Start Small and Simple... DO THE WORK - Day 419

    enSeptember 21, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Break down daunting tasks into smaller stepsFocus on the first step to overcome the overwhelming feeling of a big task, then gradually move forward.

When facing a daunting task, whether it's in business, life, or a project, it's essential not to get overwhelmed by the complexity of the whole endeavor. Instead, break it down into smaller, manageable steps and focus on completing the first one. Eric Olson, in his experience with design projects and starting Permaculture Artisans, emphasized this approach. He admitted that he didn't know how to do it all when starting, but by focusing on the smallest steps and gradually moving forward, he was able to figure it out. The mistake we often make is thinking we have to have everything figured out from the start, but the reality is that we only need to take that first step and keep going.

    • Start small and keep things simpleBreak down complex projects into manageable tasks and focus on the basics to increase chances of success and reduce stress

When tackling complex projects, it's essential to start small and keep things simple, as advised by entrepreneur and designer Eric Olson. By breaking down tasks into manageable pieces and focusing on the basics, we increase our chances of success. This approach not only helps us get the job done effectively but also reduces stress and anxiety often associated with large projects. So, whether you're starting a new business or embarking on a personal goal, remember to take it one step at a time and keep things simple. Stay tuned for our upcoming podcast with Eric Olson for more insightful advice. In the meantime, be nice, be thankful, and do the work.

Next time you want to blame someone else for being ____ ask yourself - what did I do about it?  We are quick to blame others when we could have done more or done things differently.  It's often partially our own fault, more than we would like to admit. Admit it and be better.

Episode 12: Task Management (or 'Getting Shit Done')

In Episode 12 James and Alex discuss the issue of 'getting shit done' which often leads to procrastination. As usual the three parts are psychoeducation, personal reflections on how a lack of task management causes issues for us has affected us and Top Tips.  'What did James lose this week?" continues to Alex's annoyance and Alex gets more emails, some of them real.  James doesn't read the script (there is one) and Alex talks about sandwiching which apparently isn't a sex act.
