What if I was WE... DO THE WORK - Day 349

    enAugust 11, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Starting a business with a partnerConsidering a business partnership can make starting a business less overwhelming by sharing workload and learning curve, allowing each person to focus on their strengths and expertise.

Starting a business or a side project can be a daunting task, and coming up with a viable idea can be challenging. When faced with this intimidating first step, considering starting a business with a partner can shift the dynamics and make the process less overwhelming. Instead of having to do everything alone, the workload and learning curve are shared, making it a different, yet still challenging game to play. Throughout my entrepreneurial journey, I have always run businesses by myself, which meant taking on all responsibilities, from accounting to marketing and selling. This can be a massive amount of work and a steep learning curve, especially in the beginning. By having a partner, some of the tasks can be delegated, allowing each person to focus on their strengths and areas of expertise. This not only makes the process less daunting but also more efficient and effective.

    • The emotional toll of solo entrepreneurshipConsidering a business partner can help share the workload, bounce ideas off of, and provide support during tough times, potentially leading to a more successful journey.

Starting and growing a business alone can be a challenging and isolating experience. The speaker shares their personal experience of the emotional toll it took on them, even pushing them to some low points. While there are benefits to having full control and not having to share profits or decision-making, the lack of support and shared experience can make the journey harder. The speaker reflects on their past experiences and wishes they had brought in a partner to share the workload, bounce ideas off of, and lean on during tough times. Although there are challenges to working with someone else, the speaker emphasizes that having a partner could have made the journey less daunting and potentially even more successful.

    • Starting a business with a partner brings relief and greater successForming a partnership in entrepreneurship can ease the burden, provide different forms of capital, and result in shared decision-making, leading to greater success and a newfound sense of ease.

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, but forming a partnership can bring relief and greater success. The speaker, who has previously run a business alone, is now starting a new venture as a joint partnership. This new experience feels more relaxed and less burdensome due to the division and conquering of tasks, as well as the availability of different forms of capital, such as knowledge and relationships. The speaker also values the shared decision-making and the absence of feeling like they need to control everything. This approach has given them a newfound sense of ease and a desire to never go back to running a business alone.

    • Partnering for Success: Collaborate for Greater AchievementsPartnering with someone can lead to greater success by allowing each person to focus on their strengths and areas of expertise, resulting in a more fulfilling and successful business experience.

Partnering with someone else in business can lead to greater success and ease, allowing each person to focus on their strengths and areas of expertise. This realization can be particularly beneficial for those who have had solo business ventures in the past and are hesitant to start again due to fear or the feeling of being overwhelmed. By bringing on a partner or employee, the sum of the team can become greater than the individual parts, leading to a more fulfilling and successful business experience. This concept can apply to various aspects of life, and considering it may bring ease and improvement. Ultimately, it's essential to assess individual strengths, weaknesses, and context to determine if this approach could be beneficial. Remember, collaboration can lead to greater achievements than trying to do it all alone.

Next time you want to blame someone else for being ____ ask yourself - what did I do about it?  We are quick to blame others when we could have done more or done things differently.  It's often partially our own fault, more than we would like to admit. Admit it and be better.
