Walking on a Treadmill vs Regular Walking: Which is Better?
Walking on a regular basis is a great way to get a low impact cardio workout which promotes heart, bone and muscle health. It’s a simple activity and can be done practically anywhere. However many of us also prefer to walk on a treadmill at a gym or in a home which leads us to ask the question “Which is better for your health?”

1). Why we decided to look into this comparison between treadmills vs regular walking and how this can affect you if you exercise regularly.
2). Some of Meredith’s thoughts on adjusting the incline on a treadmill vs walking up a hill or inclined surface and how this can affect your workout.

4). How external factors like weather and terrain can affect your motivation for walking outside either positively or negatively.

Biofilm is formed when bacteria work together to form a colony and begin secreting exopolysaccharides, creating a haven that can become antibacterial tolerant and avoid the host’s immune system. Dr. Ryan Ferris, one of the lead biofilm researchers, explains what biofilm is, its diagnosis, current treatments, and which mares are at greater risk.

In this week's episode, Maggie looks at a paper by Boere et al (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-26093-2) in Nature Scientific reports where the authors look whether a short walk outside is better than a short walk inside.
While running on the treadmill can be great, especially if the weather is bad, are there actually hidden benefits of running outside. Maggie discusses the paper's findings and speculates of the reasons behind the results.

A new imaging modality made available to veterinarians, the PET Scan (positron emission tomography), is not yet fully understood. Dr. Katie Garrett, Director of Imaging, and Dr. Jose Bras, lead surgeon at the Wellington practice, discuss the uses of the PET scan in practice. Diagnosing repetitive stress injuries early has been a challenge for veterinarians. An earlier diagnosis may be possible potentially saving the horse from a more devastating injury. The PET scan, in conjunction with other imaging modalities such as radiology, nuclear scintigraphy and ultrasound, will allow more complete investigations of the difficult lame horse.

How Can You Develop Healthy Behaviors?
Healthy behaviors are essential as students manage multiple priorities such as coursework, studying, and social engagements. In this episode, Dr. P. talks with Jonathan Muruako, founder of Fitalyst, about how college students can address their health and wellness in holistic ways.
Muruako is a first-generation Nigerian-American who was born and raised in a small town in Mississippi. He attended the University of Pennsylvania as a Gates Millennium Scholar and received a Bachelors degree in Biological Basis of Behavior and completed a Dual Degree Masters in Public Health and Bioethics. He will begin his third Masters program at Penn this fall in Nonprofit Leadership. As mentioned, Muruako is the founder of Fitalyst, which uses college student and campus data to promote student wellness behavior. As a student-entrepreneur, his interests lie at the intersection of wellness, education, and equity. He enjoys reading, exploring new environments, and playing basketball.
