    • Six primary blocks to self-coachingUnderstanding blocks like brain's resistance to change, negative self-talk, lack of clarity, fear of failure, lack of motivation, and lack of accountability can help overcome them for effective self-coaching, leading to personal growth

Learning to coach yourself is a transformative skill, yet it comes with challenges similar to learning a new language. Our brains have ingrained ways of thinking, making it difficult to adopt new thought patterns. According to the host, there are six primary blocks to self-coaching and changing thoughts. These blocks are common and include the brain's resistance to change, negative self-talk, lack of clarity, fear of failure, lack of motivation, and lack of accountability. Understanding these blocks can help individuals overcome them and effectively learn to coach themselves, leading to empowerment and personal growth.

    • Accepting circumstances without judgment for effective thought workAccepting circumstances as they are without judgment is the first step towards effective thought work. Rushing through the process can hinder progress, so it's important to be curious, give thoughts space, and delve deeper to find underlying thoughts.

Our attitude towards circumstances significantly impacts our ability to effectively apply thought work. When we resist or reject a circumstance, we're not seeing it as neutral, which hinders our ability to change our thoughts. Instead, we're trying to manipulate the circumstance through our thoughts, treating thought work as a magic wand. However, it's crucial to understand that circumstances themselves don't have the power to cause our feelings; it's our thoughts about them that do. Therefore, accepting the circumstance as it is, without judgment, is the first step towards effective thought work. Additionally, rushing through the thought work process can hinder our progress. We may only focus on the surface level thoughts and overlook the deeper, underlying ones. This happens when we're in a hurry to change our thoughts and feelings, similar to how we might quickly buy a piece of clothing in a rush without considering if it truly fits our needs. To get the most out of thought work, it's essential to be curious, give our thoughts space to unfold, and delve deeper to find the thoughts that truly matter.

    • Understanding the root cause before changing thoughtsSlow down, be curious, allow emotions, and practice self-acceptance for effective thought change

Effective thought change requires self-awareness, acceptance, and patience. Sometimes we make hasty decisions based on incomplete information or react impulsively to negative emotions without fully understanding the root cause. This can lead to unnecessary changes that don't address the underlying issue. Moreover, resisting negative emotions and trying to change thoughts to avoid feeling shame can actually make it harder to access higher order thinking and make sustainable changes. Instead, it's essential to slow down, be curious, and allow ourselves to feel and process emotions fully before attempting to change our thoughts. Ultimately, self-acceptance and self-compassion are crucial components of successful thought change.

    • Self-acceptance and self-compassion are keys to unlocking power to change thoughts and improve self-imageTo improve self-image, focus on self-acceptance and self-compassion instead of trying to change thoughts directly. Normalize challenging experiences, extend compassion, and approach thoughts with curiosity for meaningful change.

Trying to change the way we think, feel, or act directly to improve our self-image often leads to more harm than good. Instead, it's essential to address the underlying feelings of shame and lack of self-compassion that prevent us from accepting ourselves as we are. When we judge ourselves for having negative thoughts or feelings, we create additional distress and block our ability to change. To overcome this, we must first extend compassion to ourselves, normalize our challenging experiences, and accept our thoughts as circumstances rather than personal failings. Only then can we approach our thoughts with curiosity and begin the process of meaningful change. So, in essence, self-acceptance and self-compassion are the keys to unlocking the power to change our thoughts and improve our self-image.

    • Overcoming common coaching blocksThe Clutch Intensive is a six-week course to help individuals learn skills to overcome resistance to acceptance, lack of curiosity, emotional resistance, shame, self-compassion, and thought acceptance through weekly coaching calls and study hall sessions.

When we're trying to coach ourselves and encounter obstacles in changing our thoughts, it's important to recognize that these blocks are common and normal. The Clutch Intensive: Solving Your Coaching Blocks is a six-week course designed to help individuals overcome these six common blocks: resistance to acceptance, lack of curiosity, emotional resistance, shame, self-compassion, and thought acceptance. 354. Greatest Hits with Mary's Cup of Tea: The Virgin/Mother/Whore Paradigm & How to Stop Giving a Shit

As women, we're often placed in prefabricated boxes that come with their own roles and expectations -- also know as the virgin/mother/whore paradigm. But what if you don’t want to be stereotyped into these roles? Is it even possible to just stop giving a shit and live your life the way you want?

In this re-release of one of my favorite interviews I've done in the last year, I sat down with top-rated self-love podcaster and author Mary Jelkovsky on her podcast, Mary’s Cup of Tea, to break down the sexist roles and expectations placed on women. We dive into the virgin-whore dichotomy and the maiden/mother/crone paradigm, explore the constantly shifting expectations women face (including a very spicy discussion about Botox), and discuss how to stop giving a shit about other people’s opinions. Living Once Twice Ep 73 - Time to Drop the Mask (Season 7 Finale)

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” ~E.E Cummings

In this season finale episode we’ll reflect on this season’s guests and discuss the importance of embracing the “real you” the person behind the mask.  Masking refers to hiding your “Authentic Self” behind an external identity in an effort to gain greater acceptance.

While it can be a struggle to embrace the true person, personality, and emotions underneath the masks we all wear, the gain of greater inner peace, freedom, love, and joy is worth the journey.
