    Operation Barras

    Sierra Leone’s civil war lasted from 1991 until 2002.  It was marked by exceptional levels of cruelty and suffering.  During this civil war the United Nations, neighboring West African states, and the United Kingdom launched military interventions into Sierra Leone.  The United Kingdom’s intervention was called Operation Palliser.  In September 2000 eleven British soldiers participating in Operation Palliser were captured by a militia gang known as the West Side Boys.  When it became clear negotiating with the West Side Boys was proving futile, the British decided to take military action to free their soldiers.  William Fowler’s “Operation Barras” tells the story of what happened.

Networks are evolving from traditional connectivity-focused structures to dynamic, capability-driven ecosystems. Telecom SaaS signals a transition from conventional telecommunication models to a more agile, business-focused paradigm.
    • Security concerns: Nokia and its cloud partners have taken robust measures to address security concerns. Their approach includes stringent security reviews and privacy management, ensuring multiple layers of security for Telecom Saas. Nokia also undergoes accreditations and independent analysis. These steps help instill confidence in customers regarding software security.
    • Shift to OpX model: In the Telecom SaaS transition, there's a shift from a CapEx to an OpEx model. This represents a significant change for an industry traditionally dominated by hardware-centric and CapEx-driven approaches. There are potential advantages to embracing an OpEx model, like lower total cost of ownership (TCO). But Nokia also has options to capitalize, if that's what the customer needs.

    • SaaS and IT consumption: SaaS has brought about a paradigm shift in how IT is consumed. Unlike traditional software releases that could lead to delays and technical debt, SaaS allows for continuous updates, which means users can benefit from new features promptly. Wayne talks about the efficiency and scalability achieved by running software in a single instance in the cloud.
    • Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) prices: Companies should prepare for potential "sticker shock" in the GenAI space. Users might be initially enticed by low prices only to face higher costs later. He advises CIOs to carefully evaluate the actual cost of GenAI queries before making investments.

    On today's Zero Limits Podcast I chat with Krishna Thapa former British Gurkha and 22 SAS operator.

    Krish grew up in mountains of Nepal, he applied to join the British Army's Royal Gurkha Rifles as a teenager and was successful. He spent 7 years in the Gurkhas before attempting SAS selection, becoming one of the first two Gurkhas to ever join the Regiment. 

    Krish spent the next 17 years within the regiment rising to the rank of Warrant Officer. During that time he became the leader of mountain troop, training his fellow SAS soldiers and deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a world renowned mountaineer and has lead many record breaking expeditions.

    Luftfartsselskaberne har af mange investorer været anset som uinvesterbare i kølvandet på coronavirussen. Flyene måtte forblive parkeret på landingsbanen, mens regningerne fortsatte med at tikke ind, og gælden blot blev større og større.

    Siden starten af coronavirussen har vi været vidner til ikke mindre end 64 konkurser blandt flyselskaberne. Investorerne har heller ikke været begejstrede for flyselskaber, der er faldet med 43% siden starten af 2020, mens verdensindekset er steget med 37%.

    Hos danske investorer har investeringer i SAS eller Norwegian ligeledes sat deres spor, hvorfor der hos nogle investorer stadig løber kuldegysninger ned ad ryggen, når man nævner "investering" og "luftfartsselskaber" i samme sætning.

    Luftfartsbranchen har de seneste år oplevet medvind fra rejselystne forbrugere, samtidig med at branchen har været udfordret på kapaciteten, hvilket har gjort det muligt at hæve priserne på rejser ganske kraftigt. Dermed begynder flere og flere af luftfartsselskaberne nu igen at se investerbare ud.
