    Manic...

    Manic...

My thoughts are all over the place. It's like trying to round up a three year old, souped up on pixie  sticks, while at a birthday party! I'm having a manic episode. Or is it my ADD? Or sleep depervation? Or the fact I've had some big changes happen, recently? Or am I excited? Or.... You see what  I mean? I'm having trouble focusing. I'm STILL procrastinating! Spinning like a ballerina...beautiful circles, round and round....my hell loop.

EP:195 Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention & Community Policing

EP:195 Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention & Community Policing

We're grateful to have Charles Stamper, a former Air Force member, law enforcement officer, and current Operations Manager for the Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, as our guest. Charles' military service, coupled with his law enforcement experience, has given him a unique perspective on suicide prevention. His insights, drawing from his years in the Air Force and his current role with the Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, offer an eye-opening look into the world of crisis intervention.

In our discussion, Charles paints a picture of the Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program's role in preventing crisis situations. He discusses the concept of Crisis Intervention Team Training (CIT), a cornerstone of community policing that promotes de-escalation and empathetic listening.

As we wrap up, Charles underscores the significance of the newly implemented 988 suicide prevention number and stresses veterans and all those struggling with mental health issues to reach out when they feel overwhelmed, depressed, lonely, or suicidal.  Join us in this extremely important conversation that touches so many.

EP:191 In the Trenches of Mental Health: Combatting Suicide Among Veterans

EP:191 In the Trenches of Mental Health: Combatting Suicide Among Veterans

Are you ready to explore the labyrinth of mental health among veterans, particularly the pressing issue of suicide? Let us guide you in this deep dive, with the assistance of our experienced guest, Megan Flaherty, a licensed clinical social worker from Hampton VA, who shines a light on suicide prevention - the VA's top clinical priority. We dissect the complexities of suicide prevention, emphasizing the power of universal screening, community dialogue, and the essential role of empathy when faced with a veteran admitting suicidal thoughts.

Our exploration continues as we zoom in on 'Lethal Means Safety' and the significance of community involvement. Megan unpacks the various strategies that create a buffer between destructive thoughts and the ability to act on them, highlighting effective measures such as gun locks and medication management. She also provides a glimpse into her role as the VA's Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator, aimed at enhancing the community environment for veterans and their families.

Wrapping up our discussion, we delve into the changing attitudes towards mental health, especially among the younger generation. We examine how normalizing mental health talks has empowered more individuals to seek help. Megan touches on the emergency number 988 for veterans in crisis and the importance of considering social determinants of health. We wrap up with a discussion on the PACT Act and practical steps veterans exposed to harmful substances like burn pits and agent orange can take to access benefits. Listen to this enlightening episode and acquire the knowledge to make a significant difference in the lives of veterans.

EP:70 The Power of Starting Over: A Journey of Self-Discovery

EP:70 The Power of Starting Over: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Ever found yourself in a slump, wondering how to rebuild your life? Well, I, Suzi Landolphi, have been there and I'm here to share with you how a period of collapse gave me the opportunity to start from scratch. We'll be reassessing what it is we are holding onto in our lives and if it's truly helping us to be our best selves. This podcast is designed to help you to not only find the strength in your struggles, but to harness it for growth and self-reinvention.

We'll also be hearing the inspiring stories of an artist and a combat veteran who previously found their worth in shaping others. However, they came to realize the real power lies in shaping our own identities. One such figure is Charlie Plum, a prisoner of war, who used his dire situation as an opportunity to become the person he wanted to be. We wrap up with a reflection on the importance of standards in guiding our choices. It's never too late to take ownership of your life and to create the person you want to be. So, let's embark on this journey together and learn how to Be Crazy Well!

    Gotta Have Faith

    Gotta Have Faith

What's keeping me up? Religion, gosspel music, the one year anniversary of my mom's death and the fact that the month of April has always sucked for me. I do not consider myself religious but I do have faith. Or at least, try. George Michael was right, "Ya Gotta Have Faith." I try hard not to lose faith in myself and others. But man, the world ahs been testing me.
