    The Week That Was and The Week That Will Be - July 3

     Welcome to the "myBurbank Talks" podcast with host Craig Sherwood and co-host Ross Benson. In this episode titled "The Week That Was and The Week That Will Be – July 3," we dive into the latest happenings in Burbank, California.

Frank Miller provided an update on the airport, mentioning a rough estimate of completion of the terminal project around October 2026.     Moving on to Wednesday, we talk about the recent arrests made by the police in connection with catalytic converter thefts. Additionally, Ross Benson provides insights into the Burbank fire department's recent graduates and promotions. We discuss a small fire incident on Lima and an explosives scare on Maple, which took place on Thursday.

    We also cover the national news surrounding the Warner Bros. Fire, gaining attention from ABC. On a lighter note, we celebrate Romancing the Bean's 30th anniversary in business.

    Transitioning into "The Week That Will Be," we preview the upcoming events and meetings in Burbank. On Monday, there was a Landlord Tenant Commission meeting at 6:15 pm at the Community Services Building. Tuesday marks the 4th of July, where we highlight the Starlight Bowl event and the preparations made by the Fire Department. We take a nostalgic look back at previous years, reminiscing about the JaCee Carnival at McCambridge. Remember, no fireworks are permitted of any kind, not even 'safe and sane'.

    Please note that both the City Council meeting and the Burbank Athletic Federation Meetings have been canceled for this week.

    Wednesday brings the Civil Service Board meeting at 4:30 pm in the Council Chambers. During this meeting, you can find comprehensive information about job openings and their current status.

    On Thursday, we highlight the Board Of Building And Fire Code Appeals meeting at 3:00 pm in the City Council Chamber. They will discuss updates on major city projects and provide insights into the fire department's progress. Please note that the Water and Power meeting for this week has been canceled.

    Greg Hamilton: Travel Agents Association President says Air New Zealand's commission slashing is poorly timed

    Travel agents are frustrated Air New Zealand is slashing commissions.

    The airline has cut longstanding three percent short-haul commissions for travel to Australia and the Pacific Islands.

    It’s also reduced long-haul commissions from five percent to one.

    Travel Agents Association President Greg Hamilton told Heather du Plessis Allan the timing isn't good after the pandemic.

    He says agents are working very hard supporting the airline and they should reconsider the timing.
