And still others look for inspirational boost from a video or a quote to keep them going for the aspired 4.0 GPA.

These study motivational techniques are great and work a lot better than others. But if you want to drill down to just one tip to help you get better grades, then, learn how to get comfortable in failing and use a timer.

This is a med school study tip that I used to help me graduate with honors, and has helped my students improve their grades. It may sound strange or feel uncomfortable at first, as with most new strategies, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction to better retention, understanding of the lessons and higher grades!

The best part about this is; you are not too late or even too early to start using this so if you’re a pre-med you can do this too

Check out this one tip to help you get better grades in med school on this episode of the TMJ show!
