Who Wins & WHO Loses? The 227th Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

    en-usMay 28, 2024

    Podcast Summary

    • Probiotics, Red Meat, and Dog FoodDoctors Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying discussed Seed (probiotics), Maui Nui Venison (red meat), and Sundays (dog food) as sponsors during their podcast. Seed offers a probiotic that really works for those with allergies, Maui Nui Venison provides the healthiest red meat, and Sundays makes human-grade dog food with an air-drying process.

During the Dark Horse Podcast livestream (episode 227), doctors Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying discussed various topics while sharing their experiences and promoting three sponsors: Seed, Maui Nui Venison, and Sundays. Bret shared an unfortunate incident where he accidentally hit himself in the forehead with a 2x4, advising listeners not to repeat his mistake. They also mentioned the unpredictable weather in the Pacific Northwest and encouraged listeners to join their watch party on Locals. Seed, the first sponsor, was introduced as a probiotic that really works, even for those who have tried other probiotics without success. Seed supports gut health and is free from common allergens. It's double hulled, making it resistant to oxygen, moisture, and heat, allowing for easy travel and a subscription service. Maui Nui Venison, the second sponsor, was described as bringing the healthiest red meat on the planet directly to consumers. The meat is harvested in a humane and socially responsible way, and research shows it's the most nutrient-dense red meat available. Sundays, the final sponsor, was praised for making dry dog food that is human-grade and loved by dogs. The unique air-drying process preserves nutrients and taste while eliminating food safety risks and synthetic additives.

    • Dog Food, WHO Pandemic TreatySundays dog food offers convenience and outperformed competitors in a taste test, while opposition to the WHO Pandemic Treaty protected individual rights and freedoms

Sundays is a better alternative to standard dry dog food, as evidenced by a blind taste test and the enthusiastic response from dogs like Maddie the Labrador. This food offers convenience with no prep, no cleanup, and no fridge required. Plus, it outperformed leading competitors in a taste test. If you want to make your dog happy and keep them healthy, consider trying Sundays for your furry friend. Additionally, there was a significant win against the WHO Pandemic Treaty, which aimed to give the World Health Organization the power to declare pandemics and mandate treatments at its discretion, including gene therapy. This treaty, which included the ability to mandate drugs, vaccines, and gene therapies, was a threat to constitutional freedoms and was met with strong opposition. Ultimately, the treaty failed to pass, marking a victory for those who value individual rights and freedoms.

    • Global health regulations expansionExpansion of global health regulations may lead to vague definitions and potential misuse of power, emphasizing the need for transparency and clear definitions in policy making.

The proposed changes to global health regulations aim to expand the definition of risks to public health, drawing parallels to the broad definition of terrorism in the NDAA of 2012. This vagueness allows for the potential misuse of power, with the government able to define and act upon perceived threats at their discretion. Despite setbacks, such as the failure to pass a pandemic treaty, proponents remain optimistic and continue to push for changes, using terms like equity to garner support. However, the effectiveness of these terms may be waning as public sentiment shifts and awareness of the potential for misuse grows. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of transparency and clear definitions in policy making, particularly in areas that significantly impact individual freedoms and global health.

    • WHO Pandemic TreatyThe defeat of the WHO Pandemic Treaty is a significant victory for those opposed to global health regulations perceived as an infringement on sovereignty and individual freedoms, but vigilance is necessary as the battle may not be over.

The failure of the WHO Pandemic Treaty, despite ongoing efforts to revive it, represents a significant victory for those opposed to global health regulations perceived as an infringement on sovereignty and individual freedoms. The treaty's defeat exposed its weaknesses and served as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and understanding the tools and strategies needed to challenge such initiatives. The international health regulations amendments, while still technically alive, have been significantly weakened and no longer contain the controversial provisions that sparked widespread alarm. Merrill Nass, an expert on the process, celebrated this victory and emphasized the importance of recognizing and learning from it. However, it's crucial to remain vigilant and not underestimate the determination of those pushing for such regulations. The battle may not be over, but this victory serves as a valuable lesson in the power of awareness, unity, and effective communication in shaping global policy.

    • Democracy vs One World GovernmentUnderstanding our accomplishments and continuing to adapt and innovate is crucial in the ongoing struggle between democracy and one world government, where control of information and emergent properties play significant roles.

The ongoing battle between democracy and one world government, as exemplified in the case of Missouri versus Biden and the potential infringement on the First Amendment, is a significant and ongoing struggle. Control of information is a crucial element for the globalists to maintain their power. The concept of emergence was highlighted in this discussion, where the idea of David and Goliath is no longer an individual versus individual battle, but rather an emergent property of many individuals. Education and interaction with physical systems were emphasized as essential for learning and growth, both for individuals and emergent entities. The importance of clear, unambiguous feedback was also stressed, as it allows for continuous learning and adaptation. The key takeaway is that we have won some battles, but we must not be complacent or talk ourselves out of understanding our accomplishments. Instead, we must learn from our victories, anticipate our adversary's responses, and continue to adapt and innovate.

    • COVID-19 Narrative ShapersIndividuals from diverse backgrounds and professions, including science educators, politicos, dissident experts, and mega channels, played crucial roles in shaping the narrative and raising awareness about important COVID-19 issues overlooked by mainstream media and political establishments, and highlighted the importance of staying informed and engaged in the political process.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, various individuals from different backgrounds and professions played crucial roles in shaping the narrative and raising awareness about important issues that were often overlooked or misunderstood by the mainstream media and political establishments. These individuals included science educators like John Campbell, who helped make complex scientific information accessible to the public; politicos like Senator Ron Johnson, who brought international voices to the forefront of the debate; dissident experts like Kat Lindley, Meryl Nast, and David Bell, who did the hard work of uncovering hidden information; and mega channels like Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, and Russell Brand, who reached vast audiences with their independent perspectives. Together, these individuals helped to challenge the dominant narrative and bring about a greater understanding of the issues at hand. The WHO's proposed pandemic treaty and its potential implications for individual sovereignty and democratic processes also emerged as a major concern, highlighting the importance of staying informed and engaged in the political process.

    • Effective communication, complex situationsEffective communication can lead to significant change, even in complex situations with negative reactions and accusations. Clear understanding and adapting to changing circumstances are key.

Effective communication and understanding the complexities of a situation can lead to significant change, even amidst negative reactions and accusations. The speaker's ability to make complex material intuitive and highlight the importance of a situation helped prevent a global authoritarian control architecture, despite initial backlash and accusations of being part of the problem. The success of this effort shows the importance of coordinated action and the ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances, rather than getting bogged down in infighting and conspiracy theories. Additionally, the speaker emphasizes the importance of recognizing the critical role of individuals and teams in making a difference, even if their contributions may not be immediately recognized or celebrated. In the context of high school sports, the speaker also discusses the confusion caused by the naming conventions of different divisions and the importance of clear communication and understanding.

    • High school sports divisionsHigh school sports divisions based on population size aim to ensure fair competition and provide opportunities for smaller schools and underrepresented populations, while self-enforced sports like ultimate Frisbee redistribute talent within the game.

High school sports in larger schools are divided into multiple divisions based on population size to ensure fair competition and provide opportunities for smaller schools and underrepresented populations. This is due to the fact that larger schools are more likely to have a larger pool of top performers, leaving smaller schools with fewer opportunities for success. The divisions aim to provide a level playing field and incentivize participation, aligning with the original intent of Title IX. However, even with these divisions, there are exceptions like ultimate Frisbee, which self-enforces redistribution of talent within the game. Despite the complexities, this system aims to provide equal opportunities for all students to engage in competitive sports.

    • Ultimate frisbee, fair playUltimate frisbee promotes a balance of competition and camaraderie, but fair matches and respect for skill level differences are crucial to maintain the spirit of the game.

Ultimate frisbee offers a unique blend of competition and camaraderie, allowing for coed teams and a focus on the game itself rather than just winning. However, it's important to ensure fair matches and avoid exploiting skill level differences. The discussion also touched on the controversy surrounding a male athlete competing in a female race at a track and field championship, which was met with boos and disapproval. The importance of sportsmanship, dignity, and honor in athletic competition was emphasized. Ultimately, the conversation highlighted the importance of fair play and respect for the spirit of competition in all sports.

    • Metrics and authenticity in sportsAn excessive focus on metrics and achieving specific goals in sports can lead to unintended consequences, such as athletes declaring a different gender to meet qualifications, and overshadow the true purpose and spirit of the activity.

Metrics and the focus on achieving specific goals can lead to unintended consequences and even the loss of authenticity in certain contexts, such as sports. Goodhart's Law, which states that once a metric is used to evaluate success, it can lose its value as people learn to game it, was discussed as a relevant example. At a track meet, the speaker observed athletes focusing too much on getting on the podium, leading some to declare themselves as a different sex to meet the qualifications. This narrow focus on a metric, or the podium in this case, can overshadow the true purpose and spirit of the activity. However, there were also standout athletes, like Braylon Baker and the female competitor mentioned, who exemplified true athletic ability and grace. Despite the potential pitfalls of metrics and the pressure to win, the thrill and pathos of live sport remain compelling.

    • Inspiration and CompetitionSeeing others succeed can inspire young athletes to push their own limits and make each other better, leading to extraordinary achievements.

The power of inspiration and healthy competition can lead to extraordinary achievements, especially among young athletes. The interview with Braylen Baker, a record-breaking athlete from a small Christian school, highlights how seeing others succeed can inspire one to push their own limits and make each other better. The meet in question was filled with impressive performances from both rural public and private schools, giving hope that the next generation is capable of composure, dignity, and honor despite the challenges in the world. Furthermore, dreams, as a fascinating and complex phenomenon, may serve as a form of practice for the mind, with narratives being written during waking hours and deployed during sleep. This hypothesis, though not yet fully proven, adds to the intrigue of the human mind and its capabilities.

    • Dream structuresDreams may not be entirely generated in real time, but rather, their structures could be influenced by subconscious thoughts and experiences.

Our dreams may not be entirely created in the moment, but rather, they could be influenced by our subconscious thoughts and experiences, and their structures could be built up ahead of time. This idea, as discussed, challenges the common assumption that dreams are generated in real time. The speaker shared an experience of having a dream with a carefully crafted storyline, which seemed too deliberate to have been produced on the spot. He also noted that dreams can be responsive to our current concerns and ruminations, suggesting that they might be influenced by our waking life. The speaker is still exploring this idea and looking for stronger evidence to support it, but he finds it intriguing and thought-provoking. It could potentially help explain the dichotomy between our control in lucid dreams and the lack of control in non-lucid dreams.

Science Friction: The 226th Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 226th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss a new breakthrough in plant genetics: polyploid potatoes and corn from Ohalo Genetics, which are claimed to double the harvest from individual plants. Beginning with a discussion of naturally occurring polyploidy in other species, including frogs, we analyze the discussion of Ohalo’s new products with an evolutionary lens. Is it possible that biotechnology can evade trade-offs, or is this utopian thinking in the corporate world? Why do so many mistakes of modernity come in the form of people accustomed to complicated systems, applying their knowledge to complex systems? Finally: does Terrence Howard (recently on Joe Rogan) have a predictive model, or is he just blowing smoke?

Anecdote in Science: The 224th Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 224th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss animal behavior: the implications of an orangutan using a medicinal plant to treat a wound, and the one-off videos that we’ve all seen—of cats preventing toddlers from falling, of a beluga whale retrieving a woman’s phone. What does this say about the minds of these other organisms, and about us? Also: dog domestication, from wolves, but not from foxes. And: the New York Times publishes more insipid garbage about vaccine injury, Bret returns to the question of what safety means, and The Nation turns its back on its muckraking roots.

Never Alone: The 223rd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 223rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss science and religion, materialism and other ways of understanding our world. Can analysis and quantification explain everything? Can narrative, intuition, and creativity? All are or should be part of the scientific process; science is incomplete with only one mode. We also discuss models, how they fail, how difficult they are to assess, and what one recent climate model has to say about the role of air pollution in Earth’s temperature. Enlightenment values require that we use our freedom to inquire about all things that we are curious about. Also: happy Beltane!

Why Darwin was Right: The 222nd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

Why Darwin was Right: The 222nd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 222nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss evolution, and how we know that it is true. We discuss the different kinds of beliefs that people have—beliefs that attempt to reconcile with reality, vs beliefs that reconcile with social standing and comfort. If your beliefs put you on the outs with your friends, do you change your beliefs, or your friends? Are you willing to give up the cocktail party for reality? We also discuss research published in 2000 and funded by Fauci’s NIAID, which demonstrated that it was possible to make chimeric coronaviruses, swapping the spike protein from one to a different species entirely. Finally: sex-biased gene expression, in which genes are expressed differently in the two sexes, in anatomical systems as varied as brain, kidneys, and liver.
