How to return to running post-partum with Jessica Marie Rose Leggio

How to return to running post-partum with Jessica Marie Rose Leggio

    This week I'm talking to one of the most, if not THE most, enthusiastic running coaches and trainers out there;

Jessica Marie Rose Leggio from RunPainFreeNow.com
In addition to having  qualifications and experience coming out the wazoo, she really cares about women's health and injury prevention and that passion comes through in everything she talks about.

In one of the most enjoyable conversations I have had on the podcast, we spoke for about an hour about how to get back into running safely when you're post-partum.

How long before you can start back up?
What are the things you should be focusing on first.
Why muscle activation is at the basis of every good post-partum/rehab program.
Why the psoas muscle is soo ridiculously important, and yet too often ignored by coaches and trainers.
Why foamrolling is the number one thing every runner should do post-partum (but make sure you do it properly!!!)

    And much, MUCH, more.

    Jessica's FREE webinar www.runpainfreenow.com/free-training

Her new book; www.runpainfreenow.com/book Even I am getting myself a copy of this, and I HATE running!! This book is guaranteed to be worth it's weight in gold in terms of knowledge

In the News this week; I took it from the IHCAN editor's note but the paper listed in this Guardian article is fascinating, if slightly depressing, reading. 1 in 10 of all medications prescribed in England are NOT necessary and a lot more medication is prescribed when lifestyle changes would be significantly more beneficial. I don't think this comes as a schock to anyone familiar with the NHS but it does highlight the need for change.

Push Your Limit #004: Du liebst Laufen?

    I can't bloody stand running

In which I talk at length on the many and varied reasons why I am categorically Not A Runner; I explain why you really don't want Jamie as a passenger in your car; I share probably the blog's greatest achievement to date; my dad receives a somewhat startling reward for the completion of a half marathon; I discover that it's impossible to run without sounding like a phone sex pest; I share the world's worst hangover cure and muse on whether there's anyone left in the world who hasn't yet tried Couch to 5k; my friend and I terrorise both an AA man and an old lady; my Race For Life experience does not go entirely to plan; I break my parkrun vomiting PB; and I share my most mortifying running moment of all.

ChiRunning with Bestselling Author Danny Dreyer! 053

This is a conversation we've wanted to have for years! Danny Dreyer made the realization that the Eastern practice of tai chi could be integrated with his Western lifestyle and running, and ChiRunning was born! Balance, mindfulness, yin and yang, connection, and movement all join forces in his running techniques. He has written several books, but the bestseller ChiRunning: A Revolutionary Approach To Effortless, Injury-Free Running was the one that caught our attention years ago and helped us and our clients run and walk effectively and safely. We are so grateful to Danny and his fantastic work!

Study shows training based on WHOOP recovery improves performance, reduces injury

Study shows training based on WHOOP recovery improves performance, reduces injury

On this week’s episode, we cover the results of Project PR, a study in the value of using the WHOOP recovery metric to guide your training. This study showed that runners who used the recovery score to help determine their daily training load over an 8-week period improved their times significantly and sustained fewer injuries than those who used a static training program. WHOOP VP of Data Science and Research Emily Capodilupo and WHOOP Marketing Manager of Women’s Performance and Running Allison Lynch talk with Mary Cain, who served as one of the coaches for the program. Mary is a world-class runner in her own right and was the youngest person to ever represent the United States at the World Championships. They discuss Mary’s New York Times op-ed on culture issues in the running world (3:38), body image in sports (7:05), optimizing performance for women (9:57), avoiding overtraining with WHOOP (12:27) , balancing green, yellow, and red recoveries (15:18), Project PR (16:28), structuring the study (18:52), key takeaways (24:04), training to HRV (30:40), becoming an elite athlete (33:50),  and sleep and performance (37:52).

Runner's World Founder: Bob Anderson - building a media empire, meeting his idols, and continuing to innovate

Runner's World Founder: Bob Anderson - building a media empire, meeting his idols, and continuing to innovate

We have an incredibly special treat for you guys today. Bob Anderson is the founder of Runner's World. Yup, that Runner's World. The incredibly popular magazine that Bob started while in high school. In today's conversation you'll learn about the state of running in the 1960s and how a high school kid was able to build one of the most popular magazines in the world.

You'll learn about how Bob got to meet some of his idols, including Hal Higdon, Ted Corbitt, Billy Mills, Steve Prefontaine, and even Ronald Reagan. We get into the story of Bob's film, A Long Run, where he celebrated 50 years of running with an incredible challenge. The goal was to complete 50 races at a distance of 350 miles (563.27 km), and to average 7:00 per mile at the age of 64.

I won't give away the ending, but you have to hear the stories behind the challenge. We get into the new type of racing that Bob has invented the double race. And we get to hear about the new training camps in Kenya, that Bob is building that you can take apart in. Finally, Bob has this incredible story of the Boston marathon because the one year that he got to run

I was also the year of the bombing. Our full conversation with Bob was almost an hour and 45 minutes. And honestly we could have kept going.

If you want to hear the full version, join our community at https://community.racemob.com.   And you can hear all the bonus stories that we couldn't fit here.

Move or Die! (The Exercise Your Body Needs)

Move or Die! (The Exercise Your Body Needs)
Few topics that health enthusiasts obsess over are more loved and hated than exercise. It is the centerpiece for many diet programs, and is at the heart of any strength training program. Many programs are fads, but the underlying reality is that we must either move or die. The body requires a certain amount of activity to keep the cardiovascular and respiratory systems working properly. Muscles obviously need to be flexed, stretched, and rested. But the bones also are designed to bear weight. If they don't, they will de-calcify quickly. Without healthy blood, every other organ will begin to fail. Even former athletes will deteriorate and die of diseases typical of a sedentary lifestyle unless there is some form of regular physical activity. Join us as we discuss the most loved and hated aspect of health maintenance.

    Macht Sport Kinder intelligent?

    Macht Sport Kinder intelligent?
Keywords: Intelligenztraining - Gehirnjogging - Kognitives Training - adaptives Koordinationstraining - Life Kinetik - Horst Lutz - Felix Neureuther - Dortmund - Matthias Grünke - n-back-Training - motorisches Training - geistige Flexibilität - Verbesserung der Balance - Aufmerksamkeitskontrolle - Exekutive Funktionen - Kinder mit Lernproblemen - Life Kinetik vs. typische Sportspiele - Single-Blind-Studie - Versuchsleitereffekte - d2-Aufmerskamkeitstest - Zahlenverbindungstest - fluide Intelligenz - Verarbeitungsgeschwindigkeit - Tanzen - Kattenstroth - Jogging - Walking - Nordic Walking - aerobes Ausdauertraining - Meta-Analyse von Smith et al.
