(Rewind): "You Need To Be Happy Alone Before You Date"...Truth or Myth?

    enFebruary 24, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Myth of self-sufficiency before loveHealthy relationships can start while individuals are still growing and learning, bringing out the best in us and helping us heal.

The idea of being completely happy and self-sufficient before entering a relationship is a myth. Instead, it's important to recognize that we are always growing and learning, and the right person can play a significant role in our personal growth and healing. It's also important to remember that not everyone who suggests this idea has necessarily followed it themselves. Ultimately, healthy relationships can and do start while individuals are still working on themselves. The right person can bring out the best in us and help us heal in ways we might not have been able to on our own.

    • Finding contentment in relationshipsAiming for 'happy enough' in relationships allows us to appreciate the present moment, embrace healthy connections, and walk away from unhealthy ones.

Being "happy enough" is a more attainable goal than striving for constant happiness. When we find someone who creates a safe environment for growth and healing, we can begin to relax and be ourselves, allowing us to enjoy relationships without fear of losing ourselves or being unhappy. Being happy enough means acknowledging that life isn't perfect and we won't always be happy, but we're content with where we are and who we are today. This robustness allows us to walk away from unhealthy relationships and fully embrace healthy ones. Happy enough also means being able to enjoy the present moment without fear of loss or existential anxiety. Overall, the idea of being happy enough is a healthier and more attainable mindset for approaching relationships and life in general.

Do you ever find yourself getting attracted to people who are unavailable (emotionally or otherwise)? Treat you poorly? Or simply aren’t interested in you?

Why does this happen? Why do we conveniently keep getting attracted to the least convenient people?

It can be deeply frustrating, especially when there might be someone who does like us but who we just don’t want.

In this episode, I explain two fundamental reasons why this keeps happening.

At the end of this video, I give you a practical “mind trick” you can do on yourself to change this...

(Rewind): Don’t Avoid Difficult Conversations In Relationships. Do THIS…

(Rewind): Don’t Avoid Difficult Conversations In Relationships. Do THIS…
Sometimes we avoid speaking up about what we really want with a person because we're afraid we will "make waves" in the relationship.

We come from a place of fear and anxiety. "What if me telling him I want something to be different makes him walk away altogether?" we think to ourselves.

So we ignore the conversation and silently suffer.

But then nothing gets better. We just put off the conversation for another day while time keeps moving on.
If this is you, this episode is for you.

(Matt Monday): Long Distance Relationship? AVOID This Mistake
Have you ever wondered how you can move on from someone you never dated? Perhaps you’ve been pining for them for months (or even years) . . . hoping they’ll finally notice you and see your value.

This great question is one of 7 I answer in today’s new episode, based on the comments you left me last week. I also dig into topics like:

    • What’s the best way to start a long-distance relationship?
    • What’s your dating advice for people over 40?
    • Why did they change their mind about being ready for a relationship?

Don’t miss these, and once you’re done, be sure to send an email to podcast@matthewhussey.com with a question you’d like me to answer next time!

(Rewind): Do You Feel You’re Giving Too Much in Relationships?

What do you do when you’re a giving person but you feel like your kindness gets taken advantage of in relationships? Maybe you feel like you’re always the one trying and then your resentment builds up until one day you explode in anger.

In this video, I show you why we get trapped in the curse of people pleasing, how to set appropriate boundaries, and how to ask for what you need from someone you’re dating.

Enabler defined is someone or something that encourages or enables negative or self-destructive behavior in another. The irony is most enablers don't mean any harm. Nevertheless, them "being there" for the one they love prevents their loved one from discovering their own power and walking in its authority. God is not an enabler.

In this episode, Suzette exposes the crutches that keep people of faith from doing their part in resolving their relationships challenges. And offers them a broader vantagepoint from which to see God's help and love.

How to get over a situationship and find your soulmate

How to get over a situationship and find your soulmate

Situationships are the HARDEST to get over, from my perspective. Why? Because you're left feeling like you've had no proper closure, you couldn't live out the potential you've built in your mind about the relationship, and it can feel like the "what if" lingers over your head for a long period of time. In this episode, I cover how to properly move on from a situationship, why you deserve the absolute most out of life and your relationships, and how to find the person of your dreams. You don't need to settle any more.
