The Brochure on Updates: Gophers, Health Diaries, and Pet Love

This week, I'm navigating the wild world of adulting, from the saga of gophers in my yard to the complexities of health issues. It's update time on things I've shared with you in past episodes.  I share my personal struggles with weight loss during the festive season, and take you on my journey with urologists and urogynecologists - all documented in a bladder diary. Wait, what? And I'll share how inspired I've been by  Anderson Cooper's podcast "All There Is."   Did you know there's a  relationship between grief, compassion, and joy?

It's not all about human challenges, though! I'll take you on a heartfelt journey about gratitude, love, and our furry companions. After a recent scare with my cat's emergency vet situation, I've been reminded again about some invaluable lessons and deepened my appreciation for our four-legged companions. Whether you're a pet-parent dealing with challenges of your own or just an animal lover, you'll find something to resonate within my stories. So put on your headphones, get comfortable and join me on these unique journeys of life, love, and everything in between.

Detroit Auto Show, Hyundai Kona, Discontinued Models

Detroit Auto Show, Hyundai Kona, Discontinued Models

Jill and Tom are joined this week by long-time cohost Damon Bell, who is currently serving as Senior Research Editor at Cars.com. Jill and Tom opened the show arguing about the two-screen dashboard found in the current Infiniti QX50 compact crossover. Jill finds the systems dated, while Tom saw the value in having a single screen dedicated to navigation functions. Damon joined the conversation to help summarize the reveals seen at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. Jill, who was in attendance at the event, noted that the press activity was especially light, as was media attendance. The trio covered the reveals of the freshened Cadillac CT5, Ford F-150, Jeep Gladiator, and all-new GMC Acadia.

In the second segment Damon reviewed the all-new Hyundai Kona small crossover, noting that the vehicle has gotten larger on the outside, and roomier on the inside. Jill, Damon, and Tom went on to wrap up their “Dead Pool” lists created in way back August of 2021. There is some question as to who did the best job picking vehicles which were soon to be discontinued.

Jill and Damon were subjected to Tom’s “Lancia or Listeria” quiz, which—big surprise—was decided by a question about gophers.

"T.I.P.S." for CU v. UCLA / Plus: ASU Parts Ways With Herm Edwards: Will Karl Dorrell Be Next?

"T.I.P.S." for CU v. UCLA / Plus: ASU Parts Ways With Herm Edwards: Will Karl Dorrell Be Next?

Welcome to our weekly review/preview episode. I am joined for this episode by Brad Geiger and Neil Langland, and we will start with a quick, yet somehow still painful, review of CU’s 49-7 road loss against Minnesota. The Buffs were behind 35-0 at the half, and only scored their first touchdown in two games against the Golden Gophers after Minnesota had run up the score to 49-0.

We will then discuss the far more interesting news of the weekend, that being the firing of Herm Edwards by Arizona State. The timing of the move, coming early in the season and with an NCAA investigation still looming, is curious. We will talk about the repercussions of the terminations of Herm Edwards and Scott Frost, before turning our attention to how long the Karl Dorrell era will last at Colorado. Athletic Director Rick George issued a statement Sunday, and we’ll sift through the language of that statement, and talk about how much longer CU can tolerate having what has become the worst team in Power Five conference football.

Not neglecting our duties, we also will go through our “T.I.P.S.” progression for the CU/UCLA game, reviewing the Talent for both teams, what Intangibles may be in play, how Preparation will play a role, and then look at which Statistics will factor in in deciding the winner.

So... Do the Buffs have a chance at keeping Bruin quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson - who has almost 1,200 career yards of total offense in four games against the Buffs - in check? Is it no longer about victories for the Buffs, but keeping it respectable? Will Karl Dorrell make it out of September with his title of head football coach at Colorado intact?

    Let’s find out...

"T.I.P.S." for CU at Minnesota: Buffs Hit the Road as Four-Touchdown Underdogs

"T.I.P.S." for CU at Minnesota: Buffs Hit the Road as Four-Touchdown Underdogs

Welcome to our second review/preview of the 2022 season. I am joined for this episode by Brad Geiger and Neil Langland, and we will start with a post-mortem of CU’s 41-10 loss to Air Force. The Buffs had their chances against the Falcons, but blown opportunities late in the first half and early in the second half doomed the Buffs to a second straight defeat.

We will then turn our attention to CU’s upcoming game against Minnesota. Going through our “T.I.P.S.” progression, we will look at the Talent for both teams, what Intangibles may be in play, how Preparation will play a role, and then look at which Statistics will factor in in deciding the winner.

After that - just for fun - we will take a look at the biggest news item of the second week of the season, the firing by Nebraska of their head coach, Scott Frost.

So, can the Buffs overcome the plethora of mistakes they made in the rain in Colorado Springs, and put forth a competitive effort against the Golden Gophers? Will CU offensive coordinator Mike Sanford, formerly Minnesota offensive coordinator, have a triumphant return to Minneapolis - or will the Golden Gophers have the last laugh? And will our speculation about candidates for the new head coach at Nebraska soon be turning to speculation as to candidates for the new head coach at Colorado?

    Let’s find out...

EPISODE 31: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN 9.13.22

EPISODE 31: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN 9.13.22

    THEY WERE DOIN' A GOLF

A BLOCK (1:46) SPECIAL COMMENT: That wasn't a secret Trump Crime Family meeting at the golf course: They were doin' a GOLF (2:10) No matter who captioned the photos "Trump with Devin Nunes and Sean Hannity" it was Trump with his VP/Golf Courses and Director of Grounds. (3:35) I have witnessed Trump do this in one of his New York apartment buildings: he likes to show his employees how to do the jobs they are actually experts at. (5:40) It seemed to dovetail: 40 subpoenas! Dan Scavino! Boris Epshteyn! Seized phones! Of course they were meeting at a golf course! They were afraid of wiretaps, and everybody had their phones seized! Nope. They were doin' a GOLF (6:16) And they weren't trying to fix the Special Master case because it looks like the judge has realized she's screwed up and may walk it back. (9:08) After he lost the election Trump told people he wouldn't leave the White House. Why are we only finding this out now? Because Maggie Haberman held it for months (maybe longer) for her new book: "I'M NOT GOING TO REPORT ANY OF THIS UNTIL I GET A BOOK DEAL!" This is the third time Haberman has done this with this book alone. She joins Bob Woodward, Robert Costa, Jon Karl, and others as reporters who refused to report. (13:00) But Haberman's case is so egregious we need to know what ELSE she might be suppressing. So I think The House January 6th Committee should subpoena her to find out what she knows - or what she WILL know later when the damn book comes out.

B BLOCK (16:49) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Willow (18:06) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: J6 Committee may invite Pence and Trump today, possible new PA Secretary of State goes full 9/11 Truther, and no one was injured at the Emmys. (21:35) IN SPORTS: The continuing shame of Mike Trout's anonymity, and the death of Queen Elizabeth messes with the weekly European soccer championship. (22:38) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Fox's Faulkner Freaks, Ronda Santis bribes voters, Matt Gaetz mocks his opponent's autistic son.

C BLOCK (28:10) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: The day my appendix burst and it was 48 hours before I knew it so I kept working and I beat CNN in the ratings anyway and I learned how to tell Rush-To-The-Hospital Appendix Pain from the other kind so I can tell thee and John Cleese reminded me it happened to him too and to milk it for all it was worth: "You and I were dying of septicemia!"
