    Divorce In Midlife | Facing Your Fear And Putting Your Future First | Lindsay De Swart

    Last year my friend Lindsay de Swart and I sat down for a Fireside Chat episode where we took a look forward into where we might be in a year. Lindsay never would have realistically guessed what her year might look like. She took a deep dive into  her life, her marriage, and everything that was affected by those and turned her world upside down.

    When her family's future was at a fork in the road, she chose to take the road less traveled, but the one she knew she HAD to take.  She knew she needed to face her fear and set new boundaries while utilizing self-care to get her through it.

    I know that we will all be touched in some way by her story. Facing fear. Having to put ourselves first sometimes. Having to upset the apple cart of others and the guilt over that. Knowing and accepting that change needs to happen. Admitting that things aren't perfect and owning that.  Beating back all the judgement and guilt  from herself and others and then and relying outside help to get her through when she couldnl't do it herself.

    I think when we face all of these things, we find out who we truly are and what we are truly capable of. My friend Lindsay is one of the strongest women that I know. I guarantee all of you are the second strongest women that I know. As  Glennon Doyle says, We Can Do Hard Things, especially when we know that we will be lost if we don’t.

    If you find also find yourself in a place where big change needs to happen before you are lost, know that change and making big pivots takes time and sacrifice. But it’s important to make that investment. I may not know you personally, but I know you. You are worth it and you deserve it.

    Workout Motivation When Away From Home | 4 Ways To Get Some Movement In While Traveling

    There is nothing worse than building a healthy workout habit and starting to see results when travel happens or the holidays come. We worry about not having the opportunity to get our workouts in or about what will happen if we take a couple of days off. 

    First of all - you totally have permission to take a couple of days away from your workout routine to spend time with family. Your fitness will not suffer. But if you will be away for longer and or just want some ideas to get some movement in while traveling, I've got them for you today.

    It may take a little research, planning, and preparation on your part, but it is totally doable and could even be different and fun, especially if you can get the whole family involved.

    Tracking your food in a nutrition tracker or food journal is really the very first step in putting your health in good view. Taking care of your health really does start with your relationship with food, or the kitchen as I say. And when you are armed with all of your individual nutrition facts, you are able to define or redefine that relationship.

    Is your goal midlife weight loss? Do you just want to get a handle on what your numbers actually are? Then keeping this information is going to be so key for you.

    As always, if you have a serious concern, please consult a nutritionist or your physician, but I have some general rules of thumb when starting here. This is your starting place to get serious on the health goals that you may have for today, for the rest of this year, for 2023, or for the rest of your life.

You've worked hard to stay on top of your workout plan all week and look forward to perhaps a longer workout on the weekend or time to go somewhere new to workout, but Saturday or Sunday morning rolls around and you procrastinate to the point to not being able to do what you've looked so forward to.

    Need Posture Correction? | How To Begin Righting Those Office Chair Wrongs With Massage Therapist Mike Purvis

    Mike Purvis has been working on some of my back and hamstring issues for years. You would think that these issues would have come from some of the sports that I'm involved in, but NO - both have to do with my posture when I'm sitting at my desk or while I'm driving.

    I read an article recently about how desk chairs are doing immeasurable damage to all us that sit in them all day, at least 5 days a week. When I went to see Mike about some of these issues and asked him to talk to us about it on the podcast, he agreed.

    Today's Takeaways:
    1. Finding a good massage therapist depends on what you need a massage for. Each has a specialty. It’s like finding a doctor. You don’t want to go to a therapist that specializes in 20 different kinds of massage, that’s like going to a GP to have her deliver your baby.
    2. Everything that we are doing is in front of us - and we are in that forward position for hours on end. We need to think about getting up every now and then to stretch backwards - to stretch that peck out - stretch that chest to help us not be caved forward where we end up walking like turtles.
    3. There is no better time than now to start making some little changes to your posture while sitting. Everything has to be accounted for - upper body and lower body.
    4. Even though you may be working at home and not at a “desk” per se, it’s not really about the surface you are working on, it’s about the height of the chair and the angle of your arms so that you’re not driving your shoulders into your ears.
    5. Get a good desk chair to start with. If you get up out of your chair and can see that your body is still sitting there, it’s probably time for a new one.
    6. You more than likely sit at your desk more than you sleep, but we’ll all invest in a good mattress before investing in a good desk chair. 
    7. Do not cross your legs when sitting. It causes one hip to be elevated which can cause a leg discrepancy. Leg discrepancies are problem in your basement, in your foundation, that affects all the floors of your body.
    8. We all need to do a posture analysis. Do you drive leaned to the right? Do you carry a heavy bag on one shoulder every day?
    9. The best stretches to do in your desk chair are Ts and Ys. Make a T with your arms then make a Y with your arms.
    10. Put something up under your feet at the desk. Change your foot position. That changes your hip angle during the day. It lets your hamstrings and calves open up.
    11. Using an external monitor instead of looking down at your laptop screen can help your neck and the phenomenon of “phone neck”.
    12. We (as in our bodies) are the only machines that we ignore the check engine lights every single day. Taking care of yourself doesn’t take hours - it’s where can you
