Episode 93: Say "Yes" To Adventure

Episode 93: Say "Yes" To Adventure

In this solo episode, I share my current travel experiences in Sumbawa, Indonesia. It has been such an epic experience so far, being able to say "yes" to adventure. I've been learning to trust myself more, to pour my trust into others, and to learn how to go with the flow instead of how we think life should go. If there is anything trip has shown me so far, it's that life does not always go the way we expect it to and to follow the flow with what feels most in alignment. Intuition is a beautiful navigator and we need to listen to our gut instinct when listening to our intuition.

John O'Leary - my friend and mentor, comes through with a simple, yet powerful mindset to have.  When it comes to those relationships we have in our lives that are important to us, we need to say YES more to them.  When it comes to doing some things that are good for ourselves, having good habits, health, relationships, finances,  learning new things, getting out of our comfort zone more oftent, etc., we need to say YES more often.  Check out John's podcast HERE  and see for yourself on what an all-star he really is.  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.

    Have a crack

Pablo Miller is the pride of Karratha, Western Australia. He is the host of the morning show, 'Pablo for Breakfast' on Triple M, and is a celebrity of the town.  After many years of travel and experiencing what the world has to offer, he settled down to a career in the media over 10 years ago. A job offer in radio moved him from Melbourne to Karratha at that time. Little did he know that, within weeks of arriving, he would meet his wife-to-be, fall in love with her and fall in love with the town of Karratha.

Pablo is having a powerfully positive effect on and in that community. In fact, he is currently he is on the campaign trail, as he is running for Mayor of Karratha. One of the things I love about Pablo is his desire to squeeze the most out of life, make a difference in people's lives, and have a crack at the exciting opportunities that come his way. Most people would balk at running for office and talk themselves out if it. Pablo has the attitude of, why not just give it a go and see what happens.

His mission is to help the community become more connected. In this podcast we discuss the three C's that he believes will most effectively help the people of Karratha, and consequently the community. You will need to list all the way through to find out what the three C's are, and why it would be good for you to incorporate them in your own life. Don't miss this wonderful conversation with Pablo Miller.

60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Might Happen When We Say Yes! to Walking the Hero’s Journey?

60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: What Might Happen When We Say Yes! to Walking the Hero’s Journey?

Hello to you listening in Roseau, Capital of Dominica, Lesser Antilles!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Many people are under the impression that the Hero’s Journey made famous by Joseph Campbell is about an external journey to vanquish foes and return with some Truth.

In truth, the real journey is an internal one. The Hero is called to a task that is not at the surface of her being; rather, the task requires her to do what I have called for some 30 years now an “archeological dig on oneself.” It’s serious stuff. No wonder the Hero resists.

We think we can remain emotionally safe by hiding our vulnerability. The problem is that as long as we resist the call (and I know well how I resisted the call to leave behind my Voiceless Victim self) we will never be able to live our Truth, never experience our Essence.

Yes, the Hero goes out on a quest; but that external journey is just the stage on which the story is played. Saying Yes! to the Hero’s Journey begins the inner journey work, the transformation that allows us to move out of our fear to courage, from being stuck in our old identity to living alive and awake, realizing our true potential, fulfilling our destiny, or experiencing our longed-for heart’s desire.

Story Prompt: What are you finally ready to trade by saying Yes! to walking the Hero’s Journey? Write that story!

Say Yes to the Dress - Too Good to be True // Scott Landry

Say Yes to the Dress - Too Good to be True // Scott Landry
Do you believe in, “love at first sight?” Some do. Some don’t But it happens. It happens all the time. Is this important? Yes. When it comes to romance, practically speaking, we’re willing to allow the undeniable to eclipse the unexplainable. As it is with love, so it is with faith. Most adults who become Christians do so because something happens along the way that makes them willing to carry into their relationship with Jesus some things that are absolutely unexplainable. In part 3 of this series, we’re going to discover how to focus on what is undeniable as opposed to what is unexplainable.

Say Yes to the Dress - The Wedding Planner// Scott Landry

Say Yes to the Dress - The Wedding Planner// Scott Landry
A destination wedding somewhere hot. A traditional wedding in an old church. Everyone wants their wedding day to be perfect, and everybody has a different definition of what perfect is. In part 2 of this series, we’re going to discover that while each of us has made assumptions as to who God is and what he should do, it is actually God who ultimately designed and defines what perfection is and what will make a relationship with him possible.

Say Yes to the Dress - Pop the Question // Scott Landry

Say Yes to the Dress - Pop the Question // Scott Landry
Contrary to what many people say, marriages don’t work because two people are “focused on their marriage.” Marriages work when two people are focused on each other. In a similar way, while questions are valid and important, most adults don’t become followers of Jesus by getting all their questions answered. In most instances, something happens that causes them to focus on the person of Jesus, as opposed to their questions about Jesus. In the New Testament, the church is referred to as “the bride of Christ,” and in part 1 of this series, we’re going to unpack the reality that you don’t have to understand everything to say “yes” to someone and say “yes” to the dress.

Do you ever feel like obeying God in the small things can be even harder than in the big things? How can we be so good at following Him to the ends of the earth and then get tripped up in the day-to-day things He’s asking us to do? In this episode, we talk about the struggles and joys of obedience with Modern Day missionaries Jonathan and Amanda Vining.

INSPIRATION SERIES: Saying YES When OPPORTUNITY Comes Knocking | Living A Nautical Life With Suzanne Webster

INSPIRATION SERIES: Saying YES When OPPORTUNITY Comes Knocking | Living A Nautical Life With Suzanne Webster

One thing is for certain; when opportunity shows up, it is usually not the "right time". And so we let fear speak for us as we pass it up. But what would happen if you said yes, no matter if it was the right time or not. Who knows what could lie on the other side of that "yes".

Suzanne Webster and her husband Steven have lived by that motto as they have made huge life moves over the years - uprooting and moving across the country with three teens, then selling their home and moving onto a boat, and finally traveling the waters of the Pacific Northwest for months at a time.

Suzanne tells us about the decisions they have made and what life is like aboard their "salty girl" Fortitude. We talk about empty nests and having kids spread out across the world and how their approach to exploring opportunities has afforded their kids to do the same.

You won't want to miss this very fun episode and then go find Suzanne and Fortitude on instagram HERE.

Tune into their show on em-radio.com RADIO FORTITUDE every second and fourth Sunday morning at 9am PST.

Welcome back to Part 2 of my conversation with Susanne Mueller who shares what is at the root of luck. Susanne revealed that her luck was born of a willingness to see life’s challenges for what they really were: an opportunity to show up, say Yes!, take it on, and help others. I asked Susanne who taught her the courage to risk. Let’s rejoin the conversation as Susanne shares with us her Life journey and how risk-taking and saying Yes! informs her podcast, Take It From the Iron Woman, her blog, and her international CEO consulting and coaching practice

EP13 - Saying Yes To Opportunities

EP13 - Saying Yes To Opportunities

Hello everyone. It is Brett Williams here with Moments of Wisdom with Brett Williams. Now I'm gonna be straight up here. Right now, I'm looking at all of the other episodes that I've gone through on that side and going, Ah, cool. Had really good structures for all of those. And today the reality is that I just want to talk.

So sit back and listen. I have no idea where today's episode is going to go, but there's a few things that have been going on in my world that have, uh, I guess you could say shaped a few thoughts and th and that side of things. And I know there's some, there's good stuff in there. So I've got a bit of a, a structure, got a bit of an idea.

Uh, but at the end of the day, I am going to just use today's episode just to be able to share some thoughts and hopefully there's some wisdom in there that you are able to gather and take it for your own life as well. And the first and focus that I'm gonna go on to today is to looking into opportunities.

Now, opportunity is something that, uh, you can see when it comes up and perhaps there's a conversation that goes on in your head that. I have no idea how to be able to do that. And I would agree that not every opportunity is an opportunity to say yes to. However, there are definitely opportunities that have probably presented themselves to you that may have scared you a little bit and may have, uh, had you questioned whether or not you can actually do it.

And from that sort of things you've got and said.  now. These are the opportunities that I wanna talk about today recently, as those who have, uh, been following along with this podcast for. The few episodes that I've done over a slightly longer period of time will know that I, I've got a few different things that I focus on, marketing agency and, uh, the main one, uh, coaching business, which is also being revamped at the moment.

So, um, stay tuned for that one. But also recently, I've actually got back into the drafting world. So, uh, AutoCAD architect, like not architectural, but uh, more along the lines of AutoCAD, uh, and that side of things. So designing. Not doing this, but this is what I used to do, designing chz tanks, conveyors for mining process plants.

But there was an opportunity that came about that's allowed me to start a, basically a drafting agency. So for any engineers out there that might be listening, or anybody who is an architect or anybody along those lines that is needing a drafting team to be able to create all of their AutoCAD drawings cause they don't wanna be doing it themselves, then that is essentially what we can.

Um, here at RP drafting. Might as well throw that in there. The website in the process at the moment is, uh, still a work in progress, but head over to to rp group.co and you'll be able to find some more information about there. Anyway, , that was a bit of a shameless plug that I, I actually didn't have any intentions of doing, but I wanted to talk more about the opportunity side of things.

Recently, uh, this opportunity presented itself, but it meant that there was gonna be a few sacrifices on my side, but also at the same time, I was massively stepping outta my own comfort zone. The area of work that we're doing these days, or within the drafting world now is actually residential home, uh, structural drafting now working with a structural engineering client that has, um, architectural, uh, clients themselves that send through the details and basically needing the structural designs done.

Now, I've never, ever drawn a house in my life. Um, I did work in the housing industry for a little bit. I understand at least here in Australia, you know, some of. Uh, I guess design principles that happened for a house and stuff like that. But at the end of the day, it was something that I had absolutely no idea about.

Now this is what I wanna come back to, I guess you could say within today's, uh, moments of wisdom, saying yes to those opportunities, but saying yes to it in a way that, uh, gives yourself a little bit of leeway. Now, These are the opportunities that you may be questioning whether or not you can actually do it, whether or not , you have the knowledge, the spirits, um, whatever it is.

Now, I'm not saying go and promise the world and, and completely under, under deliver. What I'm saying is that when I got into this position, I said, Look, My experience in the past has been over here. I've not done it over here, but I understand at least the fundamental basics of the software. And that was realistically the, the core part of the actual, uh, conversation that was had and.

From that point in time, the expectation within this opportunity wasn't that I was the expert, it was a case of leveraging their knowledge to be able to set up the systems and team, which I've already started to set up all the systems and team. So from that part, I'm almost hands off for the, uh, the first client and being able to start looking into more clients and that sort.

But that's a side comment. So when it comes to talking about the opportunity side of things, saying yes to it, What I'm, what I always say when somebody asks me about starting a business or, um, you know, going down that path, you need to at least have what I say, 5% knowledge. Now 5% is probably a little bit too small.

Um, But at the end of the day, you need to have a level of knowledge that is kind of something that you can use as your foundation. So for me, in this opportunity, I understood all of this AutoCAD software and understood the basic design principles and all of this sort of stuff. Great. , I have that 5% knowledge.

There's a whole punch of other knowledge that I didn't have, but I had at least that core part of the knowledge. And so that is something that is very, very crucial with saying yes to the opportunities, have that 5% knowledge. Now, , the chances are if you are anything like I, I'm gonna say used to be, but the reality is, is still probably kind of a little bit, but I've definitely got better at it these days.

I'm a sort of person who likes to know 100% everything. Before I do anything. And so coming back to that rule of having that 5% knowledge is something that is going to be very contradictive to that. There's no questions about it. However, what it does is it gives you the, the foot in the door because you, at the end of the day, you do not know what that opportunity is going to lead you to in that side.

So, Um, having that 5% and knowing that with every step that you mo move forward, you, it, it is just a conversation away from gathering more information. And that's the biggest thing. Communication is a big part of all of this. Something I teach in some of the, in the coaching programs on that side, but it.

It's being able to, again, set those expectations, know that you've got that foundational knowledge and being able to, to move forward from there and know, and this is probably a big part, understanding how you learn and knowing that with every day that you are able to learn more and to grow and that side of things.

And I'll be honest. It's been seriously uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, I know what I'm doing. And I guess actually probably another bit, as I said, today's gonna be a bit around the place, but there's a few different thoughts that are flowing through my head in and around this. It's about knowing the end goal as well.

So coming into this and saying yes to the opportunity, I knew I had at least 5% know. , I knew I had a clear picture as to what I was going to create through this opportunity, and it's that middle part in there that has been the part where it's about learning. Growing knowing that I'll figure it out.

Because if you've listened to, uh, episode 10 talking about trusting yourself and talking about your true traits and really being able to know who you are and talking about the one of those traits being resiliency and that side of things, then you know that you can keep moving forward. So at the end of the day, I'm gonna challenge you if you have an opportunity that is showing up right now.

Uh, Could be business, it could be career, it could be personal, it could be whatever it is, and it's something that you feel like you could give it a go and it may or may not open up a door. That could be something bigger. On the other side of it, I'm gonna challenge you as long as you have 5% knowledge around that thing, whatever it is, and a clear outcome that you would want to achieve from that opportunity to say yes to that opportu.

To say yes to it and say yes to yourself, as well as kind of like a bit of a cliche thing, but you know, it is, it's saying yes to that growth. And at the end of the day, if we're here and we're just sitting, still sitting dormant, doing the exact same things day in, day out, is that really living at the end of the day?

I've got a, uh, I guess a, a decision making, uh, philosophy in my head. It kind of goes along the lines of, of Steve Jobs. . Whereas for mine it's a little bit different. It's a case of if I'm laying on my deathbed, will I regret doing this or not doing this? And depending on which way that answer is, I obviously make that decision.

So I challenge you to do the exact same challenge yourself to say yes to the opportunities, cuz you never know what might come out from the other side of it. At the end of the. Rounding out my story. What has come out of it is a very, what is starting to become a very lucrative, uh, business that is going to.

Solve a solution for many, many individuals, uh, within the mining and, uh, design space. So that's huge in itself an opportunity that I kind of had a bit of a feeling that that was gonna be my outcome. That's where I wanted to head. Uh, but now it's starting to really paint that picture and that side of thing.

So, um, I challenge you to say yes. I challenge you to, to go after that opportunity. And as I said at the very, very start of this one today, I didn't really know where we were gonna go with this particular episode, but I'm gonna be honest, I wanted to just get in front of the microphone because it's been way too long and with a few changes in my own world, I plan to get back into this a little bit more consistently in that side of thing.

So stay tuned and I will speak to you shortly. So, yeah.

Sometimes we can talk ourselves out of something amazingly awesome.

Join me today as I share some stories where this has popped up in our own lives and how we move past it, refusing to let it stop us from the awesome possibilities waiting for us on the other side.

We are rarely going to have all the answers up front and we can't predict the future. Instead, we need to learn how to let things unfold without stressing ourselves out worrying about all the negative possible futures.

Life is an adventure, so enjoy the ride!

    Favorite Quotes

04:16 - "One of the most exciting things that I get to do in business is the collaboration, to work with leaders and really share, combine, and to work together to execute what we want to accomplish in the end." - Jill Blankenship

06:24 - "It's critical to put together a business plan, and the business plan is a working document. When you come up with a concept of a business, it's exciting, you're seeing the big picture, you're seeing the highlights, and you're seeing the end result. But you don't always see the little steps that are going to get you there. So by writing the business plan, that really becomes your playbook." - Jill Blankenship

17:36 - "Being a woman in technology, does that change the game a little bit? I'm a firm believer that as long as you know the rules and how to play the game, gender doesn't matter. The problem is a lot of people don't take the time to learn the rules of how to play the game." - Ron Halbert and Jill Blankenship

28:58 - "It's been nice to bring in leaders, empower the leaders, pay that forward, give them something they love doing, which is being a president of one of the companies, that achieves their goals. And they're now happy and proud. I'm proud, it's a win-win situation." -  Jill Blankenship

30:22 - "You don't just throw it over the fence and hope someone grabs it and runs with it. And that's where that mentoring, that coaching, and that empowerment really comes into play. It is preparing that person for success. You don't want to set somebody up for failure or frustration or even disappointment. You want to set them up to be the best that they can be." - Jill Blankenship
