    Is Being "Hangry" Biblical?

    Is Being "Hangry" Biblical?
When you are overwhelmed, sometimes it's simply because you're "Hangry!" (That's hungry and angry together.) Other times that stress can be overcome by taking a deep breath in for 4 seconds, holding it 4 seconds, and exhaling it slowly for 4 seconds.

After you've done all of that, turn to God and trust Him in prayer.

May His peace be with you.

Episode 140-(HOT TOPIC) Why We Get HANGRY!

Episode 140-(HOT TOPIC) Why We Get HANGRY!

“We better bring snacks, or I will get hangry!” You may have heard this before or said it yourself! Hunger is a valid feeling, but the constant need to be consuming food is a sign that you are not fueling your body appropriately. Let’s talk about why that may be and how you can support the body's need to stay fuller for longer- and happier and healthier too!

    WHY do people get hangry?

[4:26]- The standard dietary guidelines are setting you up for failure! How this affects your body's blood sugar and hormone fluctuations.

[12:30]- How to fuel your body appropriately to avoid hunger!

[19:09]- My favorite clean protein and fat sources.

[22:52]- Why it may be a good idea to “fast” from sugar for an extended period of time!

I created my own protein guide to guide you in the right direction regarding how much protein your body individually needs. It is a completely FREE resource, I encourage you to use and learn from it!

Mike Evans (Fixer) | Define Success for Yourself

Mike Evans founded GrubHub in his spare bedroom and turned it into a multi-billion-dollar online food delivery company. He left the company shortly after it successfully went public in 2014. Currently, he is working on his second startup – Fixer.com. Mike and his team at Fixer are building a "handyperson" business that looks a lot like GrubHub – easy online ordering, good communication, and great quality control.

On today’s episode, Mike talks about his new book, “Hangry: A Startup Journey,” which reveals the inside story behind the creation of GrubHub and provides lessons for entrepreneurs and startups that Mike learned on the fly. Plus – Jim and Mike discuss defining success for yourself, having the courage to move on from things that aren’t working and the importance of hard work, perseverance and grit.

Check out the first edition of The CMO Podcast Magazine. In it, host Jim Stengel talks to marketers and executives about how to become an inclusive leader and the ways they're promoting DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion). This includes discussions about initiatives they're implementing in their company, how they're succeeding, and why DE&I is vital to their bottom line.

#0041 - Valuable Lessons from GrubHub Founder Mike Evans

#0041 - Valuable Lessons from GrubHub Founder Mike Evans
On this episode of the Startup of the Year podcast, Frank Gruber talks with Mike Evans at our 2020 Summit. Mike shared his story behind starting and taking GrubHub to IPO. He also talked about his new startup Fixer.com, and forthcoming book Hangry.

Frank also takes a moment to share that the Established team has been mourning the recent loss of Tony Hsieh, the former CEO of Zappos and author of Delivering Happiness, and the man behind the Downtown Project to revitalize downtown Las Vegas.

Tony was a visionary whose thoughts on culture changed the e-commerce industry with Zappos.com and inspired us and so many to lead with a solid company culture. He was a very generous person who dreamed big and chased the vision rather than the money. He was an investor in our previous company, TechCo and we worked closely with him over the last decade. His work in downtown Las Vegas impacted many with the small business and startups that were attracted to the area to take part in his huge vision to revitalize the previously faceless downtown area and make it a place for live, work and play. He was loved by us and so many, he will be missed greatly. Gone too soon at only 46 years old, rest in peace, Tony Hsieh.

We also hear some segments from some of our Established Team members. Rich Maloy of Established Ventures provides some tips for our startup founder listeners during the “VC Minute.” Also, our Director of Partnerships, Jacqui Dietrich, provides an update about our Partner Programs and specifically discusses the following:

    Fresh Bread

    Fresh Bread

    Are you hangry?

I’m hearing that word used more and more these days. Merriam-Webster has added it to their dictionaries; so, it’s officially a word. Maybe you’ve seen or experienced the irritability that is caused from hunger displayed publicly.

You know if you’ve listened to my 21 Day Think God’s Way for a Change that I don’t believe we have to allow our emotions to drive our actions, but the fact remains they often do.

    But

have you ever thought about the fact…

that your actions are affected by another kind of hunger…God’s Word.

I don’t have to tell my husband

if I haven’t been feeding my spirit…he can tell.

I don’t have to tell my kids either…

    they can tell.

    God’s Word nourishes your spirit.

You can’t live off an occasional sermon.

    You need DAILY BREAD.

May I suggest that you add God’s Word to your breakfast?

If you skip breakfast, please don’t skip God’s Word! You need it right now more than ever.

One more thought to leave you with…

it’s not how much you eat of God’s Word that nourishes you; it’s how much you digest.

Quick suggestions to help you digest more.

    1. Think about what you are reading.
    2. Pray over it.
    3. Ask God to open your understanding and how He wants you to apply it to your life.

John 15: 7 New Living Translation
But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

Hangry? How to Control Your Appetite and Cravings with Dr. Brooke and Sarah Fragoso

Hangry? How to Control Your Appetite and Cravings with Dr. Brooke and Sarah Fragoso

Hanger is real! Not only is it real, but it is also your body trying to tell you something is not right! In this episode of Coffee & Kettlebells, we are going to dive into what really is causing you to have an increased appetite and feel crazy hungry all the timeI chat with guests Sarah Fragoso and Dr. Brooke Kalanick, authors of the best-selling book Hangry, who educate us what is actually happening in our bodies when we feel hangry. Hint: it's your hormones!

One of my favor parts of the episode is when Dr. Brooke says, “How many times do we reach for the sugary treat instead of a high protein snack when our energy is in the tank? We feel that intense craving and think we’re getting a strong message that the cookie is exactly what our body need. In reality, this is not a cookie deficiency but rather our blood sugar on the fritz, thanks to insulin and cortisol issues.” I think most people think they are craving a cookie because they are craving a cookie, and they don’t realize that craving is actually stemming from hormonal imbalances. Dr. Brooke and Sarah explain that our hormones are talking to us all the time and telling us what we needInstead of hating our hormones, we just need to start listening to what they are really trying to tell us, and the same goes for our metabolism! If we can learn to listen to our hormones, we can learn to balance them and successfully take control of our appetite and foods cravings.

    What else you’ll learn:
