An Herbal Journey: Exploring Mother Nature's Medicine with Doug Wolkon

    enJuly 10, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Exploring the healing power of high-quality plant medicineHigh-quality plant medicine can promote gentle detoxification and bring the body back into balance, leading to improved health and wellness.

High-quality plant medicine, such as Curry powder or Tulsi tea, can help bring the body back into balance and promote healing. This is not the same as what you might find at the grocery store or even at the farmer's market. The magic of this approach lies in the gentle detoxification and homeostasis that can be achieved through the concentration of high-quality plants. Doug Wolfkin from Kauai Pharmacy offers a unique perspective on herbal medicine and its ability to lovingly bring us back into balance after living a life of high stress and toxicity. In the Resetter podcast episode featuring Doug, listeners can learn about the differences between consuming and applying plant medicine, as well as the various types of detoxing. Join Doug and the host on this transformative journey towards better health and wellness.

    • From Stress to Regenerative Farming: A Journey of Healing and AlignmentThe journey towards alignment involves unwinding, cleansing, and finding harmony with the universe and oneself, despite initial resistance and discomfort.

The journey from a high-stressed life to becoming a regenerative farmer was marked by a desire for healing and responsibility for health for the speaker. This transformation took place on Kauai, where they discovered the powerful healing attributes of noni leaf and began a process of unwinding and cleansing. However, the concept of slowing down was not just about stopping, but rather finding alignment with the universe and oneself. This alignment can be elusive, as our conditioned minds may resist it, but it is the ultimate goal. The speaker emphasized that the pain and suffering often associated with slowing down can be transcended and that the true objective is to work towards alignment.

    • Honoring the power of plants for holistic wellnessIncorporating plants into our lives through gardening, herbs, and spices can enhance our health and vitality by cleansing, detoxing, boosting energy, and magnifying our own vibrant energy.

Aligning our physical, mental, emotional, and energetic selves with the universe can lead to a sense of joyful slowing down, where we can tackle big tasks and rest when needed. Plants play a crucial role in this holistic approach to wellness. They offer a range of benefits from cleansing and detoxing to boosting life force and circulation. By accessing the full spectrum of mother nature's offerings, we can enhance our health and vitality. Whether through backyard gardening or sourcing rare herbs and spices, the intentional use of plant medicine can help counteract the stale and homogenized offerings of modern life. By honoring the power of plants, we can cleanse our bodies and magnify our own vibrant energy.

    • Herbal medicine's power from nourished soilHerbal medicine's effectiveness depends on soil health, offering gentle detox and restoring body's pH balance

Herbal medicine holds the key to rebuilding the life force in the body, which can be depleted by modern toxic food, thoughts, and lifestyles. However, the effectiveness of herbal medicine depends on the health of the soil from which they are grown. The best herbs come from rich, nourished soil, which is why some herbs may have a more potent effect. Historically, people have valued herbal medicine highly due to its life-saving properties, but its current lack of investment and recognition in the western world is a significant barrier. The radical alkalinity of herbal medicine offers a gentle and effective way to interrupt toxic diets and detoxify the body, with side effects that are manageable and not requiring commercial warnings. Herbal medicine's foundational role in restoring the body's pH balance can lead to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

    • Maintaining an alkaline body through diet and exerciseIncorporating everyday herbs like lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, and tulsi into your diet and regular exercise can help improve overall health and wellness by maintaining a balanced pH level in the body.

Maintaining a balanced pH level in the body through an alkaline diet and regular exercise, like the new PowerSync 60 program, can help improve overall health and wellness. The creators, Dr. Mindy Pelz and Tony Horton, have combined their expertise to offer a customizable fitness and meal plan, including fasting and bonus resources. The journey towards alkalinity begins with addressing toxicity in all forms and incorporating everyday herbs, such as lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, and tulsi, which have cleansing properties and should be part of a daily diet. These herbs, often overlooked in the Western world, have been used for centuries for their health benefits. The PowerSync 60 program and Kauai Pharmacy's herbal products aim to help individuals make simple yet effective changes to their lifestyles for long-term health benefits.

    • Boost Immune System and Reduce Inflammation with Natural HerbsIncorporating natural herbs like turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, and tulsi into your diet can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, improve digestion and metabolism, and promote respiratory health and mindfulness.

Certain natural herbs like turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, and tulsi can significantly boost the immune system and reduce inflammation in the body. Turmeric, for instance, is renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties and is used in various cultures for medicinal purposes. It's essential to source high-quality turmeric to maximize its benefits. Ginger, on the other hand, is known for its metabolic properties and can help improve digestion and metabolism. Tulsi, an herb used in India for thousands of years, aids in respiratory health and promotes awareness and mindfulness. These herbs can be consumed in various forms, including teas, and can help protect the body from various ailments and diseases by building the immune system and reducing inflammation. In essence, incorporating these herbs into your diet can help improve overall health and well-being.

    • Discovering the Benefits of Authentic Herbs and SpicesConsuming high-quality, authentic herbs and spices grown on small farms can improve health and wellness through unique healing properties. Navigating the industry to find them can be challenging, but the commitment to your health is worth it.

Consuming high-quality, authentic herbs and spices, like those grown on small farms, can make a significant difference in your health and wellness journey. These herbs, grown in nutrient-rich soils and produced in small batches, contain unique healing properties that may not be found in mass-produced versions. The experience of visiting such farms and being surrounded by the plants can even have a noticeable impact. However, navigating the industry and determining the difference between authentic and generic options can be challenging. It's essential to be informed and committed to your health, just as you are in other aspects of your life. While it might be tempting to settle for lower-quality options, striving for the best can lead to more significant benefits.

    • Caring for ourselves through healthy eating and plant medicineIncorporating plant medicine and healthy eating habits can lead to cellular healing and overall well-being as we age.

Taking care of yourself through healthy eating and incorporating plant medicine into your life can lead to greater fulfillment and even cellular healing as we age. The body gives signals, such as aches and pains, when it can no longer tolerate the abuse of unhealthy foods and lifestyle choices. By respecting ourselves and trusting the process, we can create a foundation for consistent experiences that add onto each other and lead to overall well-being. As we age, our cells become less tolerant of toxins, so it's essential to provide them with the nourishment they need to thrive. This can be achieved through consuming herbal teas, spices, and salves made from plants and herbs. By fully immersing ourselves in plant medicine and trusting its wisdom, we can bring balance to our hormones and neurotransmitters, leading to optimal health and well-being.

    • Improve well-being with self-care and natural productsSelf-care using natural products like macadamia oil and kava serum can improve mental and physical health, especially for women in their forties and fifties, by providing relaxation, sleep aid, and overall restoration, while deepening the relationship between plants and people through the skin.

Self-care and the use of natural products, like macadamia oil and kava serum, can significantly improve mental and physical well-being, especially for women in their forties and fifties who may be experiencing the challenges of motherhood and the lack of community support. These topical remedies can provide relaxation, sleep aid, and overall restoration without putting additional strain on the body's organs. The skin, as the largest organ, offers an alternative route for absorbing medicine and can be a powerful tool for healing and detoxification. The relationship between plants and people is deepened when we can access plant medicine through our skin, offering a gentle and effective way to enhance our overall health and well-being.

    • Experience the grounding and balancing effects of Kava through a serum infused in macadamia oilKava serum offers physical benefits without affecting the mind, aids in spiritual healing through meditation and breathwork, and deepens connection with nature for improved overall well-being

The Kava serum, infused in macadamia oil over a three-day process, offers a grounding and balancing effect on the body. Unlike consuming Kava internally, which can affect both the body and mind, the serum keeps the mind clear while providing profound physical benefits. This serum can be used as a form of transitional medicine, helping to bring the body back into balance before engaging in evening or morning routines. The plants used in the serum, including hydrosols and essential oils, can also aid in spiritual healing through meditation and breathwork. By incorporating all five components of plant medicine, nutrition, yoga, meditation, and breathwork, one can achieve a deeper connection with nature and improve overall well-being.

    • Reconnecting with our bodies through herbal remedies and self-care practicesIncorporating herbal remedies and self-care rituals can help us reconnect with our bodies, gain clarity on our needs, and align with self-love for optimal health.

As we make steps towards a healthier body, our bodies crave further moves towards wellness. When we're disconnected from our bodies, it's challenging to intuitively know what we need. However, by incorporating practices like using herbal remedies and self-care rituals, we can reconnect and gain clarity on what's best for us. The plants themselves seem to call in other healing elements as we use them more frequently. This idea of alignment and self-love is crucial in our journey towards optimal health. Kawai Farmacy on Kauai offers a range of herbal products and practices to support this journey. Their self-love practice includes focusing on breath and posture through meditation, while their superpower lies in sharing their experiences and knowledge to help others heal. Wisdom From Living With & Dying From Cancer - Interview with Elissa Goodman

Wisdom From Living With & Dying From Cancer - Interview with Elissa Goodman

Do you know what happiness and peacefulness genuinely mean to you? Elissa Goodman had no clue what those concepts were until her cancer diagnosis at age 32.

After being diagnosed with cancer when she was 32, Elissa Goodman explored holistic alternatives, combined them with traditional treatments, and was able to beat it. Her husband wasn’t as fortunate; he succumbed to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma when he was only 45 after a regimen of doctor-prescribed chemotherapy and two bone marrow transplants. Her personal experience led her to realize how nutrition and lifestyle affect our ability to deal with health challenges.
