    Ep. #83 Navigating The Social Stigma Of Not Drinking

    Although we are a culture obsessed with alcohol, an epidemic that has been normalized, the story that there is a "normal" way to drink and you will be shunned if you can't do it that way, is what needs to change.
    Does anyone know what that is?
    There is a trap of: if I don't drink I won't be normal.
    Other people will wonder what's wrong with me.
    I hear this from too many people.
    There are now enough people who don't believe in : drinking is a normal story, so we can drop it.
    Not to mention, peer pressure as an adult?
    No thanks.
    When you dismantle the beliefs around alcohol you have to go DEEPER.
    You have to interrogate, with compassion, your own self and values.
    WHO is everybody?
    WHAT is normal?
    WHEN is this happening and WHERE?
    Are people really thinking this or is a just what you are creating in your head?
    You're decision to drink or not drink will be interpreted differently by everyone.
    Someone might think your a hero, someone might think your a buzzkill, but most people will be worried about themselves, not how much you are drinking.
    Another persons enjoyment is NOT dependent on your actions.
    It is dependent on THEIR thoughts and emotions about it.

    Show up like the life of the party and no one can say a thing!
    Show up like you and have your own back.
    More power to you, Sister. It's time to throw a better party and take responsibility for your own health and livelyhood. Caring what other people think is no longer a necessary part of our survival.
    When YOU do YOU, you will attract the same.
    Be you, all the way.
    If there is a collective STIGMA, it's well worn and out of date.

    The reason you think you can’t change your relationship to alcohol is the solution to success.

    The perceived obstacle are ALWAYS the reason to say YES!
    You have to be willing to be resourceful to get the result you want. 

    The human brain makes decisions based on the past.

    Part of your brain feels good about the decision of drinking. 

    Not drinking creates Thoughts that create Emotional Discomfort.

    When you are not use Feeling the sensations of emotions, making a decision to change and embrace feeling, signals danger to your brain. 
    Your job is to move to the other side to prove that objection false.
    This is how to weaken the habit.

    Today you will learn:

    How to spot your objections that are getting in the way of creating lasting change.

    How you move from impossible to possible.

    Common objections for why people never start the process and how their objection is the reason they need to.

    The difference between passive and massive action.

    What thoughts to think NOW to take the ONE next step. 

    Common Objections To Say NO To Changing Your Relationship To Alcohol.
    Remember, these are all SUBJECTIVE THOUGHTS, not FACTS.

    +It’s not the right time. 

    + I’m too busy to do the work

    Problems are unexpected or undesirable results in the circumstances of your life, yet rather than move towards them, the typical response, is to run. 

    The mind thinks there is a threat and avoids the sensations of the emotion at all costs.

    It looks to blame, avoid or run. 
    Anything but take a wider view of where your intention may have got lost in the pattern of reactivity and emotion. 

    Nothing has gone wrong. It is normal to see change as a problem and their for a threat to survival. 
    However, in our modern world, change is a good thing. 

    It indicates growth and opportunity.

    If you are willing to feel a new emotion, it can become a portal for possibility.

    Why can some people can drink without problems?
    Because they don't try to say no!
    Most people have a made up story in their minds about how: she can just have one glass of wine and it's so easy. 

    NO!!!

    First, Why does this matter?

    Second:  I just want to be able to have a little glass of wine.

    Why?

    There’s nothing wrong with having a glass of wine, or having five.

    It also doesn’t change or make your life better in anyway.
    That's not REALLY what you or the habit wants.
    Part of you doesn't want it to be true that alcohol is habit forming. 
    Sorry to break it to you, there is no way around it.
    And second, the habit has no interest in a glass of wine once a week. 

    The habit of alcohol fractures your inner resilience.

    What your perception is and what the reality is.

    Frequency and Duration, Circumstance , Adversity and Internal resources CAN play a role in persons journey away from the habit. 
    But not always.

    Your brain developed a pattern, a totally normal one that says:

    When you experience this emotion, for better or worse, the answer is to drink. 

    You will learn:
    *Why other people’s drinking is none of your business.

    *Why that story is holding you back from living your best life.

    *The impact other peoples actions are  having in other areas of your life.

    *The solution isn't simply, no alcohol, it's more of YOU.

    *The role of emotional maturity.

    *How labels limit.

    Ep. #77 How to Say NO To Alcohol, and LOVE it.

    How To Say No, and love it.

    Planning ahead of time is the greatest honor you can give yourself.

    But it's not just in the
    Action of what you will do or not. It's the Emotion and the Thought that create your success and drives your intention into fruition.

    When you think about doing something, you think about HOW YOU WILL FEEL based on past evidence.

    Our brains jump into fight or flight mode before the actual event has even take place.

    We create a hypothetical situation that effects the body and creates emotions, even before it happens. 

    Think about the anticipation of a drink: it is even more satisfying than the drink itself. 
    OR that NOT drinking will be the worst thing ever.
    These thoughts are so powerful you can FEEL IT now.

    If these thoughts, before the event, are actually producing an emotion and sensations in the body,
    why not think the thoughts that produce the emotion for SUCCESS?!?

    This is how we do it during our 1:1 Coaching sessions.

    The results: MIND BLOWING.

    1st date Alcohol Free: Curious, charming, open.
    1st Vacation Alcohol Free: Excited, adventurous clam.
    1st Job Interview Alcohol Free: Confident, Neutral, Present....

    Then we generate the THOUGHTS that create the EMOTIONS based on our underlying intention of why we are doing these things in the first place, it's never usually just to drink.

    This list goes on...

    Your brain is a POWER HOUSE!

    Yet, we create the worst case scenario.

    Until you start practicing thinking on purpose,  slowing down, growing your awareness,

    your brain will go into default mode of NO drinking, meaning the worst thing ever.

    Instead of dreading the evening, you can decide how to feel ahead of time, rather than HOW you think you will feel.

    Game. Changer.

    In todays episode learn:

    How to say No to a drink without an excuse.

    How to plan for social events without feeling deprived and have a great time.

    Take control of your life by planning on purpose.

    How to decide ahead of time how you will feel, instead of leaving it up to old thought patterns and circumstance.

    When it comes to changing your relationship with alcohol, your Emotions and Thoughts directly impact the rate (the ETA) at which you achieve success. 
    The very specific Emotion and Thought is what’s going to drive the Action to eventually achieve the goal or result you want in life. 

    In today’s episode you will learn:
    *The exact process I teach my clients to maintain emotional and mental hygiene.
    *How our emotions and thoughts become habitual, just like drinking, how to identify and interrupt them.
    *Learn HOW to manage your mind, honor your emotions and create the formula to inspire *Action, to achieve any goal, including, changing the habit of drinking.
    *Understand the thoughts getting you stuck are creating low vibrating emotions.
    * How inaction is also an action and a choice.
    *How to self coach yourself in any situation to get one step closer to no longer desiring alcohol.
    *How to spot and interrupt habitual thought patterning that is keeping you stuck and drinking.
    *Learn how to create your dreams on purpose instead of reacting to the circumstances of life.


    I use the term ETA as a double meaning. It really represents your Emotions, Thoughts and Actions.  
    That combination will also determine your Estimated time of arrival to your destination. Habitual ETA’s that have become your routine are often negative and fear based. Intentional ETA’s are what you MUST generate in order to achieve NEW goals and get to NEW places in your life. 
    Example: After work (habitual thought pattern that you are unaware of)
    Emotion: overwhelmed
    Thought: Work is so stressful
    Action: Drink
    Result: Numb the emotion (leave the work stress until tomorrow)

    Example: After work (new ETA generated on purpose)
    Emotion: calm
    Thought: I'm so glad I am home to relax
    Action: go to bed early
    Result: Feel refreshed ready to respond with grace to life

    The other option is: Why is work so stressful? Why is that a problem? Is that true? Does drinking solve the REAL issues at work? 

    AND... there is also simply FEELING the emotion without changing it at all. Putting your legs up the wall and breathing the day away.

    Boredom and Loneliness: How to process emotional cravings. Nothing has gone wrong! These are the two biggest emotions people try to solve with alcohol. Why? We think they are wrong and bad. You make them mean something is wrong with you. Emotions are not problems to be solved, they are experiences to have. What are you making it mean about you and how is that compounding your judgement?     Why does alcohol seem so important to you, even when it doesn’t add any real value or meaning to your life?

    The experiences you are having are happening with or without alcohol, so what’s the deal?

    From the day we are born, we experience trauma. We are set to become "socialized", told we need to be different than how we would naturally act. Some of this to protect our lives, some of it to preserve the power over model.  Alcohol is a way to numb what already feels so disconnected. Who you ARE and who you think you are "suppose" to be.  Alcohol will never be what you want it to be. It is a temporary illusion. The real solution lives inside of becoming more of you, without apology.

As my guest today, Tricia Lewis, of Recovery Happy Hour explains, as you grow from alcohol, the way you show up to your life and recovery will too. Don't get stuck in a box.  Tricia shares with us her story of perfectionism and having to detox from alcohol when she could no longer get away with functioning at the rate she was going. She discovered that you could be addicted to alcohol and look normal on the outside.  As she explored various modalities of recovery, the one thing she knew she needed and didn't want to loose, was community after being in the service industry for so many years. She created the amazing podcast, Recovery Happy Hour, to support those on the journey of recovery and share the diversity of stories and ways to seek support so all people can find a way to connect and know they are never alone on this road.

    Ep. #69 How To Start The Process Of Stopping

    Decisions, decisions. The better we get at making decisions, the better our lives become. We will always have a brain that wants to default to the negative until you practice observation. Ever thought in your brain, even if you BELIVE it with all your heart, creates a vibration, an emotion. When you tell yourself, I don't have the time, money, energy, even if you believe it, what EMOTION does it generate? One of fear and lack. If you try on a new thought to: I am in charge of my schedule so I can make whatever I want a priority, you can see how the vibe changes. What are your thoughts about WHY you haven't started the process of stopping> Chances are they are generating negative emotions, compounding the desire to drink and the story that to stop drinking is too hard. Ditch the story, let it stay where it is, and find some new better feeling or neutral thoughts.  And remember, there are no WRONG decisions, there are only your thoughts about them. Take this as truth and you take your power back.

    How many times have you googled, "Am I am alcoholic"? or some version of that?  As we start seeing the illusions of the old models of power over and limiting beliefs, fade into the back ground, the invitation in the aquarian age, is to stop asking permission. You decide how much is too much. Dismantling alcohol mean stepping into your power and standing in your truth. To stop needing the right thing to say to someone when they ask why you aren't drinking. To be able to love yourself, the other AND tell the truth. The aquarian age is about living 5D, where paradox is the way of life.  It's way more fun. You don't need to break the rules, there are none. The are all illusions.  It's not either or, it's both and.  The truth is, alcohol is stripping you of your life light, your prana, your grace, the holy spirit within. Whether it's one drink a week or 20, there is an unnatural alteration. We aren't saying NO to alcohol. The future of joyful living is evolving past the need to alter ones natural state of being.

    Ep. #67 Resolve To Commit, Not Quit

    For this final episode of the year, I talk about the process of commitment. The traditional New Years Resolution, comes with no parameters other than to "resolve" to change, usually the action. Something we think we should do to be better or healthier. We can not be successful in having a new , healthier relationship to alcohol by simply NOT DRINKING. To resolve to something is to learn a new way, to commit to a new process. This takes time. You have never become an expert at anything over night. You most certainly didn't develop a drinking habit over night. You must be compassionate with yourself and offer yourself time to learn a new way, seek new awarenesses, educate yourself with new tools and practice them until they become THE new way. There is no quick fix, but there is an easier way to UNLEAERN the habit of drinking. The first step, resolve to commit, not just quit.  It takes loving yourself more, and deep trust in the process of surrender.
