Weston Eidson: A Live Chat With the Winemaker and His “Vertical”

Weston Eidson: A Live Chat With the Winemaker and His “Vertical”

Live from The Magnolia Wine Bar!  SWTW’s first live event was a smashing hit and this episode has 2 parts - our pregame interview with Weston Eidson and snippets of our live discussion with audience participation - in the wine tasting of course!  We’ll apologize in advance for the background noise!

When winemaker Weston Eidson lets Mother Nature play leading lady in his wine styles for Montagu and Silver Ghost, popping the cork on his verticals is a delicious exploration.  In prepping for this episode, Charisse, Weston and Kristi searched high and low for the Silver Ghost 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon to round out our vertical tasting.  Not every plan comes together and we had to get creative!

    • 2019 Silver Ghost was obviously a huge fan favorite - we couldn’t find any anywhere!
    • 2020 fires in Napa were Mother Natures cruel way of testing Weston’s winemaking legacy as he scrapped his entire harvest rather than make smoke tainted wine

Never fear, we had the perfect solution!  2020 Montagu Pinot Noir, 2021 and 2022 Silver Ghost Cabs!  Not the typical vertical, but the wines led us down a fabulous path of exploration!  Stay tuned for a fun filled, informative chat followed by a whole lot of wine chatter!

Let's Talk Vine(YL)- Raising a Toast: Music, Marathons, and the Magic of Pearl Jam and Wine

Let's Talk Vine(YL)- Raising a Toast: Music, Marathons, and the Magic of Pearl Jam and Wine

I recently hit the pavement for a couple of half marathons and 10Ks, while my buddy Trey spent a weekend at his winery enjoying a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. As we compare our different, yet equally incredible experiences, we find ourselves marveling at the transformative power of music and its impact on people of all ages. In this special episode of Let's Talk Vinyl, we discuss two songs from Pearl Jam's 2013 album, Lightning Bolt, while also delving into the world of wine and its intriguing marketing tactics.

Trey and I raise our glasses to a particular Cabernet Sauvignon that claims to be made for active people who prefer low sugar content. Is the marketing misleading, or is there truth to these health benefits? We discuss the technology behind cross flow filtration and even take a look at a video showcasing the wine's marketing strategies. And of course, we don't forget about our main attraction, Pearl Jam. We touch on the filtering process used in winemaking and its effect on taste and quality, and even share our dream bottles of wine at different budgets.

As we reminisce about our personal experiences with music, running, and parenting, we can't help but also discuss the passing of renowned poster artist Frank Kozik. We pay tribute to his memory by sharing some of our favorite encounters with him and his work. In addition, we explore Pearl Jam's 2013 album Lightning Bolt, discussing the songs "My Fathers Son" and "Pendulum," the bass-heavy sound, and the statement it makes. We wrap up by discussing the upcoming Pearl Jam tour with special guest Brad Laing, ticket situations, and set lengths, while also speculating about their future performances. Join us on this musical and vinicultural journey, and let's raise a toast to the power of music and wine!

Wines To Find, Ep 121: Hall Wines President Mike Reynolds

Wines To Find, Ep 121: Hall Wines President Mike Reynolds

Wines: 2019 Hall Terra Secca and 2019 Hall Jack's Masterpiece
Guest: Mike Reynolds, President of Hall Wines

What better way for us to become Hall Wine Ambassadors than to have the president, and founding winemaker, Mike Reynolds on to tell us about the company and share these two wines with us!

In the mid-90's, Craig and Kathryn Hall purchased property in Napa Valley with the intention of starting a winery. Soon after that, Kathryn was asked to represent the United States as ambassador to Austria by then President Bill Clinton. After serving for several years, the Halls returned to Napa Valley and set about establishing Hall Wines.

Our guest, Mike Reynolds, was hired as founding winemaker and eventually became President of Hall Wines. Known for their wide array of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (they produce 18 cabs!) and the beautiful artwork not only on their labels but in their tasting room and operations offices, Hall represents the essence of Napa Valley wine country - from their farming rustic roots to the artistic expression that calls to  winemakers to the wines that allow the variances of the mountain and valley's terroir to shine through.

Listen today to learn about the 18 Cabernet Sauvignon offerings from Hall Wines, the specific two we tasted and how they can each be distinctly different from one another (they can!).

If you would like to learn more about Hall Wines, visit: Hall Wines.
