Today in  1661, Oliver Cromwell's dead body was exhumed and beheaded in revenge for his execution of King Charles I on Jan 30 in 1649.  We look at how Cromwells puritanism motivated him, his disputed legacy, and Englands brief experiment with republicanism 

We continue the month long journey into noir-ness, with one of the better, recent adaptations of the genre. L.A. Confidential (1997) does a great job of weaving multiple story lines, while not dumbing down the plot. Great acting from not only the main, but also supporting characters, just enhance the experience. And we can finally answer the question: Who is Rollo Tomasi?

Gaia Mystic Mare Cromwell shares her visions of a New Earth being birthed. 

Wolfwalkers è un film del 2020, diretto da Tomm Moore e Ross Stewart, prodotto da Cartoon Saloon. È il quarto lungometraggio dello studio ed è la terza pellicola del trittico del folklore irlandese, di cui fanno parte anche The Secret of Kells e Song of the Sea. Ha ricevuto la nomination ai Golden Globe e 10 nomination agli Annie in svariate categorie, tra cui miglior film d'animazione indipendente.

La storia è ambientata in Irlanda, al tempo della sua conquista da parte di Cromwell, che sterminò i lupi come segno dell'ammaestramento di quelle terre "selvagge". La protagonista è Robyn, una giovane ragazza il cui padre è incaricato di dare la caccia ai lupi. Anche Robyn è entusiasta all'idea di cacciare i lupi ed è un'arciera provetta. Un giorno, però, incontra Mebh, una wolfwalker: una creatura magica con l'aspetto di umana quando è sveglia e di lupo quando dorme. Da questo incontro, nascerà un'amicizia che farà capire a Robyn la vera natura della foresta, dei lupi e di se stessa.

Wolfwalkers è la degna conclusione del trittico del folklore irlandese ed è ambientato a Kilkenny, patria e luogo di nascita di Cartoon Saloon e dei suoi fondatori. È una storia che racconta la contrapposizione di due mondi, la città e la foresta, personificate in Robyn e Mebh. Il contrasto viene anche rappresentato con lo stile visivo: la città ha colori freddi, forme spigolose e dai contorni netti, mentre la foresta ha colori caldi, forme curve e contorni sfumati. L'ispirazione celtica si vede soprattutto nella foresta e nella rappresentazione della magia. Wolfwalkers è una splendida avventura che fa riflettere sui temi della natura, il rispetto degli animali, l'amicizia e il trovare se stessi.
