Season 3 / Episode 17: Arlene Jorgenson - Endurance in times of sadness & loss

Quotes about change: "Do the basics so you feel normal."

Arlene Jorgenson is a strong person.  She built a successful business, had a loving husband who was also her partner in business, and was part of a strong faith community.

In 2003, her husband was diagnosed with cancer, and shortly after that she went through the difficult time of selling her business.  That was hard period for Arlene and her husband.  As his health failed, Arlene was the primary caregiver and there were days when it was difficult just to make the bed.  COVID hit shortly after her husband’s passing, leaving Arlene to grieve in isolation.

It's been a long and lonely time, and Arlene shares how family, faith, and journals helped her to get through one day and one week at a time.  Through perseverance, today she sometimes catches her reflection in the mirror, and sees that she’s happy.

260: Navigating Friendships During The Pandemic

260: Navigating Friendships During The Pandemic

The ladies answer a question: Since the pandemic, what our listener thought were close friends are no longer present, or showing up for them. They ask, how do you find strong, genuine friendships?

Showing up in our friendships through a pandemic has changed for all of us.

Michelle has built some incredible relationships online and throughout the pandemic, and she has had the ability to nurture these friendships. There is something really valuable in our online friendships.

When you are attracting online friendships, there’s a connection on the basis of inspiration, rather than a time-place connection. We don’t seek our friends to fulfill us, and we aren’t alive to serve others. When our cups are full, we attract others who also have full cups. We harmonize with people who are like us, says Dana.

On this episode we dive into:

    • Navigating friendships in a pandemic
    • How to build solid relationships
    • Drifting apart from or evolving away from certain friendships
    • Being confident in moving on from friendships that aren’t serving you. Let’s normalize it!
    • Dana’s card of the day- reminding us not to quit before the finish line

    The Take Home:

The pandemic has awakened our energetic levels in ways that might make us feel like navigating and reflecting on the people that we allow into our space. If we are evolving as human beings, we will attract others who are evolving too! Choose friends that love you where you’re at, and love your friends where they are at too. Do things that you love to do, and they will come when they are meant to come!

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned. ” -Maya Angelou

I Think We Should Talk... About Things I'm Learning in Quarantine

Hi Everybody! Phew! I don't know about ya'll but the last few weeks have been crazy for me That also includes the podcast. We've been talking about some pretty heavy hitting things, and I decided to just come at you guys with some more laid back content focusing on the things I'm learning about myself right now.

I like doing things in my own way, in my own time, and I don't want to feel pressured to make decisions that won't work for me. I think knowing yourself is so important and I'm so grateful for this time at home to learn these things so that when I get back out into the world, I am better equipped with the skills to be successful.

I really hope you enjoy the episode, and make sure to share the content someone who might like to hear something like this too! :)

    Setting Holiday Boundaries

    Setting Holiday Boundaries

Healthy boundaries are super important as we head into the holidays, especially in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic. The word boundaries is used a lot in the personal development space but not always explained clearly. Understanding is key to feeling empowered to set supportive boundaries.

In this episode of Unlimited, the podcast, I’m diving into how to set healthy boundaries in general but especially around pandemic life and holidays.

Some of what I’ll cover in this episode include:

    • Understanding boundaries
    • Setting boundaries
    • Communicating boundaries
    • Navigating holiday and Covid boundaries

Healthy boundaries create space and freedom. They are empowering because there’s a responsibility and self-awareness that comes with the process of setting boundaries. We’ll definitely be talking about boundaries a lot more, so be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on how to set healthy supportive boundaries in your life.

At a Loss for Words and Touch

At a Loss for Words and Touch

“What are you REALLY feeling?” Emotions seem to be jumbled due to isolation, lack of social interaction and suddenly we can't find words to express HOW we feel, if we feel at all. There is a word for that: Alexithymia.
And when we are literally out of touch with others, we are out of touch with ourselves. We are, as a whole, suffering from "skin hunger" . Touch is essential to our wellbeing in every way. But all we hear is DON'T TOUCH: no wonder we are so confused.
Kevin O'Donoghue, LMHC and Niseema Dyan Diemer, LMT teach us about the relationship between being at a loss for words and physical touch. They also share exercise tools to help us define our feelings and become centered in our bodies. Plus learn how to pronounce Alexithymia.

For more information or support contact Kevin or Niseema at info@thepositivemindcenter.com, or call 212-757-4488.

These are challenging times and we hope this episode served to validate and ease your anxiety about what you may be experiencing.

Pandemic Life and Screens: The Battle Intensifies

Pandemic Life and Screens: The Battle Intensifies
As stay-at-home orders extend, we’re relying more and more on screens. They’re one thing that keeps everyone pacified, and it’s especially tempting to keep kids entertained in exchange for a few hours of quiet. There are definitely positive uses for screens, like education, communicating with friends and family, and spiritual devotions, but we have to be careful when it comes to mindless entertainment. Here are some ideas to keep a balance in your home: * Pray - Pray the St. Michael prayer often. Keep the Rosary going in your home. * Keep to a schedule - Don’t panic if it doesn't hold, but having some train tracks is a good thing. * Seek a balance of screentime - Find other ways to entertain yourself, and your kids will be likely to follow suit. * Have a list of alternate activities for children. * Filter your internet for porn and bad content. * Make rules about screens in bedrooms and in private spaces. * Don’t let up. Be a force for positive interaction.
