The Other Side of Perspective... DO THE WORK - Day 208

    enFebruary 26, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Perspective shapes our realityWhat seems easy or enjoyable to one person might be hard work or insignificant to another, and everyone's unique perspective shapes their reality

Perspective plays a significant role in how we perceive and value different experiences. What seems enjoyable and effortless to one person might appear as hard work or insignificant to another. For instance, moving chickens around in the backyard was an enjoyable task for me, but someone else saw it as hard work. Similarly, the number of listeners to my podcast seemed small to me in comparison to larger podcasts, but it was a considerable achievement for someone who wasn't podcasting. Lastly, even successful people have their own challenges and desires, like the CEO who wished he could do pull-ups despite his accomplishments. Therefore, it's essential to remember that everyone experiences things differently and that our unique perspectives shape our reality.

    • The power of perspectiveShifting our perspective can help us feel better about ourselves and our progress. Focus on reality and be proud of accomplishments, no matter the size.

Our perspective plays a significant role in how we view our progress and achievements. The examples given illustrate how different perspectives can lead to vastly different feelings about the same situation. It's easy to focus on what we can't do or what we haven't achieved, but shifting our perspective and considering the opposite view can help us feel better about ourselves and our progress. Additionally, the goals we set for ourselves should be based on reality and not unattainable expectations. Comparing ourselves to others or unrealistic standards can lead to disappointment and frustration. Instead, we should focus on our own progress and be proud of our accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. By adopting a more positive and realistic perspective, we can improve our mindset and find happiness in our journey, rather than constantly focusing on what we lack or haven't achieved yet.

    • See things from a different perspectiveInstead of focusing on obstacles, flip your perspective and find opportunities for growth and learning

Perspective plays a significant role in how we view and approach our goals and challenges. It's easy to get discouraged when things don't go as planned or when we feel overwhelmed by the obstacles in our way. But instead of focusing on what we can't control or what we don't have, we should try to see things from a different perspective. Perhaps the goal we set out to achieve wasn't feasible given the time frame or resources we had. But instead of getting frustrated, we can look at it as an opportunity to learn and grow. We can also consider the perspective of others who might be envious of our position or opportunities. Moreover, it's essential to remember that setbacks and challenges are a natural part of life. Rather than dwelling on them, we should focus on what we can control and do the work required to move forward. By maintaining a positive attitude and being thankful for what we have, we can overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. In essence, perspective is a powerful tool that can help us navigate life's ups and downs. By flipping our perspective and looking at things from a different angle, we can find new opportunities and approaches to overcome challenges and achieve success. So, be nice to yourself and others, stay thankful, and keep pushing forward.

What Did You Do About It?

Next time you want to blame someone else for being ____ ask yourself - what did I do about it?  We are quick to blame others when we could have done more or done things differently.  It's often partially our own fault, more than we would like to admit. Admit it and be better.

    Self-Talk

    Self-Talk

What is self-talk? Well, essentially, it’s talking to yourself, more specifically, the way in which you talk to yourself. Most times, it isn't positive and when we do engage in negative self-talk, we soon start to believe it for real and even worse, start acting on it.

In this podcast episode we discuss three ways to help you avoid negative self-talk.

After listening, feel free to send me a note letting me know how you plan to eliminate the self-talk in your life, so you can pursue the dreams and goals you have for yourself.
