Ep 203 Jeri and Irina: The Non-Expendable Dependables (Don't Tell Sly)

Our podcast guests today are Jeri Robinson Lawrence and daughter Irina Lawrence Mathias.Ā  This hardworking mother/daughter team has contributed a few soundbites in between Points A, B, C and X in the rush of the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival every year, but as theyā€™re the ones that everyone needs something from at all times, a relaxed moment has been hard to come by with these two.

So we went to the mountain (so to speak, although itā€™s southern Pennsylvania just west of the Susquehanna River, so there were a few hills in there).Ā  They have plenty of things available on their website for anyone who might want some delicious shades, colors, and types of fiber, but the physical location of the farm and shop known as Flying Fibers is a place for the senses. Ā

Sheep (mostly Shetlands, with a few Leicester and Wensleydale in the mix), chickens, dogs, cats, toddlers, and what seems like every other creature in Noahā€™s Ark are napping, creating, munching, gamboling or just sitting picturesquely on this little homestead, with green pastures surrounded by waving wheat and banks of bee-covered lavender.Ā  We donā€™t know how they trained all the critters to perform so beautifully for the cameras (but not the husband, Iā€™m afraid ā€“ he ran when we pushed ā€œrecordā€), but the visuals were absolutely lovely.Ā  The scents were fantastic too -- lavender AND lanolin included.

Our Shetland mascot, Jane, could not have a better home with better people.Ā  And the world is a better place because of pretty much everything connected with this little spot of heaven.

9 Herbal Remedies For Sunburned Skin

In today's episode of The Herbalist's Path, I explore natural remedies for sunburns. Discover how melanin protects our DNA but isn't foolproof against prolonged UV exposure. I discuss Good Day Sunshine, a herbal sunscreen with Calendula and St. John's Wort. While prevention is key, I also highlight powerful herbal remedies for soothing and healing sunburns.

Vulnerary herbs are perfect for healing wounds, and mucilaginous herbs like aloe vera, which offer cooling and soothing effects can work wonders and provide much needed relief to sunburned skin. Other herbs like calendula, lavender, comfrey, plantain, and marshmallow root are also noted for their remarkable healing properties. Although I stress on prevention throughout the episode, I also highlight the incredible power of herbs to heal sunburns.

How to Apply Personality Science to Sales with William Ballance

How to Apply Personality Science to Sales with William Ballance

This episode of the Live Better Sell Better Podcast features William Ballance, CEO at Lavender. The Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) divides people into four quadrants: Action, Vision, People, and Data. Each quadrant represents a different aspect of decision-making.

You can structure your messaging to target all four quadrants or use personality assessments like DISC or OCEAN to determine an individual's decision-making pattern. Depending on an individual's personality, they may focus on different quadrants, which can lead to different decision-making patterns, and therefore a different messaging.

    HIGHLIGHT QUOTES

Appeal your messaging to a prospectā€™s personality type - William: "If you're going after someone who's action-oriented, you want to drive them into that decision and remove any sort of friction in that decision. For someone who is more vision-oriented, they are the big-picture thinkers, theyā€™re very high on openness. You want to inspire them in that decision-making. You can see this a lot with Nike commercials, Just do it. Like you look at those commercials and you're like, I can do anything."

    Ah-Has

ā€œThere's so much that needs to be done, so much change that needs to happen. How will we ever do it? And then I step back and it's like, one Nurse at a time, one situation at a time, one ripple will start making that change. And then it doesn't seem so overwhelming, I think.ā€ ~Karen Day, MSN, RN, NC-BC

    • Our younger Nurses are training younger Nurses as preceptors, teachers, and mentors.Ā  Many of them donā€™t have lots of experience.Ā  How can we support them with more grace, acceptance and resources
    • Nursing needs to create a culture shift to truly support each other without judgement.Ā  We can do this by honoring our past, learning from it, acknowledging it and shifting towards more self-care, resources, and each other
    • The pressure of perfection does not always support us and can be a pathway to burnout, and Nurses leaving the profession
    • Creating sacred spaces, where anything goes, where anything can be said, where it is safe to share and discuss.Ā  This is different than a route cause analysis, or a clinical debrief, howeverā€¦ there is potential to create a sacred space in those areas too!
    • Acknowledge the strengths in each other.Ā  Acknowledge that you see another Nurse struggling, and ask them how you can help

Season 5 Episode 11: Go To Sleep

In this week's episode Lance and Jacklyn teach listeners about chronotypes.Ā  What it is and how to determine your chronotype so that you can get the best sleep of your life. Ā

A through line in our episodes is learning more about what makes you you and how to thrive by living a life that caters to your specific strengths and tendencies.

According to the sleepdoctor.com, chronotype dictates our bodyā€™s natural tendency to fall asleep and wake up at a certain time of day. Our biological clock is influenced by the presence of bright light and more specifically, the production of melatonin. But not everybody falls asleep when the sun goes downā€”chronotypes are the explanation for some people tending to stay up till the sun rises and others nodding off on the couch before ever even making it to their bed.

Your chronotype comes from the length of your PER3 gene and is dependent on
    genetic, environmental, and age-related factors.
Your chronotype influences hormone levels, metabolic function, and body temperature, to name a few.

Each Chronotype will reveal exactly what you need to do to work with your body, not against it.
