Happy Fourth of July! Well the FTC v Xbox case ended, and yeah, the FTC doesn't know what they are doing. The Sims could be the next game to go F2P, and Stray is finally coming to Xbox, and Ubisoft is remaking Black Flag just in time for Skull n Bones. Jon Favreau opens up about Din Djarin, Kevin Bacon heads back to TV and Netflix seems to be getting HBOs best hits? All hail the rise of Barbenheimer, Indy makes a small whip in the box office, and stop asking Russel Crowe about Gladiator 2. Plus we have a spoiler filled review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Indiana Jones Ranked: 1.Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 2.Raiders of the Lost Ark 3.Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny 4.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 5.Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

No AI Samuel L. Jackson. period.

No AI Samuel L. Jackson. period.

You're in for a wild ride as we dish out the latest, greatest, and geekiest news from the entertainment landscape. I recount my whimsical adventures in Smallville,

Amidst DC Comics' casting shakeup, we welcome David Corensweat and Rachel Brosnahan as the new Clark Kent and Lois Lane in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy movie and marvel at Marvel's Secret Invasion starring  Samuel L Jackson and Olivia Coleman.

As we navigate the twisted labyrinth of Hollywood, we delve into the darker corners, shedding light on Jackson's support for the writer's strike and his intriguing perspectives on aging tech and AI. We mourn the untimely demise of two promising projects - the Spider-Man spinoff starring the enigmatic Bad Bunny, El Murato, and the Star Trek Prodigy series. Join us as we decipher the cryptic clues left by the creators, and celebrate the new composer charting the musical course for the Marvel anti-hero movie, Craven the Hunter.

In a galaxy far, far away, we uncover a seismic shift in the Star Wars MMO universe with Bioware passing the developmental baton to Broad Sword. We discuss what this could mean for the future of Star Wars The Old Republic and the players who've invested their time and emotions into the game. We also consider the impact of the recent auction of Carrie Fisher's iconic dress and the decision by SAG Aftra and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to extend their contract for a few additonal days. Lastly, we journey into the cybernetic world of Tron Aries, featuring Evan Peters and discuss the striking changes in the Dune spin-off series. Plus we remember Alan Arkin.  So, strap in as we set sails on a whirlwind journey through the multiverse!

So I Married An Axe Murderer feat. Maggie Serota

So I Married An Axe Murderer feat. Maggie Serota

Writer Maggie Serota joins to discuss the 1993 comedy 'So I Married An Axe Murderer', a movie that takes inspiration from classic screwball comedies, Hitchcock thrillers, and SNL-style sketch comedy in equal measure.

We discuss the rise of the film's star, Mike Myers, a gifted comedic performer who dedicated much of his 90s output to an evolving pantheon characters, often involving elaborate makeup and outlandish vocal affectations. Then, we talk about the film's stunning bullpen of comedy veterans, including Alan Arkin, and the late Phil Hartman and Charles Grodin - all contributing hilarious riffs on their signature characters. Finally, we talk about Myers's career today by way of his most recent work, the dire Netflix series 'The Pentaverate' and why audiences might welcome a career pivot in the vein of other SNL alum Adam Sandler or Bill Hader.

    Havana & Dick Tracy

    Havana & Dick Tracy
After a two month hiatus, Overlapping Dialogue makes its triumphant return with our 71st edition, kicking off a 10 episode look at one of the most widely beloved periods in contemporary film history: the 1990s! But before we travel back in time to the era of Beanie Babies and horrific homegrown domestic terrorism, we sort through a Blue Plate Special gauntlet tacking a slew of new releases in Cocaine Bear, 65, Renfield, and the much anticipated Beau is Afraid. And don't worry, we even find some time to return to our semi-recurring segment on the Airport franchise of the 70s, this time with Airport '77. Upon sorting through wreckage literal and figurative, we finally arrive at this episode's subject features, both from 1990: Havana and Dick Tracy. Listen as we discuss the handsome yet unimaginative direction of Sydney Pollack, the cartoonish insanity that inherently comes along with adapting Chester Gould for the big screen, and the larger connection both films share of aging movie stars going about their fading relevance in decidedly different ways. Nida Manzoor on 'Slums of Beverly Hills'

Balancing the dark and the light sides of coming of age, womanhood, and navigating the social order is something filmmaker Nida Manzoor always strives for in her projects (like WE ARE LADY PARTS and POLITE SOCIETY, in theaters now). And she wants to shout one of her biggest inspirations from the rooftops: SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (1998, Tamara Jenkins), which centers on high-schooler Vivian Abromowitz, as played by a young Natasha Lyonne.

YNFA 023: So I Married an Axe Murderer, or Invasion of the Bonny Slasher

Snap those fingers and blow out that candle, man, as we immerse ourselves in Mike Myers’s personal mythology in Tommy Schlamme’s So I Married an Axe Murderer. Is this movie basically a Rosetta Stone for all of Myers’s future films? How does a beat poet afford an incredible apartment in San Francisco—unless he’s actually the one who is a black widow killer? Are the comedy cameos in this, from Charles Brolin to Steven Wright, the best of all time? Or do the incessant “bits” that it spawned ruin the fun? The only thing we can say is: Let’s get pissed!
