Explore Cognac starting at No.3 The Château for wedded bliss!

No 3 The Château is a stunning venue in the Cognac region which hosts many weddings through the warmer months each year, as well as other "experiences", but it has not always been that way.

After developing various properties in the UK, interior designer Julie Berry (aka Jules) decided to take up a challenge of renovating a château in France. She settled on the Cognac area and started a search which resulted in the wonderful find of the château she calls home today. No 3 The Château is surrounded on all sides with miles of cognac vines, and walking distance to the village complete with boulangerie. Even though it was in a state of disrepair, Jules could sense the potential and could see the light-filled rooms with huge windows being a beautiful place to both retreat and be calm, as well as come together and celebrate.

A recommendation from Jules which I will definitely use in the future, is the program Explore Cognac. This website highlights a number of experiences that tourists can uncover in the Cognac region. There are activities such as jewelry making, bike riding, barrel making, just loads of ways to discover all there is to do in Cognac. No 3 The Chateau has 2 experiences on the site, one for bread making in their old bread oven and another to host a dinner for 12 in the château dining room with a Michelin Starred chef!

No 3 The Château is a highlighted château on the Château Bee website and is booked out for a couple of years in advance! So if you're considering planning a wedding in France, get cracking! Booking a long way in advance is going to be a must!

    French Wine 101

    French Wine 101

When you walk into a wine shop do you walk towards the French wine section or away from it?

A friend told me recently that they walk away from the French wine section which I think is crazy because I tend to head right towards it! For starters, it was the French region of Burgundy which made me fall in love with wine to begin with!

I think that French wines are absolutely incredible! They are known as the benchmark of wine excellence with other winemakers in the world who will compare their wines to French wines. (Ever heard of a “Burgundian” style Pinot or a “Bordeaux” style blend?)

And yes French wines can be expensive, but they also have some amazing budget friendly wines!

So, I’m introducing you to the amazing world of French wines. I could talk about the wines of France for hours so today will be a basic introduction to French Wine. This is meant to instill the confidence you need to visit your nearest wine shop and pick up a bottle to try.

In this episode I’m diving into 5 of the most popular regions of French wines, how to read the label on the bottle so you can understand what to expect in that bottle of wine and in general making French wines less intimidating and more accessible to you.

So, if you have asked yourself where do I start with French wines this episode is for you. Grab a glass and let’s learn together!

And don’t forget to head over to https://www.corkandfizz.com/ and scroll all the way to the bottom to join my mailing list where you will then receive my 15 wines for under $15 Guide!

    Episode Highlights:

    • An introduction to French wine

    • List of the 11 major wine regions of France

WTF is Pouilly-Fumé? (Fancy wine vs. Barefoot wine, Sauvignon Blanc from Loire, Wines named for regions rather than the grapes)

WTF is Pouilly-Fumé? (Fancy wine vs. Barefoot wine, Sauvignon Blanc from Loire, Wines named for regions rather than the grapes)

So, if you didn’t know, Pouilly-Fumé is Sauvignon Blanc, but from a specific area of France in the Loire Valley. Like a lot of European wines, the names can be confusing because they are named after the place they are from, not the grape they are made from. But the real question is - can you tell the difference between a Sauvignon Blanc from Pouilly-Fumé, which is going to be a little pricey, from a much less expensive Sauvignon Blanc? If you are curious about all of this stuff, this is the episode for you! We talk about what makes Sauv Blanc from Pouilly-Fumé special, and then we taste and review two wines from Pouilly-Fumé and compare them to Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc. The results may surprise you! Wines reviewed in this episode: 2021 Domaine Francis Blanchet Pouilly Fumé Cuvée Silice, 2020 Domaine Cailbourdin Pouilly-Fumé Les Cris, and Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc.

Holiday Sparkling Wines #1: Crémant! (Amazing French sparkling wine, great reasonably priced Champagne alternative, demystifying sparkling wine)

Of course the Holidays are the season for sparkling wine, but are you looking for something different, delicious, and reasonably priced that is a worthy alternative to Champagne?!? Then we’ve got you covered! Crémant is a French sparkling wine made in the Champagne style and with Champagne quality but often at a fraction of the price! If you are throwing a Holiday party or bringing a gift to your host, you cannot go wrong with Crémant. There are many different styles of Crémant based on the region they come from and the grapes that are used, which makes them also exciting and fun to try. In this episode we try Crémant from 3 different regions of France, each of which is in a different style and varied in taste, and we talk about what makes Crémant great. We will say, too, that all of these wines are great, but one of them knocked our socks fully off! The other thing is these wines are really not hard to find, you just need to seek them out - and trust us, it is worth it. Wines reviewed in this episode: Andre Delorme Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs Brut Reserve, Joseph Cattin Crémant d'Alsace Brut, and 2019 Calvet Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé.
