The Stuff Isn't the Memory - Day 22... DO THE WORK - Day 404

    enSeptember 13, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Assess and let go of items that no longer bring joyRegularly evaluate possessions for joy, let go of items that no longer spark it, and focus on what truly matters.

It's important to regularly assess and declutter the items we accumulate over time, whether they are sentimental items from our past or material possessions like books and clothing. Marie Kondo, author of "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up," suggests that if an item no longer brings us joy, it has fulfilled its purpose and can be let go. This unique perspective can help us simplify our lives and reduce clutter, allowing us to focus on what truly matters. Additionally, the joy gained from receiving a gift or buying an item serves as its initial use, and if it no longer brings us joy, it's okay to let it go. This approach can be applied to various aspects of our lives, from sentimental items to material possessions.

    • Consider the ongoing joy and utility of objectsObjects bring more than just initial joy; ongoing utility and joy matter too. Let go of items that no longer serve a purpose or bring happiness.

The utility and value we derive from objects, whether material possessions or sentimental items, is not solely determined by their monetary cost or the initial joy they brought us. Instead, it's essential to consider the ongoing joy and use they bring to our lives. If an item no longer brings us joy or serves a purpose, it may be time to let go. This applies to both material possessions and sentimental items. For instance, a handmade gift from a loved one may bring immense joy during the creation and giving process, but as time passes, the giver may forget about it. However, the peak happiness experienced during the creation and giving of the gift is a significant win. Ultimately, it's essential to be mindful of the utility we derive from objects and consider whether they bring ongoing joy or if it's time to let go and make space for new experiences.

    • Let go of past attachments for present joyFocus on present joy by letting go of past attachments to objects, actions, and relationships that no longer bring happiness

It's important to evaluate the present value of objects, actions, and relationships from the past, and let go of those that no longer bring joy. This strategy, combined with focusing on living in the moment, can help simplify life and prioritize current happiness. The peak of joy and satisfaction is often found in the present moment, and trying to preserve moments through material possessions or memorabilia may not yield the same level of joy as experiencing them in the moment. By asking oneself if something brings joy in the present, it becomes easier to let go of past attachments and focus on the present. So, treasure experiences and relationships as they happen, and let go of the past when it no longer brings joy.

1670 The One Exercise Missing in Your Daily Routine

Living a healthy lifestyle encompasses physical and nutritional activities. But the one exercise missing in your daily routine might surprise you with health benefits that go beyond the gym.

Health seems to be the sum of physical and nutritional activities. The focus is on what you eat and how you move your body.

Now all of that is important. But is it really the only area of focus?

    NO!!

In fact, there is another way you can impact your health that takes less work, no sweat, but full of benefits.

Sign me up! If I don't need an extra shower and can sleep a few minutes longer, I'm all in!!!

This one exercise missing in your daily routine has benefits like:

    • Reduces stress
    • Improves our happiness or outlook on life.
    • Promotes self-awareness and mindfulness.
    • Improves memory.
    • Improves physical health.
    • Fosters self-discipline.
    • Enhances creativity.
    • Improves problem-solving skills.

Some might question, "What about weight loss?"

If you combine all of that goodness together, you will have your body on track to be relaxed where you can enjoy the journey of healthy living. You won't feel stressed out in the process of getting healthy or maintaining it. You will just do it!

So what is this one exercise missing in your daily routine?

    It's journaling!

The K.I.S.S. ~ Write your way to better health!

Already the grumbling begins. You were hoping for a different magic pill.

However, you will be amazed at how journaling can change your health for the better.

Most people are concerned about how to start writing? Where do you begin?

So here are some prompts to get you started.

    1. What are you grateful for?
    2. How did this day make you feel?
    3. How is your body reacting to your objective, goal, or purpose?
    4. What is working really well?
    5. What can you learn from this situation?
    6. What can you change for the better?
    7. What obstacle is most pressing?
    8. What is your intention/declaration for the day?

As your pen moves rapidly across the paper, don't judge or critique yourself. This is not the time for edits.

Just write with an open heart and an open mind.

You can always come back at another time to reflect on what you wrote.

Give yourself permission to experience a therapeutic revival. You're tapping in on all levels when you allow yourself to write freely and expressively.

E71: Learning to Let Go Interview w/ Dr. Diana Draper

E71: Learning to Let Go Interview w/ Dr. Diana Draper

A few weeks ago, I sat down with a dear friend, Dr. Diana Draper.

She has spent the last 10+ years on her educational journey, working tirelessly to become a naturopathic doctor and open her own private practice. A year ago, she made the bold decision to pause and step away from her private practice.

In this episode, we talk about pushing forward in the uncomfortable moments of life, how to break free from the titles that we link to our identities and how to honor and really listen to the signals that your body is sending you to help guide you through this life.

Sometimes in life, we get these key messages sent to us telling us that something is not in alignment; we aren’t happy with something and we either need to drop it or make a change around it. But it’s hard to listen to those messages because quite frankly, those choices are scary and we often aren’t ready to make those big decisions.

Diana shares what that process was for her when she was receiving signs that a big choice and change needed to happen within her life and the steps she took to get there.

It was such a raw and honest conversation and something I always appreciate about Diana is how open and vulnerable she is. I’m so excited to hear how Diana’s story impacts you.

I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do!

RANT- Meditation, Mindfulness; You DON'T Need it. Do This Instead [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

RANT- Meditation, Mindfulness; You DON'T Need it. Do This Instead [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

In this episode Rob acknowledges that mindfulness and meditation are the current trends but you DON’T need either! Instead he gives alternative tips to get you hyper focused on what you actually need to get the results and success you want.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Rob isn’t saying that meditation is a bad thing. It works incredibly well for some people and it may work for you in the future. But he points out the pressure to mediate and to do these various acts of mindfulness can actually add pressure where it isn’t needed and instead have an adverse effect on your results.

    • You just need to find your way of clearing your mind so that you can then focus on the things you want and need to, whether that be through writing, playing sport or anything else.

    BEST MOMENTS

“You’re at one with the thing”

“There are millions on the planet who haven’t had to meditate to be successful”

“If your mind is full of shit, you can’t”

“Mindfulness is being able to do nothing or one thing without distraction”
