Don't Let It Consume You... Until It Does... DO THE WORK - Day 380

    enAugust 11, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Maintaining a balance between work and personal lifeStarting a business can blur work-life boundaries, leading to potential burnout. Prioritize personal hobbies, interests, and relationships for overall fulfillment and well-being.

Starting a business can consume your life if you let it. When you were an employee, your work had clear boundaries and didn't interfere with your personal life and passions. However, once you start a business, the lines between work and personal life can blur, leading to a loss of separation and potential burnout. It's crucial to maintain a balance and not let your business define your entire existence. Instead, make sure you have time and energy for your hobbies, interests, and relationships, as they contribute significantly to your overall fulfillment and well-being. As your business grows, be mindful of the resources it requires and prioritize your personal life accordingly. Remember, you can't do it all, and maintaining a healthy balance is essential for long-term success.

    • Maintaining a healthy work-life balance as a self-employed entrepreneurSet clear boundaries, delegate tasks, and prioritize self-care to avoid letting your business define your life.

While becoming fully self-employed and following your passion can be incredibly rewarding, it's essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance. When you're the sole person responsible for every aspect of your business, it can be challenging to disconnect and step away, especially when the success of the business rests on your shoulders. This constant mental engagement can lead to the business defining your life, leaving little time or energy for personal pursuits and passions. To avoid this, set clear boundaries, delegate tasks when possible, and prioritize self-care. Remember, a successful business doesn't have to consume your entire life.

    • Balancing Personal Life and Business as a SolopreneurMaintaining a balance between personal life and business is crucial for solopreneurs to avoid burnout and missed opportunities, but it's not an easy feat and requires intentional effort and consistent work.

As a solopreneur, finding time for personal activities outside of work and creating a clear separation between business and personal life can be a significant challenge. This struggle can lead to emotional and mental exhaustion, causing one to miss out on important family and personal experiences. However, neglecting the business can lead to its failure, leaving the entrepreneur back at square one. Finding a balance is crucial, but it's not an easy feat. It requires intentional effort and consistent work. The speaker acknowledges this struggle and encourages listeners to keep trying to find a functional balance that allows for both personal growth and business success. It's essential to remember that while the business may be a significant part of one's life, it should not define them entirely. Instead, it's crucial to maintain a clear separation between the two to avoid the dangerous consequences of burnout and missed opportunities.

Burnt Out, Chronically Stressed, And Exhausted: How To Recover Your Energy In Every Area Of Life

This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Beekeeper’s Naturals, and HigherDOSE

Modern life is keeping most of us in a state of chronic stress activation, which puts our bodies in an ongoing state of survival mode—setting the stage for burnout. But burnout is not merely the result of working too hard or feeling physically exhausted, and it isn’t a personal failure.

In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Neha Sangwan, Dr. Andrea Pennington, and Dr. Elizabeth Boham about how chronic unmitigated stress can lead to burnout and how we can address it before our bodies get sick.

Dr. Neha Sangwan is an internal medicine physician, the CEO and founder of Intuitive Intelligence, and an international speaker and corporate communication expert. Her private practice and corporate consulting focus on empowering individuals, organizational leaders, and their teams with the tools for clear, effective communication. She addresses the root causes of stress, miscommunication, and interpersonal conflict, often healing chronic conditions such as headaches, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and burnout.

Dr. Andrea Pennington is an integrative physician, acupuncturist, meditation teacher, and number-one international bestselling author. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Washington University School of Medicine, trained at Georgetown University Hospital, and received certification in Age Management Medicine with the Cenegenics Medical Institute. Her extensive study of medical nutrition, positive psychology, and neuroscience-inspired biohacking led her to create a holistic media platform, In8Vitality, to teach people how to blend ancient wisdom and modern science for enhanced vitality and life mastery.

Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing.

Day 31: Boundaries - The truth behind this practice

Day 31: Boundaries - The truth behind this practice

Today I  talk about boundaries, especially in recovery and how important these are for me to implement while travelling on this spiritual path. There is so much information out there on this topic and I am just about to add to all the media that is available. Creating, implementation and maintaining of boundaries is a vital component of self-care, and not taking them seriously for us leads to burnout, resentment, hurt and anger. We may feel that others are taking advantage of us, taking over our space and time, and taking us for granted; which may leave us feeling depleted or overwhelmed. So what is a boundary? In recovery, it is explained as respect for oneself and respect for others, the dictionary defines it as a line which marks the edges or limits of an area. It is a Psychological demarcation that needs to be placed to protect your set limits when it comes to the physical, sexual, financial, intellectual, emotional, your time, and definitely your expectations. Good Spiritual boundaries have to include the honouring of your values, your beliefs and your set goals, and ensuring that nothing interferes with those, which means that you have to set your own boundaries and respect them, so you can ensure that others respect them as well.
