The Shadow CDC is a group of experts empaneled by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to discuss COVID policies and address harms caused by them. Many believe that COVID policies emerged earlier than officially acknowledged, with significant consequences. The Shadow CDC includes notable figures like Jay Bhattacharya, Martin Kulldorff, and Christine Stabell Ben. Governor DeSantis and his team are pursuing a grand jury investigation into malfeasance during COVID.

    • Mismanagement of COVID-19 response and vaccine injuriesThe top-down, coercive approach to handling the COVID-19 pandemic, including the mishandling of vaccine injuries, has led to mistrust and the rise of anti-vaxxers.

The response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the handling of vaccine injuries, has been callous and mismanaged, leading to mistrust and the creation of anti-vaxxers. The speaker argues that decision-making around the virus, from its discovery to the implementation of lockdowns and vaccines, was top-down and coercive, bypassing the expertise of medical professionals. This approach created a sense of urgency that was no longer effective once it was clear the virus had been circulating for months. The mishandling of vaccine injuries, with governmental bureaucrats denying their existence and refusing to acknowledge the harm caused, only worsened the situation. This callousness and lack of transparency have created a significant backlash against vaccines and public health measures.

    • Disagreement on the role of vaccines in responding to COVID-19The delay in identifying and responding to COVID-19 may have been motivated by economic gains, and disagreement over vaccine use stems from a misguided context, as their emergency use authorization made no sense given their actual efficacy and negative consequences.

The delay in identifying and responding to the novel COVID-19 virus may have led to significant time and resources wasted, as doctors lacked the necessary knowledge to effectively treat the disease. This delay may have been motivated by economic gains for those who withheld information, as the time traveling money printer hypothesis suggests. During a panel discussion, there was disagreement on the role of vaccines in a rational response to COVID-19. While some believed they were justified for certain vulnerable individuals, others, including Dr. Weinstein, argued they should never have been administered due to their novel and potentially dangerous nature. The disagreement stems from a well-intentioned but misguided context, as emergency use authorization of these vaccines, given their actual efficacy and negative consequences, made no sense.

    • EUAs for COVID-19 vaccines questioned due to safety and efficacy concerns, lack of peer-reviewed evidenceClaims of lives saved and hospitalizations prevented by COVID-19 vaccines lack transparency and raise concerns about data reliability

The EUAs for COVID-19 vaccines were questionable given the availability of effective treatments at the time. The EUAs were based on clinical trials with questionable safety and efficacy data. Furthermore, a blog post often cited as evidence of the vaccines' life-saving impact is actually just a report, not peer-reviewed research. The author argues that the EUAs and their widespread administration, disregarding age stratification, were illegitimate. Despite claims of millions of lives saved and hospitalizations prevented, the evidence supporting these claims is not transparent and raises concerns about the reliability of such data.

    • Yale Study on COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Faces CriticismThe Yale School of Public Health study on COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness faced criticism for presenting assumptions as facts and lacking transparency in research methods, emphasizing the importance of rigorous scientific research and transparency in reporting.

The Yale School of Public Health study, which was widely referenced in discussions about COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness, was criticized for presenting assumptions as facts and lacking transparency in research methods. This issue highlights the importance of rigorous scientific research and transparency in reporting. Additionally, the politicization of science during the pandemic has made it a divisive topic, causing harm to public health. The vaccines, which have been proven to save millions of lives, have become a contentious issue. The latest development in this context is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' call for an investigation into COVID-19 vaccine-related wrongdoing in Florida. However, without more information, it is unclear what the governor is asking for. Overall, it is crucial to promote scientific literacy and evidence-based decision-making to combat the politicization of science and protect public health.

    • Study on COVID-19 vaccine savings raises concerns of lack of transparency and circular reasoningThe Yale School of Public Health study on COVID-19 vaccine savings is questionable due to unrealistic assumptions, potential circular reasoning, and lack of assessment on actual lives saved.

A blog post from the Yale School of Public Health claiming that COVID-19 vaccines have saved lives based on published estimates has raised serious concerns due to the lack of transparency and potential circular reasoning in the study. Critics argue that the model used in the research requires unrealistic assumptions, and the estimates themselves may not be accurate. Moreover, the study did not assess whether the vaccines actually saved lives, only that they were effective based on the estimates. Some experts believe this is a knowing lie, as it was promoted to the highest levels despite its questionable validity. The lack of transparency and potential circular reasoning in the study undermines the credibility of the findings and highlights the importance of rigorous scientific inquiry and transparency in communicating research results.

    • Editor thanks Fauci for science commitment, pushing back against misinformationFauci's commitment to scientific truth and pushing back against misinformation is crucial in today's world where misinformation creates a fictional scientific reality, but his dedication to science has saved millions of lives through vaccines.

Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding COVID-19 vaccinations and interventions, Dr. Anthony Fauci's unwavering commitment to scientific truth and his ability to push back against misinformation continues to be recognized and celebrated. The editor in chief of Science Magazine recently published an editorial thanking Fauci for his contributions to science and his unyielding stance against misinformation. Fauci's dedication to conveying that science is a process and not a collection of facts set in stone is crucial in the face of the increasing prevalence of misinformation. The absurdity of the situation, where misinformation has created a fictional scientific reality, is both unfortunate and amusing. Regardless, it's important to remember the real-world impact of vaccines, as they have saved millions of lives and prevented countless hospitalizations.

    • Understanding the controversy over COVID-19 mortality data and the role of vaccinesThe importance of accurate data and critical thinking in understanding the impact of the pandemic and related public health measures is emphasized, with concerns raised over the misrepresentation of information and the need for proper scientific investigation into excess mortality.

The discussion revolves around the controversy surrounding the data on COVID-19 mortality and the role of vaccines. The speaker expresses concern over the misrepresentation of information and the dehumanizing effects of tribalism in politics. The Yale School of Public Health blog post, which has gained significant attention, is criticized for its inaccuracies and the subsequent dismissive reaction from the audience. The speaker also references the need for proper scientific investigation into excess mortality and the importance of considering all possible factors contributing to spikes in death counts. The WHO report published in Nature this week, which shows both reported COVID-19 deaths and excess mortality, is highlighted as evidence supporting this perspective. Overall, the conversation emphasizes the importance of accurate data and critical thinking in understanding the impact of the pandemic and related public health measures.

    • The Issue of Cherry-Picking Scientific InformationCherry-picking scientific information to support preconceived beliefs can lead to a 'phony world' where important data is overlooked or misrepresented. It's crucial to approach scientific information critically and ensure we're not being misled by sensational claims or missing essential data.

There's a significant issue with people cherry-picking scientific information to support their preconceived beliefs, even if the data beneath the surface is questionable or missing. This phenomenon, referred to as the "phony world," is prevalent in various fields, including science. People often cite studies based on their titles or abstracts without delving deeper, creating a demand for "laugh lines" or sensational findings. The speaker argues that excess mortality data, which simply measures the number of deaths during a given timeframe and compares it to historical data, is a simpler and more straightforward approach to understanding the impact of COVID-19. However, the burden of proof has been reversed in many debates, with those advocating for more careful analysis being accused of being dismissive or negligent. Additionally, important documents, such as Pfizer's agreement with Israel, have gone missing, further complicating the situation. Ultimately, it's crucial to approach scientific information with a critical eye, ensuring that we're not overlooking essential data or being misled by sensational claims.

    • White House summit on STEM equity and inclusionStrive for inclusivity, but maintain individual responsibility and meritocracy. Equal opportunities, not equal capabilities, are the goal.

The virtual universe has endless possibilities for hiding documents, with potentially hundreds or even more cubbies in various virtual universes. Another notable event this week was the White House summit on STEM equity and inclusion. While the idea of creating an inclusive learning environment is valuable, the concept of every person being responsible for the success of every other person on campus could be detrimental. This concept, if taken to the extreme, could weaken meritocracy and individual responsibility. It's important to strike a balance between inclusivity and individual achievement. Additionally, the idea that everyone should graduate with equal capability is unrealistic and could lead to sabotage or lowering standards. Instead, efforts should focus on providing equal opportunities for all students to succeed.

    • Equalizing education standards isn't desirableAttempting to make everyone graduate at the same level decreases overall standards and lacks inspiration for students. Instead, institutions should aim for inclusivity and provide opportunities for students to reach their full potential.

Attempting to make everyone graduate at the same level in education leads to a decrease in overall standards and a lack of inspiration and learning for students. This approach, which some might label as "cognitive communism," is not achievable or desirable as it doesn't provide the necessary environment for students to grow and learn, especially those with high potential who haven't been well-served by their previous experiences. Instead, institutions should aim to be inclusive and provide opportunities for students with potential, regardless of their backgrounds, to reach their full potential. This approach not only benefits individual students but also contributes to a stronger and more diverse educational community.

    • Exploring diverse areas of knowledgeInstead of focusing solely on controversies, broaden your knowledge by exploring diverse areas of life and science, which can lead to unexpected discoveries and advancements.

Instead of focusing solely on the negatives, such as the perceived issues with communism or the controversy surrounding COVID-19 vaccines, we should strive to increase everyone's capacity and knowledge in various areas. This can lead to better outcomes and new possibilities. For instance, in the realm of biology, there are ongoing debates and research questions that can pique our curiosity, like whether or not female snakes experience sexual pleasure. While these discussions might seem unrelated to pressing issues, they can provide valuable insights and broaden our understanding of the world. It's essential to remember that the diversity of life and knowledge is vast, and exploring different areas can lead to unexpected discoveries and advancements. So, let's keep an open mind and continue learning, whether it's about the intricacies of snake phylogeny or the latest developments in public health.

    • New Research on Female Snake and Lizard Reproductive OrgansRecent study reveals functional significance of female snake and lizard hemichlitteries, challenging assumptions of underdeveloped or non-existent structures

Recent research challenges the long-held belief that the reproductive organs of female snakes and lizards, known as hemipenes, are underdeveloped versions of those in males. Instead, these structures, called hemichlitteries, have been found to have functional significance in mating. This discovery, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, was made through careful histological analysis of female death adders, revealing erectile tissue, nerves, and no spines, unlike male hemipenes. This finding challenges previous assumptions that these structures were insignificant or non-existent in females. The researchers suggest that the overlooked nature of female genitalia in herpetology has limited our understanding of sexual reproduction across vertebrate lineages. This discovery adds to the diversity of reproductive structures found in squamates, further highlighting the importance of rigorous scientific inquiry and challenging long-held assumptions.

    • Challenging assumptions about female and male genitalia in death addersNew research reveals that female and male death adder genitalia are not just simplified versions of each other, but have distinct structures relevant to sexual selection and internal fertilization.

Recent research on the genitalia of female death adders and male death adders challenges the assumption that female genitalia are just simpler versions of male genitalia. Although they share some similarities due to their homologous nature, they are not just half-assed versions of each other. This discovery is significant because it adds to our understanding of sexual selection and the rapid evolution of genitalia in amniotes with internal fertilization. The structures of these genitalia are relevant to sexual selection, and the conditions under which internal fertilization evolves, along with the types of birth, are fascinating areas for further exploration. Snakes provide an excellent system for studying the diversity of internal fertilization and the associated reproductive structures. The presence of erectile bodies with blood cells and abundant nerve bundles in female snake genitalia suggests that they may provide sensory feedback to the females, challenging the assumption that they only exist to please males. This research underscores the importance of studying female sexuality and the complexity of reproductive structures in all organisms.

    • Unexpected circumstances can lead to enjoyable experiencesBelieve in the power of unexpected opportunities, they might lead to delightful experiences

Individuals, even snakes, may hold the belief that they are the best partner their mate has ever had. During a recent conversation, this notion was discussed, leaving the female labrador visibly uncomfortable. I'd like to share a personal anecdote that occurred shortly after our last livestream. Upon arriving in Florida for a conference, I found myself in a less-than-ideal car rental situation. The available options ranged from unimpressive to questionable. However, I was surprised to find a convertible Mustang in the mix. Despite my initial hesitation, I decided to take it, reasoning that I didn't want to come into contact with the other less desirable vehicles. The car had a minor issue with the rear windows not closing fully, but it was otherwise fine. I ended up driving Jay Bhattacharya in the Mustang to his hotel, and he was thrilled with the experience. This incident serves as a reminder that sometimes, unexpected circumstances can lead to enjoyable experiences, even if they don't align with our initial plans or expectations.

In this 224th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss animal behavior: the implications of an orangutan using a medicinal plant to treat a wound, and the one-off videos that we’ve all seen—of cats preventing toddlers from falling, of a beluga whale retrieving a woman’s phone. What does this say about the minds of these other organisms, and about us? Also: dog domestication, from wolves, but not from foxes. And: the New York Times publishes more insipid garbage about vaccine injury, Bret returns to the question of what safety means, and The Nation turns its back on its muckraking roots.

Never Alone: The 223rd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 223rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss science and religion, materialism and other ways of understanding our world. Can analysis and quantification explain everything? Can narrative, intuition, and creativity? All are or should be part of the scientific process; science is incomplete with only one mode. We also discuss models, how they fail, how difficult they are to assess, and what one recent climate model has to say about the role of air pollution in Earth’s temperature. Enlightenment values require that we use our freedom to inquire about all things that we are curious about. Also: happy Beltane!

Why Darwin was Right: The 222nd Evolutionary Lens with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying

In this 222nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we talk about the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss evolution, and how we know that it is true. We discuss the different kinds of beliefs that people have—beliefs that attempt to reconcile with reality, vs beliefs that reconcile with social standing and comfort. If your beliefs put you on the outs with your friends, do you change your beliefs, or your friends? Are you willing to give up the cocktail party for reality? We also discuss research published in 2000 and funded by Fauci’s NIAID, which demonstrated that it was possible to make chimeric coronaviruses, swapping the spike protein from one to a different species entirely. Finally: sex-biased gene expression, in which genes are expressed differently in the two sexes, in anatomical systems as varied as brain, kidneys, and liver.

#90: Weave Well Enough Alone (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 90th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

In this episode, we discuss our essay, “On Driving SARS-CoV2 Extinct: Why We Need a Multi-Pronged Approach.” We discuss some of the misinformation that is circulating about…all of this. We then discuss sex and gender: beginning with an excerpt from chapter 7 of A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century—Sex and Gender—we discuss the division of labor, the effect of agriculture on gender roles, what sex and gender are, and whether it’s manly to weave. Finally, we discuss a few current events that are pertinent: the eradication of “male” and “female” from medical school curricula; the welcoming of transwomen to compete as and against women in the Olympics; and a short excerpt from Helen Joyce’s new book, Trans. No, we’re not transphobic, but we do see transactivism as a destructive force that is good for nearly nobody—including those rare people who are truly trans.

The Omicron variant is fueling record-breaking cases across the world and disrupting life. But it may not present as great a danger of hospitalization and severe illness as earlier variants. We explore why this is and what it means for the next stage of the pandemic.

Ep. 765 - A Three Point Plan To Defeat COVID And Live Forever

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, as mask mandates return and talk of lockdowns picks up, it is clear that no amount of COVID risk is acceptable. With that in mind, I have come up with a three phase plan to eliminate the COVID risk and ensure that all of us can live safely and happily forever. I will share that with you today. Also we have our Five Headlines, including the journalist who had her own proposal: porn for kids. Yes, really. Plus, Facebook gets ready to unveil glasses that will record everything we do. And a restaurant owner calls Chris Cuomo to task live on air. We’ll play the heartwarming clip. In our Daily Cancellation, we’ll deal with Chris Hayes from MSNBC, who made an argument for masking while vaccinated that is truly breathtaking in its stupidity.
