Episode 299: Rocksteady has lost the plot
Hello All! Another week, another rant, but not as heated. As you can tell by the title its about Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, and boy am I not happy. We also had a state of play from Sony, Microsoft gutted Blizzard, and Mass Effect is headed to Destiny. Meanwhile The Thunderbolts loses several stars, Supergirl is found, Denis Villeneuve has plans for Dune 3. Also, there was an issue with my microphone this week, so that will explain the poor audio quality.

Diane and Sean discuss the one that started it all...sorta, The Bourne Identity. Episode music is, "Extreme Ways" by Moby from the OST.

145: Everybody steals from everybody, that's Hollywood. | Swingers (1996)

We're finally getting back into the swing of things (haha) here on the pod  and talking one of the most quotable films of the 90s, Swingers! After three years it seems baffling to me that I haven't talked about this film yet. I know you know someone who had this movie poster on their wall, and yet it's one I don't hear talked about too much.

Written by Jon Favreau and starring most of his emerging actor friends, this film is part time capsule and part subculture view. We follow a super baby faced Vince Vaughn with his fast talking, story telling that he becomes known for years later and hear about  movie auditions, lingering breakups, and constant cinema references. Me and Charles had a blast giving our favorite scenes, dramatic interpretations, and decide whether or not we're money.

Off topic rants include: Jurassic Park, Survivor,  MTV's The Challenge

at 1:10:00 we talk a little about Season 2 Ep 3 of Yellowjackets (spoilers)

HOW BIDEN CAN KILL THE "DOCUMENTS" STORY 1.23.23

HOW BIDEN CAN KILL THE "DOCUMENTS" STORY 1.23.23

EPISODE 117: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN

A-Block (1:41) SPECIAL COMMENT: I do not believe Joe Biden and/or his team mishandled any classified documents. Unfortunately, it’s clear Joe Biden and/or his team mishandled the messaging, the process, and the narrative. If you have to tell seven different stories in two weeks, it begins to matter less and less that you were totally cooperative and proactive and invited the feds to search, and it begins to look more and more like that oldest of presidential story templates: It no longer looks like what the president said it was.

Happily there are several things the president can still did to regain the narrative and smash the undeserved gift his team handed the inquisition-happy Republicans and the pudding-brained American political-media complex so desperate for a Democratic scandal that Peter Baker actually wrote a piece comparing Biden's papers to Clinton-Lewinsky! And he better do them TODAY.

B-Block (16:25) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Sebastian; (17:30) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Brett Kavanaugh Sexual Assault documentary, Revised Edition, plus George Santos, and the SCOTUS Investigation that wasn't really an investigation. (20:14) IN SPORTS: Trump praises Trump, The Golfer Of Strength And Stamina. Hockey's Vancouver Canucks screw up again. A month until Spring Training games and the chaos of the new rules. And my secret method to make sure all batting averages actually go up (24:36) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Nikki Haley doesn't know what the "P" in VP stands for, the lights are on but no one's home, and Greg Abbott's epic twitter self-own.

C-Block (29:13) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Talk about White Houses trying to control the narrative: in 2004 George W. Bush's people were a) convinced I was on their side b) knew I was only interviewing Iraq War critic Ambassador Joe Wilson in order to savage him c) decided to help me by emailing all their talking points but d) couldn't figure out how to spell my name. Hilarity ensued (and all they wound up doing was revealing to me all of "their" people at NBC News.

    Midweek Mention... Swingers

SWINGERS was released in 1996 and Sidey in particular has loved it ever since.

Dan joined in the conversation as the guys try to pin down exactly why this film is such a hit with the fellas. Is it the eminently quotable dialogue, the brilliant soundtrack or the gents style? Possibly all of those things.

This movie launched the careers of Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn and Doug Liman. Not to give too much away, but we love this movie!

We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com.

However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

    Edge Of Tomorrow review

    Edge Of Tomorrow review

Tom Cruise is no Maverick in this one but he gets battle-tested real quick. No new movies this week worth reviewing (just an after school special starring Buzz Lightyear), so in light of the phenomenon that is Top Gun: Maverick, we're going to a past Tom Cruise movie. The 2014 sci-fi action-adventure mind scrambler that is Edge Of Tomorrow. Here he gets top billing with Emily Blunt who commands the screen as a mighty soldier against man-killing aliens bent on world domination. Picture a mashup of Starship Troopers and Groundhog Day and you'll get a little picture of this Doug Liman-directed film. Listen to my spoiler-free review to learn more!

    Swingers (1996)

Happy 25th Anniversary to the comedy which spawned a dozen catchphrases including “Vegas baby Vegas!” and “You’re SO money!” 😊

It’s one of the ultimate hang-out movies and tells the story of a struggling actor (Jon Favreau who also wrote the screenplay) who moved to LA just about six months ago and is trying to get over the girlfriend he left in New York - his best friend Trent (Vince Vaughn) is showing him the ropes on how to meet someone new…or is he?  We follow them along with several other friends around mid ‘90’s Los Angeles wearing bowling shirts, attempting to swing dance, and always on the prowl for “beautiful babies.”

All of this was filmed on the fly by director Doug Liman who would go on to direct big-time action films like "The Bourne Identity" and "The Edge of Tomorrow."  After twenty-five years, it’s time to head back to The Dresden!

‘The Bourne Identity’: Listen to This. Listen to What They Give.

The guys get together once again to discuss the malfunctioning $30 million weapon Jason Bourne. They start by ranking the movie within the trilogy and what makes this series so much fun. They dig deep into the career of Matt Damon before getting into their favorite scenes and quotes from this action packed adventure. Joe shares a story of his dog, a squirrel and some red snow and Mike stays amazed at the zoom in feature that all these government movies seem to have. The Recast closes it out and they promise to not select Jeremy Renner as your next Jason Bourne. Next time you need something, go the Marie route and just ask!
